Is there a game to talk about this week or is everybody waiting for CCIW to start?  The board is dead.

If you look at the schedule below, there are some interesting games.  First is MSJ at IWU.  If the Titan defense again comes up big, it could make for a much more interesting season for the IWU supporters.  An average offense can get a lot of help from a stifling defense.  It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Second is North Park and Eureka.  Barring an upset, this is the greatest chance for either of these teams to come up with a victory IMO.  I like North Park's chances in this one.

Finally, Elmhurst at Chicago.  Both teams came up with big victories against what, at this point anyway, looks to be lower level competition.  Elmhurst looks to go 2-0 into their "comparison" game vs Olivet (IWU beat Olivet 20-9).  Chicago could get themselves into position to go 4-0 heading into the UAA matchup with Washington U on October 13 (Macalaster might have something to say about that on Sept 22).  This is a big game for both squads.

Carthage (2-0) at Whittier (0-0)
Mt. St. Joseph (2-0) at Illinois Wesleyan (1-1)
#23 Wabash (1-0) at Millikin (1-1)
Benedictine (1-1) at #13 North Central (1-0)
North Park (0-1) at Eureka (0-1)
#10 Wheaton (1-0) at Washington U. (2-0)
Elmhurst (1-0) at U. of Chicago (1-0)

Question: if this is the greatest chance for either team to pick up  a victory, what is barring an upset?  ::)

You're right, I should have said barring an upset by one of these teams later in the season..........  ::)

To answer the Bob Meyer question, it's because the kid had built his own Web page promoting himself. It got a fair amount of derision around these parts.

I forgot about that. That was bad. He also came on here if I remember, ripping all of us for criticizing him

MatBlake-I agree with your assessment and that the teams they beat were rather weak.  EC has won 4 out of 5 vs. Chicago and won 4 straight.  Plus they have won both games at Stagg Field.  I like EC in this one.  The Olivet Game I think is going to be more of a challenge.

Pat- I wanted to ask you something.  After week 1, I noticed Elmhurst had been "also receiving votes" (which I surprised at considering they beat BU), and Carthage wasn't even on the list.  Week 2 Carthage had a very solid win, Elmhurst was off, and the polls have Carthage 2 pts, Elmhurst 1pt.  This is no big deal, I am just curious how a team can lose ground by being idle (in other words no fault of their own)?  Please advise.

Elmhurst had 1 point in Week 1, 2 points in Week 2. How is that losing?

Carthage had 1 point in Week 1, 3 points in Week 2. They also gained points.

Not sure what your point is, here. Shouldn't Carthage gain points by playing?

You also have to realize that at the very bottom of the poll, all sorts of things can affect a team's placement. If the person voting for Elmhurst, for example, had decided that Salisbury (pounding Brockport State) needed to be in the poll, Elmhurst could have dropped out entirely.

So does Brian Urlacher but he doesn't get flack...  (kidding)

I've looked for BM's website but can't find it anymore.

I just became a Heidelberg fan after reading, "When loving the game is difficult" on the homepage.  It would be great if those guys bring in a W this year.

Alright, I'm not a fan anymore.

It looks like that W came last week over Marietta.  What's better, winning 6 games and not making the playoffs or snapping a 36-game losing streak that predated anyone in the program?

There was some discussion about old CCIW players that had made it or were trying to make it to the NFL.  Bob's name came up.  We still have no update.  However, it generated some exciting discussion about the Chicagoland Football League - http://www.chicagofootball.com

Not really what I was talking about.  Everytime his name is brought up we get comments like...
How is it possible that Bob Meyer didn't play in the NFL?  ::)

and

Bob Meyer is 7 feet tall and shoots lightning bolts from his arse.

just wondering why the sarcasm?  Just wondering if I missed something?  ???

I stayed out of this one.  Last time I brought empirical evidence to the board (Kevin Burris) and got taken to the Karma cleaners.

Although a great athlete, the bottom line is he wasn't good enough.  Few are.  The leap from D3 to the NFL is just too big.  And perhaps, becoming even bigger.

Is there a game to talk about this week or is everybody waiting for CCIW to start?  The board is dead.

+K BP, just because you've had a tough week on Kevin Burris

That love will be reciprocated when I reach 200 posts.  You will be the first beneficiary of my +K donations.
