So, Augie got a whoppin on Sat.  Shows that they are pretty lame outside the division!!!

...or they just got beat on the road by a really good football team, because that 65-0 win last week looked really lame.

And while we are debating semantics, this was a game in which both teams were "division" III , but they played an opponent from outside of their "conference."

I was at NCC when Wheaton made the change.

It may have been discussed on the previous CCIW board, but why did the Thunder change from the Crusaders?

Mugsey, Usee?

Go back to page 571 or so from last year, just before the Wheaton/MUC game.  Ric from Mount Union asked about the name change in preparation for the game.  It has been discussed a few times.  Rather than type it all out again... just start here:

I just had to post on the pre-season debate because there just can't be a meanigless debate that no side can ever win that I havn't been involved in. I think Usee can call the non-conference portion of the schedule anything he wants to call it.

Comet14,

I'll take that to mean support for your fellow posters, thanks! ;)

Are there any players from the CCIW currently in the NFL?   or maybe who was the last one that got some playing time in anything but PRESEASON (which can be hard to define)....:)

According to www.databasefootball.com that would be Jeff Query, a speedy wide receiver who played at Millikin in the '80's. Notice that several players played in 1987, which was the strike year when they used replacement players.

USee is pretty spectacular, and as long as he doesn't start calling "the non-conference portion" of the schedule the "conference portion" of the schedule, I see no problem with your statement.

Rumors afoot that Benedictine has a couple of ringers coming in for the North Central game. I don't want to give too much away, but their last names are Ditka and Brasky.

More compliments. You guys are softening me up. :-\

Carthage game was great considering the injury to the starting QB earlier in the week.  Strained his shoulder or arm according to Jake.  BTW, yeah, Jake only got 5 carries and 16 yards. One was a conversion of a first down on 4th and 2.  He will be the go to guy.  He's a bull.

Going to California for the Whittier game.  I'll let you all know the atmosphere there.  The atmosphere at Carthage is just great.  Funny but this was the first game with the students in attendance and I think there were more people last week.  Tailgating was great.

Carthage had a great passing game.  In the beginning, both teams were making lots of yards up and ddown the field.

And no, I'm still not Jake Smith.

GO REDMEN!!!!!!!

Jeff Query was a man among boys in the speed department!  Selesky was..uhh..not good.  I believe Keith Bishop was on the replacement team of the Minnesota Vikings with Ron!  Didn't Thorsen and Ritchie of Wheaton play in the NFL as well?  Those guys made Mugsy look good!  On second thought, no they didn't!   ;)  :P Or were they only in NFL camps?  Those were two of the best defensive players, along with the entire 86' Augie defense :-[, that I played against!

Nice to see Wheaton at #10 this week.

Thorson was the last player cut from the N.Y. Giants.  It was about the worst team he could have caught on with.  They had Pepper Johnson, Carls Banks, and another stud LB who is escaping me... oh yeah, Lawrence Taylor.

Ritchie actually signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a TE/WR.  I believe he made it to the last cut as well.

A 3rd Wheaton LB from that same team (Andy McGowen) signed with the Dallas Cowboys, but was cut early.

I was <ahem><cough><hack> the 4th and forgotten LB that year.  Which actually wasn't too bad because I saw a lot more action my way because they were running away from the other 3 LB's.

And yes... they did make me look good.   ;)

For awhile in the early '90s Query was used as much or more as a punt returner by the Packers than as a wide receiver. And you don't run back punts in the NFL unless you have some serious wheels.
