Officially-----NO

Welcome to the Professional Football Researchers Association web site. The PFRA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and, in some cases, reconstructing professional football history.

When sacks became an official stat, they also received a very specific and limiting definition. For example, if a quarterback is flushed out of the pocket and gets one inch past the line of scrimmage, it's no sack.

No -- every sack is a tackle for loss, though I have seen some schools count them separately.

The judgment call is whether a particular tackle is also a sack.

Just wanted to send a note of thanks to the Wheaton crew for a great atmosphere and a great time Saturday night.  I enjoyed visiting your campus, had a lot of fun shooting photos of the game, and wish you all well.  The photo gallery is up, so please check it out if you haven't already done so.

Long time reader - 8 posts.  What took you so long to sign-up?

Just out of curiousity, how many years do you have to read this board to be considered a long time reader?

A lot of guys read while they play, and then sign up when they are done.  Not saying that is necessarily the case with Radio, but I know that I read religiously for the 4 years I played before I created an account for myself.

I still think my argument was valuable and encouraged healthy, CCIW related debate.  After all, witty responses coupled with statistical evidence are what make this fun.  It's interesting though, I received an instant karma shellacking during those postings.  (NOTE: I have still not recovered...-14 :-[.)  So, I need to ask, what's the incentive for healthy, CCIW related debate if as soon as you post controversial topic, your karma takes a hit?

Jedi Master Pat, help me out here.  What am I missing?

It has been my observation over the years that asking people to increase your karma with applauses -- or the reverse, complaining about smites -- is considered by many to be a breach of posting protocol, or even whining (regardless of the tone used by the person making the request). As a result, asking people to applaud you or complaining about smites often has the opposite effect -- they'll smite you just for asking for applauses or for complaining about previous karma hits.

I'm not saying that that's necessarily the case here, BP, but it's something to consider. Asking people to increase your karma -- or, sometimes, even merely bemoaning what you may consider to be an unjust series of smites -- can occasionally annoy (or goad) a reader or two or three into meting out what they consider to be punitive justice. A lot of it depends upon the personalities of the people who regularly read the room; who you've ticked off in the past; your school loyalty, etc.

In other words, sometimes it's not the argument itself that causes the most smites. Sometimes it's drawing attention to the fact that people are smiting you and that you think it's unfair.

(In case you're unfamiliar with the terminology, I should tell you that each poster with 200 or more posts has two karma buttons on his or her screen: "applaud" and "smite".)

applaud = +1 karma
smite = -1 karma

And, in case you're wondering, I've never altered your karma in either direction.

Al Gore had not yet invented the Internet when I was in school, so we didn't get to even be readers.

BP, you have written a lot of good stuff since you joined this party. Perhaps, your karma will rise on its merits if you stop talking about it so much.
