Without getting into the why and politics about the Carthage Logo,  I played vs. Carthage when they had their original C with 2 yes only 2 feathers and I always thought that was a sharp, unique to Carthage logo.
I understand why they changed the logo and while I prefer the old logo, the new one is not all that bad.

Ok let's get back to talking football ok

"I think I broke his freaking (WGN word) neck!"

Classic football movie, what was the movie and late actor's name?

Also play "jaws" in James bond flick.

The movie is the original The Longest Yard starring Burt Reynolds.  The actor you refer to is Richard Kiel.

OK here's an 80's trivia for you

Lucas (1986) was filmed at Glenbard West HS in Glen Ellyn, IL

Which High School's football team was the team featured in the movie?

Which High School's band was featured in the movie?

Both are IHSA suburban High Schools.

Breakfast Club was filmed at Maine North which was closed not that long after the movie.

The players were actually from Glenbard West, although they wore uniforms from Palatine High School.  The team they play against were members of the '83 state title Glenbard West team.

What's interesting about the NPU/Augie game is the fact that NPU now plays the 3-35 defense and will have the NCC blueprint on film in preparation for this contest. Since the game is at NPU and Augie has only its pride to play for it makes you contemplate the motivations for the battle of the Vikings.

NPU should be performing better defensively than they currently are if they 38 players on the field at once.   :P

You would think so but they are still searching for their first conference win. It was my prediction (against all Sagerian reason) they would get it this year and I am sticking by that prediction.

We Maverick, we made this prediction.  I still believe.

What?  You don't like Top Gun?

great movie!

Yeah, he did it right... Is that why you fly the way you do? Trying to prove something? Yeah your old man did it right. What I'm about to tell you is classified. It could end my career. We were in the worst dogfight I ever dreamed of. There were bogeys like fireflies all over the sky. His F-4 was hit, and he was wounded, but he could've made it back. He stayed in it, saved three planes before he bought it.

Can you quit referring to the 80's as "classic"?  Those of us that grew up in that era hate to be thought of as "Classics".   ;D :-[

I'm really disappointed nobody has mentioned Red Dawn or Rock IV yet...

Mr. Ypsi

If I may interrupt 'movie nostalgia night' for a moment! :P

Looking back (both here and on other boards), I think all explanations of a 3-way tie have been incomplete (including mine :-[).  Here's the possibilities:

[First some simplifying assumptions.  If NCC does not win out, they are out.  If Wheaton loses to Carthage on Saturday, a 3-way tie is no longer possible (they still win the AQ by beating IWU; the winner of NCC-IWU is the AQ if they lose).  Thus, for the sake of illustration, I will assume that NCC beats IWU :'( and Carthage, and that Wheaton beats Carthage but loses to IWU :).]

If NCC wins by 1-3, they cannot win.  Wheaton is AQ if IWU wins by less than (1-3) + 4, otherwise IWU is AQ.

If NCC wins by 4, they can win ONLY if IWU wins by 4 (less than 4, Wheaton is AQ; more than 4, IWU is AQ; if 4, it goes to fewest yards allowed in the 3-way tie).

If NCC wins by 5, 6, or 7, Wheaton is AQ if IWU wins by no more than 3, 2, or 1, respectively; if IWU wins by 4, 3, or 2, respectively, NCC is AQ; if IWU wins by more, they are AQ.

If NCC wins by 8+, Wheaton is out in a 3-way tie.  NCC is AQ if IWU beats Wheaton by less than (8+) + 5; if equal to or larger, IWU is AQ.

I hope that is clear - and if it is not correct, I will just wait 'til Saturday when it will become MUCH easier! ;D

I was taking a gander of the regional rankings. I believe they usually take the top 8. Given both Wheaton and NCC win out (highly likely), and Capital losing to Baldin-Wallace. We could see NCC be ranked 8th. The question is will they take a 7-3 OAC team over a 8-2 CCIW team or take a team from another conf.?I also believe Wash U. plays Case Western who is ranked No. 4 in the region. If Wash U. can pull off the win Case Western will also drop down. It will be exciting to see what happens these next couple of weeks... I know they don't like pairing conf. teams in the first round but a NCC, Wheaton rematch sounds pretty nice

This is not correct.

1.  You've ignored automatic qualifiers - both the MIAA and IBC champs automatically qualify, but are not among the regionally ranked.  That right away cuts it from 8 to 6.

2.  Pool B ('at large' selections from among independents or conferences without automatic qualifiers) and Pool C (true 'at large' selections, including any 'surplus' pool B teams) selections are made nationally, not regionally (though using regional criteria - go figure!)  Thus, the number of North region teams actually selected for the tourney could be less than (or more than) 8.

While Wheaton (with one loss) would still be likely for a pool C (if they aren't the A), both NCC and IWU get in ONLY if they win the AQ (I'd rate IWU's chance of a C as flatout zero; NCC's as vanishly small).

Condolences to poster robertgoulet, whose namesake passed away this morning. :(

With Robert Goulet gone, who's going to appear and mess with my stuff when it's 3 pm and my blood sugar and energy are low?

As an explanation to the newer members of the board, Carthage's mascot used to be the Redmen.  The logo on the helmets had several Native American headdress looking feathers attached to the C.  In compliance with the NCAA, Carthage changed their mascot to the Red Men and removed the feathers.  Hence, the featherless bird.

You can see the old Carthage helmet logo here.  Just go down to Division III on the left side and find the CCIW.

Never stop to explain a great joke, MB. If people don't get it the first time, they won't laugh after you explain it to them. And those of us that did get your feather joke laughed all the harder for its subtlety.

Hope all had a safe and happy Halloween.  I was in charge of passing out the candy.  There were a lot of football players  and I was disappointed to see a lot of Packers/Rams/Lions/Patriots jerseys.  Where are the young generation BEARS fans?
Yes, I will miss the real Robert Goulet.  What a talent crooning, acting, starring the Naked Gun Movies.

Now onto real football topics.  The Elmhurst vs. Millikin game boils down to 1 thing. Turnovers.  Who is going to keep the ball the longest and execute when they have the ball?  Elmhurst is searching for a running game and Millikin is searching for a #1 QB.  Hmm,  should be a close battle between 2 teams that I would have to say are rather disappointing at this point in the year.

A few years back when Carthage was struggling with the NCAA as far as the mascot goes they thought about a mascot change.  Here was one of their options.  However, the NCAA still had a problem with that logo and suggested that this should be their logo instead.

And a chicken (with or without feathers} has what to do with the Red Men name ??? If you need to follow a post with an explanation for your intended humor of that post, maybe you should defer comedy to others.

By the way, the logo had 2 feathers not several as you infer. Check the logo you posted. Yes I gave you -K for lame humor.

+k for speaking your mind, and for being forthright about your actions!   :)
