57 yard bomb 35-7 Wheaton.

This Bradley kid can play.  I think he has rushed for around 35 yards as well.

Bradley looks very comfortable in the pocket.  Is he a sophmore or Junior?

Bradley is a senior.  Norris is a sophomore.

I never watched Ullrich play, but Bradley looks very sound.

This Rocky kid is pretty good too.  42-7 Wheaton.

Yeah... he's a big, hard runner.  Fights for the extra yards.  Only a freshman.

As I mentioned early in the week, the loss of Ullrich did not leave Wheaton high and dry without a talent QB.  Bradley is a very capable QB.

But Ullrich had potential for a special season.  I think Wheaton will do well with Bradley...

What happened to all of the Augie posters?  I was looking for some insight into the Vikings win today and all I see are posts about the Wheaton game.

Jim Matson

I saw Pete's punt return for a TD/called back...he actually had 2 or 3 guys all over him waiting for the fair catch sign.  He caught the ball and literally exploded to his right before anyone even realized he did in fact catch the ball.  He went straight right and then cut up the field - I think the illegal block came when he cut.  Best return I've ever seen from him.

Bradley can throw the long ball.

Hope's QB is real good.  He just doesn't have enough targets nor a big enough line.

Listened to final quarter of the NCC-Wash U game on NCC radio and have now viewed the stats.
Thru the 1st 2 games it seemed Fanthorpe was the more efficient QB so I was a little surprised that Kniss was playing. The radio announcers were being fairly critical of his passing during the time I was listening. Then, near the end of the game they really went crazy when he threw an interception. They described the play as Kniss trying to force a screen pass in among about 6 WU defenders. They made it sound like there was absolutely no chance the pass could have been caught by anyone other than a WU defender. Now I see that Fanthorpe didn't play at all.

QUESTIONS for those that may know:
1. Was Fanthorpe injured?
2. If not, why did he not play at all----suspended?
3. Do any "in the know" NCC FB supporters believe Kniss is playing mainly due to the fact he is riding the coat tails of his highly successful brother who graduated last yr? Or---if Fanthorpe was not injured or suspended, is Kniss that much better?

According to the above Game release NCC's QB Fanthorpe did not play due to illness.  He was supposed to be the starter according to the WONC crew and was on the cover of the media guide...so it must have been a recent illness.  NCC could have used him...
I was glad to catch up with other games as listening to NCCs offense was painful!  The D did well and kept getting some stops and some opportunities for the Offense...
Wheaton did well against Hope tonite....did the CCIW proud in Michigan!

Carthage Fan:

Yes, thanks for posting the specific NCAA DIII Bylaws rule regarding the limit on number of football games a student-athlete may participate in per year (I did not have the manual at my fingertips when I posted so wasn't able to cite the specific section).  Anyway, indeed post season contests do not count towards the "any" 10 regular season contests.

Since we are on the topic, and realizing that one of the main purposes is to provide some playing time and introduction to the collegiate level of ball, what has been your observation with respect as to how Carthage's J.V. program provides opportunities for the newcomers and underclassmen i.e. regarding a "shot at some varsity playing time"?  Thanks.

DB,

Good question.  I don't know about Carthage's JV program so I will defer to other Carthagenians.

I have never seen a JV game, but, I would think if you can play and compete for a spot on the depth chart even if you are a freshman or sophomore you are most likely not playing JV.  Is it for development of underclassman or a place for guys to play who don't travel or aren't on the depth chart ?  How many guys have come off JV to start or play regularly?   I think its great to give guys the opportunity so they don't feel like they are wasting their time on the scout team all week.

PS  Sorry about the ByLaw reference...I actually had downloaded it earlier this year....first time I ever looked at it!

Don't know whether or not jv fball and jv bball have much in common, but it is certainly a great tool for bball development.  Keelan Amelianovich went from jv as a freshman to CCIW POY as a sophomore (as well as d3hoops.com first-team All-American as a junior and senior)!
