Mr. Ypsi

+k to the detective who can first identify the new guy:

Is 'Smithfan'

a) Jake Smith
b) Jake Smith's roommate/girl friend/best buddy
c) Jake Smith's dad/mom/brother/other relative
d) a legitimate, enthusiastic new poster (in which case, my apologies and welcome to the board!) ;D

p.s., his(her?) email address is markleisen, if that rings a bell with anyone

Smithfan

None of the above.  Followed Jake through his high school career.  I met him and he is just a really good kid and I know he will do his job. He knows no other way.  He's a good one and you better keep your eye on him.

Where's the Augie vs B-W talk?  Isn't Augie still in the CCIW?

Interestingly, they ran a series out of the spread/shotgun, although I'm not sure they attempted any passes from it.

They did in fact attempt and get one completion out of this new fangled formation known as the shotgun!

where are the NCC scrimmage reports?

NCC did not have a scrimmage last Saturday.  There was originally supposed to be an intrasquad scrimmage, but it was canceled and a regular practice was held instead.  Not sure as to why.

iNT,

nteresting. thanks for the response. It was my understanding they were going to hold a scrimmage against somebody to prepare for their first game since last year they did not and Coach Thorne thought it hurt them in their opening loss to CUW. Was this incorrect?

Somethings wrong here because NCC scrimmaged Olivet Nazarene last weekend. ???

Tailgater;

Thanks for the analysis. I hope it's a good game. I think it might be a long game in time. Lakeland likes to throw and has 3 big receivers and I see Carthage uses the spread and likes to throe also. There is a big difference in the two conferences as the CCIW is a top 3 conference, IMO and the IBFC is a bottom feeder. If the past is any indication it should be a good game. With the Red Men at home, that is an advantage. Good Luck to the Red Men. No injuries as Lakeland can't handle anymore.

I think carthage is going to win this game pretty handily. Lakeland is adjusting to quite a bit of change and turnover while Carthage is coming off a season of incredible adversity. they have two of the better db's in the cciw back and a solid core of talented offenisve players. Coach Rucks has built a solid program and I see the Redmen pulling away in this one, especially in kenosha.

Do we have any confirmed attendees from said scrimmage?

If two teams scrimmaged in the woods and there was no one there to see it, did it really happen?

Olivet Nazarene played St. Norbert last weekend. Was it the weekend before?

Just a couple of observations, Billy Pilgrim does not like Kevin Burris for some reason. TrueAugiAlum does not like all or most of the Augie coaching staff. And we have another player posting who really should not be. I can't wait for Saturday

Incorrect.  I like the way Kevin Burris played.  Downhill, shoulders square, attacking the line of scrimmage - every yard counted for that kid.  However, I joined this board to bring substance to the conversations.  And, sometimes that means holding people accountable to weak, emotionally filled comments.

Which brings me back the original debate....

I've consolidated the 1st Team All CCIW running backs (and one 2nd Team) since 1999 in order to prove my point.

Here are the stats:

Year   Name   College   All-Conference Team   Games   Attempts   Yards   Avg.   TDs   Yds/G   Attempts   All Purpose   Avg.   W   L

An average of all 1st CCIW Selections from 1999-2006 proves that Kevin Burris was last in:

- Total Yards
- Yards per game
- Total All-purpose yards
- Average all-purpose yards per game (excluding Brian Pastermack)

Although many have argued that his team was weak, the average record (rounding up) was 4-3 in the CCIW over this time - interesting the same as Carthage in 1999.

According to Kevin's 1999 statistics he was:

-   264 total yards less per game vs. avg.
-   1 yard less per carry vs. avg.
-   Almost 40 yards less per game vs. avg.
-   336 yards less all-purpose yards per game vs. avg.
-   42 yards under the all-purpose yards per game avg. vs. avg.

A couple of disclaimers:
*2001 1st Team RB selection data not included - Deon Packer, David Chorney, Randal Baker due to unavailability of CCIW only games
*2006 Chadz Black statistics not included - played less than 7 games

Feel free to push back, but those are the facts.  If my calculations are wrong – that's my fault.  I welcome challenging debate...keep it coming.

This also doesn't include factors such as how tough you are which I'm begining to believe that some people on this board think should be included in CCIW All-Conference Team selection more than your on the field production.

burly

Two questions for discussion came out of this research:

1.  How far could have Nathan Wallick gone on a championship CCIW team?

2.  Why can't the Titans get a 1st Team All-Conference RB in the backfield?

I am sure that Jake Smith is a good back but the Lakeland team did see Justin Beaver from UWW, one of the top Senior running backs in D3. Justin put up over 120 yards on Lakeland, If Jake is that good he should put up more than that on Lakeland. I will wait till after the game to compare the two, since I have only seen one.

Perhaps the scrimmage took place behind the grassy knoll!
