Not to many Norm fans in the CCIW, huh? Dare I ask why? I heard a few things from one person, but was wondering if the feelings were consistent throughout the conference.

Ask Cardalum for some Norm stories.  He has a ton.  Some he can tell, some he probably can't tell.  ;)

Hey Cardalum, how about some Norm stories? I hear you have a ton. I am most interested in the ones you can't tell.

Another little known playoff tidbit for those fans who care: we all know the 3rd tie breaker in a 3 way tie is point differential. Did you know the 4th tiebreaker is defensive yards given up vs the tied teams? It has never come down to that but that's some complicated stuff to have to figure out during a game.

The 5th tiebreaker you ask? random draw by the commish.

What's interesting about the NPU/Augie game is the fact that NPU now plays the 3-35 defense and will have the NCC blueprint on film in preparation for this contest. Since the game is at NPU and Augie has only its pride to play for it makes you contemplate the motivations for the battle of the Vikings.

NPU should be performing better defensively than they currently are if they 38 players on the field at once.   :P

You would think so but they are still searching for their first conference win. It was my prediction (against all Sagerian reason) they would get it this year and I am sticking by that prediction.

We Maverick, we made this prediction.  I still believe.

What?  You don't like Top Gun?

great movie!

Now that is +k worthy.  Pretty soon we'll all be using this.  "Quit being so Sagerian in your analysis"  "How very Sagerian of you"  "I'm tired of this Sagerian slant with regards to the Elmhurst/Carthage rivalry in football"  "Now that's a Sagerian statistic if I ever heard one" and my personal favorite "I don't want to accuse anyone of being Sagerian but........"  ;D

Yes the feelings are consistent throughout the conf.  All that aside he had done a great job this year.... Still hate the green weenies
HEY NORM, I LOST YOUR HAT! GO REDMEN!!!

TrueAugieAlum

Well, I have tried to keep out of it this year.  Nobody believed me when I have stated over and over that the coaching staff for Augie is inept.

The game this past weekend only proved my point.  From the play calling - which pretty much told the team that the coachs do not believe that the team can make the big plays, to Coach Barnes temper-tantrum on the sidelines where he threw his clip board (way to show sportsmanship in front of all those recruits coach!!!!) it just goes to show that the guiding light of coach barnes has burned out.  After all, you cannot keep harking back to the 80's for your inspiration forever.

Now to make matters worse, seems coach thinks the way to motivate his players is to piss ALL of them off.  He refused to show game flim, stating there was nothing to see, and he is now blaming the players for the loss to North Central!!  No wonder the players are ready to revolt!!
Not sure if they are going to show up for the North Park game!!!!  Not sure I could blame them if they didn't.

Get out of your comfort zone coach!!!!  Start acting like a head coach.  We all know you played defense in college, but you are the HEAD coach now, not a defensive coordinator.  Do not blame the players until you blame yourself and your coaching staff.  You are, after all, supposed to be the LEADER!!!

"Know the enemy and know yourself; in a hundred battles you will never be in peril. When you are ignorant of the enemy, but know yourself, your chances of winning or losing are equal. If ignorant both of your enemy and yourself, you are certain in every battle to be in peril."

A few years back when Carthage was struggling with the NCAA as far as the mascot goes they thought about a mascot change.  Here was one of their options.  However, the NCAA still had a problem with that logo and suggested that this should be their logo instead.

As an explanation to the newer members of the board, Carthage's mascot used to be the Redmen.  The logo on the helmets had several Native American headdress looking feathers attached to the C.  In compliance with the NCAA, Carthage changed their mascot to the Red Men and removed the feathers.  Hence, the featherless bird.

You can see the old Carthage helmet logo here.  Just go down to Division III on the left side and find the CCIW.

Top Gun (1986) is one of the all time classics with one of the greatest soundtracks ever.  Ferris Bueller's Day Off was also 1986. Another great 1986 movie is Lucas that takes place in Glen Ellyn and features Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder.  I guess that's the only major thing that happened in 1986.  :P  Oh wait no,  Augustana won their 4th straight Nat'l Championship that year concluding one of the greatest football dynasties ever.

TrueAugieAlum-  I know how you feel, however I don't think you can completely blame Barnes.  Give some credit to Wheaton and North Central for just flat out beating Augustana with the 11 guys on the field.  Coaching is only a part of the football game.  The 11 athletes have to execute and play well too.  I think we are seeing Augie, that relied so heavily on that ball control wing-T offense in the 80's and 90's, starting to be matched by aggressive defenses put together by Wheaton/NC/IWU etc.  that have been able to consistenly beat Augie.

Oh boy, here we go again with the discussion between usee, Augie6 and myself...  :P

Not to rehash a discussion from over a week ago but quite honestly I'd say the Augie coaching staff did play a significant role in the loss to Wheaton with some questionable play calling.  1st and Goal at the 9 with under a minute... and you call 4 straight passes?

Yes, Mugsy but Elmhurst did something similar against Wheaton a few years ago where we had 1st and goal from the 6 or 7 yard line to win and couldn't punch the ball in, Wheaton ended up winning the game by less than 7 points.
I was watching the Augie/Wheaton game on the webcast and what was baffling to me about the 4 straight passes in the red zone, is you are a RUSHING oriented team.  In the redzone you stick to your guns and try to win with what your strength(s) are.  I thought 4 passes just fed right into Wheaton's defense and their safeties rushing in off the wings.  Just my two cents.  I never said Barnes was correct, just not completely at fault.

I assume you are counting the spiked ball as a pass? 8)
