I am an ex-Wheaton football player and recently got the update from one of the coaches on Zach Ullrich.  The preliminary diagnosis was that he suffered a hematoma on the brain (aka brain bleed), which is extremely serious and even life threatening.  It sounds like it was very serious for a while, but it looks like things have gotten better.  He has been responsive and the bleeding has stopped, which means he shouldn't require any surgery.  He isn't in the clear yet, so keep up your prayers, but things do look better.  The last thing I heard was that he was still in Barnes Jewish hospital in St. Louis.  This hospital is supposedly great at dealing with injuries like Zach's so I believe he is in great care.
That's all I know at the moment.  If I hear anything else I will let you guys know.  Just keep he and his family in your prayers.  As for his season, well that looks like it is pretty much over.

Thanks for the confirmation.  That is pretty much what I had heard via 3rd hand sources.  I didn't want to bug the coaches, so I figured I wait until information was more readily available on his condition.

This is consistent with what I had heard. I would add I heard the hit happened in the 1st quarter and he was checked regularly for concussion sypmtoms throughout first half as well as at halftime by doctor on the sidelines. He played one series in the 3rd quarter and collapsed on the sidelines. Because it was burst blood vessels it doesn't have the same sypmtoms of concussion.  Very scary.

Anything with the brain is very terrifying.  Sounds like the medical staff tried to keep up the observation when symptoms first appeared.  It was good fortune that the medical staff were close by when he collapsed.  Horrible to think what could have happened if he had collapsed on the bus ride home.

My prayers and best wishes for Zach for a full and speedy recovery.

New idea for you CCIW analysts out there:

after this weekend's games (since the "preseason" will be over  8) )we all get to post our updated predictions on the CCIW race based on observations, research, analysis during the next week. Some haven't seen their own team play yet let alone any of the other teams so for you armchair analysts out there start pouring over the stats, websites, and of course d3football.com and if you haven't made it out to see a game find one near you this weekend.

I will prompt everyone starting Monday to post their new predictions based on most recent information and we can let the CCIW schedule and all the debates begin.

Pat,

On North Centrals Past record from 2001,  you have us listed as 2-8, 2-5 CCIW... We were actually 3-7, 2-5 CCIW (nothing to be proud of, but you might as well have it correct)  You have the right scores, just listed the record wrong, FYI.

Come on Pat, you're slipping, don't make me mention the 2000 pre season all american team... ;D ;D

Here's the thing that guy mentions some BU preseason all american and I can't find him on either your 2000 or 2001 preseason all american team, was he insane or did I misread his post.

I mean I know about the HP team and all, but he was talking about a d3.com AA right?

The guy is referencing Michael Gardiner, who is indeed on our 2001 preseason team.

How do you think Wheaton will do now that Ullrich is out?
Christ never said it would be easy, He only said it would be worth it.
