I will be traveling the 2 hours or so to Albion from my house this week to see Wheaton play.  I will return the favor of the many who posted re: Wheaton v Wabash and try to give a decent summary of the action.

If any of you make the trip, I would love to meet you.  If you are making the trip, remember that Albion is in the eastern time zone.  I wouldn't want anyone showing up an hour late.

Matblake,

thanks, a full report would be most appreciated for us Thunder backers. ;)

And, you may want to post your report a few times so that usee will have no problem finding it.  ;D ;D ;D ::)

The truth hurts.

I'm laying low until after Saturday's game vs. Lakeland.  Appreciate all of your comments. Guess I'm just really enthusiastic to see the season begin.  I'm a CCIW newby but I like it!

By the way, Jake was in for a number of plays but only 11 rushing plays.  A junior transfer, Bures,  was the starter.  I'm just excited by the whole thing.  The whole atmosphere at Carthage is really great.  The parents club, of which I am NOT a part, has alot of spirit.

GO REDMEN!!

Nothing wrong with being excited about the season, the CCIW and the team you support.

At first Wabash was getting great pressure on Ullrich from their d-line, but as the game went on the Wheaton o-line looked better at pass protection.  That may be in part to Wabash having one of their better DT's getting ejected from the game.  Not sure what happened... it looked benign enough.  There wasn't any pushing or shoving, the ref just threw a flag for an unsportsman like right after the play and then tossed him.  ???

From what I have heard about this was, one of your (Wheaton) O-Line went all through last years scrimage trashing him (93-Gangloff), chopping at him, and he started right at him again this year, so 93 gave him a little extra at the end of the play so the official ejected him (No flag, No foul, No yardage) just ejection.  This is very much NOT like 93.
Looking for BIG things from this front 7 this year.
Good luck to Wheaton and maybe see you later... ;)

there was most certainly a flag and a 15 yd penalty. What you are describing is not something we have heard about before. No one has complained about any wheaton olineman to my knowledge. Either way "a little extra" is usually what the refs see.

I overheard a Wabash coach in the pressbox mention a Wheaton player was pressing his forearm to the throat of the Wabash player while he was on the ground in the pile (whether intentional or not) and the Wabash player took a swing in full view of the ref.  That'll get you tosses asap.  As usee mentioned, there was a 15 yard unsportsman like penalty and the ref indicated he was tossed.

Unfortunate and definitely not indicative of the type of play between Wabash & Wheaton in the past.

I am sorry; I got my information second hand on the ejection and penalty.  I haven't seen or talked to 93 since the start of camp.  And without any Box Scores from the Scrimmage, it was all I had to go on.  All I know is this is not the usual type of play from 93 or Wabash.  Please accept my humble apology.
Wabash ALWAYS Fights

There is a story in today's Naperville Sun about the NCC plan to use both quarterbacks (Fanthorpe, Kniss) this season and discusses their relative strengths. It also has a sentence or two on the players who didn't return and the reasons why (Knapczyk, Palmer). However, the Naperville Sun web site is as lacking in quality as its print version and the story is currently not available so it would be futile to include the link in this message.

No need to apologize and from my previous post, I agree that the play was contrary to how Wabash & Wheaton typically compete against each other.

Hi Smithfan
You don't have to be a parent of a Red Men player to be part of the CFPG. ALL are welcome to join the Carthage Football Parents Group and participate in the variety of activities. Your Carthage spirit & financial resources need to be included in our group. You can find registration forms at the merchandise table inside the stadium. Proceeds from membership registration are used to put on the year end football banguet which is a classy event done to the nines. Even if you don't join the CFPG you are more than welcome to join in the tailgate festivities prior to the games and join us cheering in the stands!

I want a victory by any margin against the school that is borrowing the Bell, plus a severe case of chafing for Mugsy from the marathon!   :P

I'm a little concerned that you have dreams (nightmares or whatever) about Mugsy's nips at all.
