Prayer is powerful. Let's everyone keep Zach in our prayers. This will be a long road for him physically AND mentally. As someone posted earlier, anyone who has played the game knows how it affects you mentally when you leave the game on your own terms let alone when the terms are not your's. He will need a lot of support.

This is very true, but I think that the bigger concern should be for his general health on an ongoing basis. Brain injuries are serious business, and their consequences can be long-term and insidious -- even if the injury was promptly and skillfully treated. I think that the larger portion of prayers offered on Zach Ullrich's behalf should be for a full recovery with no lingering ill effects.

I totally agree Gregory Sager

Hey CCIW teams, don't let your guard down against Wheaton. In lieu of Zach's misfortune, don't let the Wheaton posters lull you into thinking that they don't have a quality qb ready to play. You're not a perrenial power without having depth......and they are deep. They always have somebody step in and play. Zach will be sorely missed, but Wheaton will be competing for the conference championship when all is said and done. That Wheaton team will rally and dedicate themselves to win it for him.

Stink... My Lou Holtz impersonation didn't fool you, eh? ;D

Just to clarify, I don't think by any means this takes Wheaton out of the picture.  With Ullrich I viewed Wheaton as the clear frontrunner.  Now they are in the pack of contenders.  It hurts their chances, but Wheaton is not a one player team.

Wheaton has a great defense and special teams.  Not to mention they have rallied around adversity on more than one occasion.

A certain team in recent history comes to mind that had a below average offense, but a strong defense and special teams... that was enough to carry them to the Super Bowl.

Mugsy,

No, your Lou Holtz impersonation did not fool me just as he did not fool anyone. He was a GREAT coach whose teams went out and kicked major butt. I don't think anyone believed his BS either.  ;D

For those of you actually considering putting forth your revised picks next week for the CCIW race you actually have a rare opportunity to do your due diligence this weekend. You could take in as many as 3 CCIW games live. If you go to Elmhurst for the 1pm game vs Olivet you can easily make it the 25 minutes to Naperville for their 6pm clash with WashU. After taking in most of the first half you can make the 20 minute drive back to Wheaton in time to see most of the game with the Thunder taking on Hope.

Anyone who does this will have a clear advantage in the pickem's for the season!! :o

I spoke to a friend of the Ullrich family this morning and he told me that Zach is progressing well and that they are very optimistic about his recovery at this point.  Please continue to keep him in your prayers.

My friend whose brother plays for the Thunder told me today that 5th year senior OT Tom Christner (a starter) tore his ACL in practice last night.

Unfortunately, this is true.  Christner had seen some action in the second half against Washington and Wheaton was finally supposed to have the O-line back to full strength with Rowson returning this week.  Justin Carpenter, a 6'4" 245 lb. Sophomore has started both games at left tackle so far and should continue to start there with Christner out for the season.  Hopefully this won't be much of a downgrade for the Thunder, if it is at all, although Carpenter is smaller and has less experience.  It will be interesting to see if Rowson's return opens up the Thunder running game a little bit and hopefully helps with pass protection as well, because Kyle Bradley has the potential to be a very good pocket passer, but he is not as elusive as Ullrich and that worries me based on what I saw in the first two games.

Here is an article announcing Kevin Burris' induction into the Carthage Athletic Hall of Fame.  Congrats to the former Redmen running back.  http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=39931

The Elmhurst/Olivet game is 12:00 start CST  to accomodate the EST for Olivet.
We will go on the air about 11:30 CST and again you can listen live
conventional radio WRSE 88.7 FM
Internet  http://www.wrse.com   follow the "Listen Live" button.

With all the up's and down's we have experienced thus far, I think 7 of the 8 CCIW teams have a legitimate shot at the CCIW and EVERY game is going to be a brutal war!  Looking forward to a very fun year on the fields.

No problem Usee, sorry for the sarcasm but I couldn't resist. My only dilemma (spelling?) now is with the early start in Elmhurst this weekend is breakfast or lunch and bloodymary or beer.

Good luck and safe travel to all.

Uhoh, freshman cheerleader?  Can't wait for the Elmhurst game  ;)

All joking aside, best of luck to the CCIW this week and safe travels for all.

Comet14- I am usually on campus at the fb field early (when the rooster crows  ;) ) setting up the banner, and the equipment.  I will be on campus around 9am for the setup.  I do look forward to meeting you.  I will be dressed in shirt/tie only because I have to zip over to a family wedding reception in the afternoon after the game.  Hope to meet you then.

Your Daughter's a cheerleader?  Whoa! You might want to meet me alone then!  :o  There have been "stories at Elmhurst"  hehe just kidding. :P

Keith McMillan's Around the Nation is up on the front page. It is a great read weekly and this week is no exception.
