I didn't mean anything negative, especially towards usee. I have a lot of respect for his knowledge on D3 football and the CCIW in particular.

Is it any fun though if the Wheaties and supporters of that Naperville school can't go back and forth just a little?

Cardinaldad made a similar statement (rah rah for his team with no supporting info) and usee ripped into him.

Fellow Card fans:

Enough with the Usee stuff, it's old!  Usee is one of the best informed, knowledgable posters on here(What am I saying?? :o)  Differences of opinion are a part of the enjoyment, unless it's a disagreement with my opinion!!

CardAlum,

This post brought a tear to my eye. Thanks.

Absolutely no fun at all...

Geoff Burns is a little, uh, otherwise occupied these days. I don't think you'll be seeing him in a Wheaton football uniform anytime soon. In fact, I don't think that you'll be seeing him in much of anything.

Wheaton's in a tizzy over this. It apparently made the front page of the student newspaper.

This may be one of the strangest stories involving CCIW football that I've ever heard.

Geoff Burns is definately the best looking corner in all of D3.

Umm... was.  And I don't think I want to be judge on who is the best looking corner... :P

I thought about leaving football to be a model, but I realized that nobody wants to see a Fat Guy with his shirt off!  Too bad for Abercrombie!!!!  :'(
HEY NORM, I LOST YOUR HAT! GO REDMEN!!!

redman04, I also could be a model if not for the whole physical appearance hang up. I am waiting for Bedweiser to call.

Several possible responses come to mind immediately:

(The inappropriate, mean attack on a fellow Wheaton alum)
Well, I don't think I do know ugly... I mean we haven't met in person yet...

(The playful shot at CardinalAlum and older NCC alum)
Well, I did play against the NCC option attack in the 80's... so yes, I do know ugly.

(The self-depreciating route)
Well, I had been struggling with bleeding nipples in my marathon training... so yes, I do know ugly.

Carthage's string of impressive running backs from the 60's and 70's ended with Jodat.  And while he had mightly impressive numbers a lot of long-time CCIW observers might say he wasn't the best.

Jimmy Payne - averaged over 10 yards per carry for an entire season in the early 60's for an undefeated CCI championship team.

Tommy Holt
Joe Sobczak
and the best of the bunch might have been Curt Whipple, who had consecutive 1000 yard seasons going into his junior year, when he tore up his knee at North Park in the first game of the 1972 season.

Carthage's teams from 1962-74 and Augustana's teams of the eighties were the most impressive run-oriented teams I've seen in CCIW football - which I've been watching since 1965.

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

11 participants signed up for the CCIW Pick-em's thus far... (12 if you count me, but I make my picks late in the week)

Remember, make your selections by noon ET on Saturday.  All are welcome.

Are we making our picks on the general CCIW board or is there going to be a separate pick em board like we have on the basketball site?

augiefan

Asked and answered. I found the separate pick em site.

burly

Hello everybody.

Regarding the discussion on how great Baker and Burris were and the comment, "The Option is like Novocain; just give it time and it works!" I need to make a few points.

Although both Baker and Burris very good division 3 football players, let's examine what they did when it counted the most:

Randal Baker, 2002 (4-6, 3-4 CCIW)

Vs. Wheaton (conference champs)
   96 yards on 26 carries (long 30)
   0 TDs
   36-6 loss

Vs. Augustana
   Stats aren't available – 34-28 loss

Vs. Wesleyan*
   112 yards on 34 carries (Long 14)
   2 TDs
   21-20 win

*Average 6-4 Wesleyan team with losses to Wheaton, Augie, Milikin and Carthage

Kevin Burris, 1999 (5-4, 4-3 in CCIW)

Vs. Augustana (conference champs)
   stats aren't available, 31-9 loss

Vs. Wheaton
   46 yards on 18 carries (long 21)
   0 TDs
   30-14 loss

Vs. Wesleyan
   stats aren't available, 44-27 loss

I admire your love for your players, but it's a lot of hype...

You guys are talking about the wrong guys.  No RB statistically speaking has done more for Carthage in the last 10 years (maybe ever?) then Dante Washington did in 2004.  Even with a shutout against Augie and a loss against Mount Union, only with the statistics below can you accurately covet your beloved RBs as you have in the previous posts.

RUSHING              GP-GS  Att Gain Loss  Net   Avg  TD Long Avg/G
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Washington, Dante    13-13  463 2094  104 1990   4.3  14   64 153.1

dansand

I'm not taking sides in what looks to be an interesting intra-Carthage debate, just providing some of the missing info:

1999 vs. Augie
Kevin Burris: 12 carries, 35 yards, 1 TD

2002 vs. Augie
Randall Baker: 21 carries, 55 yards, 0 TD

2004 vs. Augie (35-0, Augie)
Dante Washington: 23 carries, 107 yards, 0 TD
