So Mugsy,

That wasn't you I saw on the Prairie Path Saturday morning in the Richard Simmons jumpsuit? Come on, admit it. Your running form was pretty good though.

BTW, do you remember Dave Strubbe from IWU? He's become a pretty good long distance runner. I think his goal for the marathon is 2:40.

Please tell me you aren't going to "power walk" the marathon in your Richard Simmons suit and headband! :o :D

LOL.  What a scary image!

I don't plan on it... though the furthest I've run in my training to this point is 17 miles and I was significantly wiped-out.  I may need to revisit my goals and switch from finishing in 3 hours and 45 minutes to making sure I don't lose control of my bowels (like some in the Iron Man triathlons and like many, many stories I've heard about 1st trip marathoners).   :o

While I was on the Prairie Path both Saturday and Sunday morning, nothing I wore would come close to a "jumpsuit".   :P  I was discernible by my Wheaton football shorts from 1988 and white running shirt stained with blood from bleeding nipples. How fun!  On my long runs on Sunday, I'm still trying to figure out how to best avoid severe chaffing from shirts.  It probably won't be as big an issue when the humidity finally falls below 80% (which leads to excessive sweating for old farts).

I do remember Dave Strubbe.  2:40?  That's cooking.  Very nice.  If I survive my 1st marathon, who knows... maybe I'll run another down the road and aim for more respectable times.  My time on Sunday for the 17 mile run would translate to a 3:28ish marathon time, but I really don't think I can keep that pace for another 9 miles.

Bleeding nipples is another hazard I would have never thought of that my marathon-running friend talked about.  He said athletic tape or bandaids over the nipples did the trick.

I've tried bandaids, but they only stay on for the first 4-5 miles.  I'll probably go with shaving the area and applying vaseline & athletic tape.

Just think next week when the D3Football preview comes out and we start getting reports on the various camps, there won't be time for this lovely discussion.   ;D

I'm going to leave work early sometime in the next week to check out a Wheaton practice.

Wow, this is sure a strange discussion for a football board.

I've had problems with bleeding nipples from time to time. Try NipGuards. They work for me. I'm assuming you also know about BodyGlide to prevent chafing.

I hope you're not running in cotton shirts. You could also run topless, just don't post any pictures.

My last post on the topic so I don't annoy everyone else (more than I normally do).  No, I don't use cotton shirts.  I use the synthetic, mesh shirts.  Generally they work great, except when it is 80+ degrees with 80%+ humidity.  The past 3 weeks have been brutal for running and have led to maximum sweating.  Even the shirts design specifically for long distance running get so staturated with sweat that chaffing is inevitable.  Like I said I don't think it will be nearly as severe come Oct. 7th.

I will check out NipGuards.  Thanks.

Somehow I knew you'd cut that comment out of context and make a joke of it.   ::)

Keep an eye out for the CCIW Pick-ems for 2007.

I will post an invitation for the upcoming season and the rules within the next week or so.  Unless someone else wants to be the "Commissioner" this year...

Just ordered my copy of this year's Kickoff.  If any of you are on the fence about the purchase, I definitely think it is worth it.  However, I was a little disappointed about the name that will be displayed on my credit card statement.  However, it did remind me of ringing a bell.

For those on the fence about the Pick Ems' I would encourage you to join in the fun.  Heck, you don't even need to have seen a CCIW football game for like 30 years to participate, right Ypsi?

showtime:

all those interested in picking the CCIW order of finish may begin doing so now. I will keep this list and post it on the pickem's page prior to kickoff on Sept 1. in order to enter you need to give each of the 8 teams in order of finish AND their overall record (based on 10 game sched).

I will keep track and you have until end of day Friday August 31 to post your predictions. we will revisit them as the conference race unfolds.

Good luck.

30?!  Barring something unforeseen, by November it will be 38!

And, if I recall correctly, I still beat a few pickers. ;D
