Dang!  Titans were driving for the go ahead td when Ladd threw an INT deep in NCC territory.  (For those picking on the wildcard, I believe that is 4 TOs, 2 each team; I don't know the nymber of sacks.)

BTW, they finally gave the time again - 8 and change left in the game.

Defense comes through again - 3 and out for the Cards.  Immediately followed by a 24 yard Ceisel reception - the Titans are on the move again! :)

congratulations to TIm Rucks and the Redmen for a much deserved victory at Wheaton. Rucks brought his team in prepared and ready and they really took it to the Thunder after going down 10-0 Carthage ran off 35 points off wheaton mistakes and great pressure and execution.

All credit goes to the Redmen for this win. congratulations Redmen.

some stats from the game:

Carthage:

Oboyle 29-45 268 yds 1 INT; 78 yds rushing for carthage. 346 total yards.

wheaton:

norris 26-54 374 yds 2 INT; 41 yds rushing

4 turnovers for wheaton to 2 for carthage.

Now I am VERY worried - 52-yard td pass for NCC.  20-7, 5+ minutes left.

With Carthage knocking off Wheaton, ironically IWU's fate for the tourney is now in the RedMen's hands.  IF Carthage can do in NCC next week, the winner in Bloomington is still the AQ.  Unless IWU does a miracle comeback, if they win next week it sends the Cards to the playoffs if they win.

The Titan's fail on 4th and long - it is all but over now. :'(

Yes. wheaton basically eliminated from Pool C with today's loss. its AQ or bust for all teams next week.

Although I was blasted several weeks ago for telling the top teams not to leave games close i.e. 4th Quarter and a few points in the CCIW can quickly turn around?-- it turned out Prophetic Today -- nice try by Wheaton to come back!  I hope both games are good next week --  They should BOTH be GREAT GAMES...I want to go to Carthage! Congrats Carthage on the upset and good job to the Cards too....they left us nervous in the 3rd, but put the game away!  Hope all are healthy by next week--WOW CCIW does have some great games!!
D3 Rocks!

Mr. Ypsi

Final from Naperville: NCC 23, IWU 7.

Well, since IWU was picked for 7th and will still play for (at least) a share of the title next week, I guess I can't be too disappointed!  But it still hurts after coming so close.

Next week determines the AQ, with only Wheaton having control over their fate.  If they win, they are AQ.  If IWU wins and so does NCC, NCC is AQ.  If IWU wins and Carthage wins, IWU is AQ (and solo champ).  Go RedMen!!

Augustana cleaned North Park's clock today, 35-0. It was really the first time all season that NPU has regressed ... and when I say "regressed", I mean seriously regressed. This game was interchangeable with any number of boot-stompings that Augie has dealt out to NPU over the past thirty years; the Doggies ran the ball at will against a North Park defense that couldn't get off the field, while the NPU offense was totally stymied by Augie's D. Augustana outrushed North Park 357 to -10, allowed only 45 yards of total offense to NPU, and won the time of possession battle by a 2-1 margin. That tells you everything that you need to know.

While it was only 14-0 at the half, Augie had put together two very long scoring drives, and almost drove all the way in for a third score right before the half before the NPU defense stiffened in the shadow of their own goalpost and Augie missed an ensuing field goal try with 13 seconds left. But you didn't get the feeling that North Park was really in the game at the half, because the host Vikings had mustered no offense whatsoever. I think that they had only three first downs at the half, one of which came on a pass interference call.

The second half was more of the same, with NPU's defense getting completely worn down. By the end of the game, the Augie second-team backfield was running through gaping holes because the NPU defense was too exhausted to stand up to them. And on offense, everything that the NPU coaching staff tried came up empty. The offense was horrifically bad; the O-line got no push on rushes and couldn't protect Shelby Wood on pass plays, Wood was scatter-armed, the receivers dropped a bunch of passes, and the runners got knocked backwards every time that there was contact (as opposed to Augie's rushers, who tended to be brought down four yards downfield from where the NPU tacklers first made contact with them). The NPU offense was downright embarrassing to watch, and disgracefully reminiscent of the NPU offense of years past. I seriously thought that the program had moved beyond this kind of display.

The lack of depth for NPU is now showing itself at the end of the season. The team just looks plain worn out. There are a whole bunch of guys on the sidelines who are wearing street clothes underneath their jerseys, and the guys who are left are either frayed at the seams or were never really up to CCIW snuff in the first place. For all the forward strides that the Vikings have shown this year, the season can't end soon enough.
