Thanks NCC__alum62. Funny you should mention all the penalties in the final game last year between Carthage and NCC. In a conversation I had with Coach Rucks during the off season he told me he had heard that the officiating crew from that game had been given their walking papers by the CCIW. The story goes, that day there were several officials in the stands watching the game. They thought they game was so poorly called that they reported it to their office. The crew was brought in and told they would never again officiate a CCIW game. I'm sure there is more to it than that, but found it interesting as we Carthage fans did feel the officiating was awful....go figure.

TG,

I would agree that that officiating crew was brutal.  The only call they got right was the late hit by Fox late in the game!   ;) ;D  The CCIW commissioner was on the sidelines and I'm sure got to see how bad this crew was.  CCIW officiating is so inconsistent(especially in Decatur and Rock Island!).  I hope that it gets to the point where these guys aren't the difference in games.

Ralph Turner

I can see the front page headlines from D3football.com in 2043...

Fifty-nine year-old Geoff Burns has made the Wheaton Thunder football team.  When asked about his decision to seek his last year of eligilbilty, Mr. Burns said, "I really regret letting my teammates down that year.  We were going to win the CCIW and then contend for the North Region title and knock off Mount Union.  My leaving the team really disrupted the chemistry of the team.  I have missed that last year of football so much."

I can picture him walking into Coach Swider's office now.....

"Coach, I'm not going to play football anymore"  Hmmmm..... Is it?:

A.  I'm not having fun anymore. :'(
B.  I can't afford school if I don't work. :-[
C.  I'm not doing all this work to sit on the bench again. :(
D.  I'm getting paid to do these smoking love scenes with this totally hot babe for A & F!!!  8)  ;D ;D ;D

Gee, I don't know how I didn't get considered?  ::) :D

From what I understand, Burns was kicked out of school and it wasnt his decision to leave the team.  With the code of conduct at Wheaton however, ultimately, he made the decision that cost him his eligibility.

The reason he didnt get much tick last year was because he was behind a captain and all-american in Ittersagen.

It is a big blow to the secondary at Wheaton.

What if they just played Ittersagen at Safety and had 6 down lineman and 4 linebackers...  He could probably cover the two deep halves and flats, right??

Very interesting, Tailgater, that you take on one of your own.

Cardinaldad made a similar statement (rah rah for his team with no supporting info) and usee ripped into him.

This year wll be interesting because if you make some claim or boast about any team, you better be able to back with actual on the field performance. This season should be interesting and the quality of posts on this board should be higher than ever.

Red Men running game will be fine.

Carthage Fan, I'm curious to know (for conversation sake) why you feel the Red Men running game will be fine or was this just an optimistic comment?:) Over the past 6-7 years we have been spoiled with the likes of All-Americans Randall Baker and Dante Washington at RB. Last year the all senior O-line had 3 All-CCIW players of which Ryan Glassman was also an All-American Tackle. This experience will be hard to replace immediately. It took 3 seasons for this group to gel. We start this season with very little experience at all these positions...so what are your thoughts?

I'm not sure Tailgater was "taking on one of his own".  The tone of the post seemed more of a simply inquiry to understand why Carthage Fan seemed to have a different conclusion.

Not in the same tone as some of the NCC vs. NCC or Augie vs. Augie posts of last year - that were down right heated.

How ironic that A&F market the whole ad as "the new face of A&F", yet faces are featured in about 1.7 seconds of the 51 second ad.  ::)

Been watching the Augustana practices.  With new coaches was hoping to see something different, but appears to be same old, same old.  HEY CCIW - Augie is going to be running options!!
Hopefully, Augie will sqeek in under the new TRI-CHAMPION standings that was instituted last year.  Apparently, CCIW has created a "feel good" atmoshere so that no coaches have a hissy fit.  Would not want Coach Barnes to actually have to recruit using his REAL record.
Oh well, look for Augie to run, NC to pass, Carthage to play dirty, Milliken to get beat up, Wheaton to act like the CUBS, Elmhurst to be a no show, Ill Wesleyan to be the patsy team.  Isn't there one more that seems to elude me.

Can you explain the comment "Carthage to play dirty"

Yes, this comment simply points out what has been known around the conference for years.  Especially, when Carthage is at home and losing.  Of course Ill Wesleyan is coming to be known for their dirty play the last few years also!

I can recall a play when an Augie defender jumped offsides and CHOKE-SLAMMED a QB to the ground.  That sounds pretty dirty to me.

Fellow Card fans:

Enough with the Usee stuff, it's old!  Usee is one of the best informed, knowledgable posters on here(What am I saying?? :o)  Differences of opinion are a part of the enjoyment, unless it's a disagreement with my opinion!!  The start of the season is just about here, but in the mean time who has more A & F videos?  You can leave out the Burns guy!! 8)

Tailgater, I am an eternal optimist!   ;)

Carthage Rushing by Year Stats (CCIW Website)...
2000 and Earlier - Only Individual stats, no Team.
2001 - 200.5 YPG (All Games, no CCIW Games listed)
2002 - 219.0 YPG (CCIW Games, no Total for year)
2003 - 207.6 & 235.4 (CCIW & All Games)
2004 - 179.3 & 188.5 YPG (CCIW & All Games, Total of 13 Games, 3 Against Playoff Teams)
2005 - 182.3 & 173.0 YPG (CCIW & All Games)
2006 - 153.6 & 131.8 YPG (CCIW & All Games)

I agree with Tailgater on this one.  Let's not forget Kevin Burris in this category (4 Year All-Conference player if I am not mistaken).  Carthage used to be able and line up with teams knowing they were the play was going and they still would have success.  Now with what I am hearing from Carthage faithful is correct switching to the spread offense this will only lower their rushing totals.  And for a team whose strength is their defense, passing all day and not eating up the clock will only make this defense uneffective.  I mean look at Augie's defense the last few years because of how much their offense has been able to eat up the clock and pound it down people's throats their defense has shined.

Thoughts and prayers go out to C.J. Finn, tough break for a great kid.

It's official.  The season has just started.  Sure has been awhile since CardinalAlum has lobbed a mocking comment my way.  I was beginning to wonder what was wrong with you, but then I reminded myself we always wonder about that. :P
