WR Chris Durr has garnered 1st team attention as NPU's last 3 opponents have double and triple covered him for most of not all of the game,

Hmmmm.....I have a hard time believing that Augie, Wesleyan and Wheaton doubled, let alone triple teamed a receiver for most of the game.   ???

if having ittersagen guard you for a whole game is a triple team then yes!  8) :o :D ;)

My son and I were both at at the WC vs. NPU game and I can assure you....even after speaking with Coach P that Ittersagen was very seldom by himself on Durr all game.

I think Pete is the DPOY in '07 however WC DID NOT let him cover Durr by himself.  Nor did IWU or Augie.  When you only have one true offensive threat it is fairly easy to game plan....isn't it?

hmmm. I didn't realize coach P was calling the defensive signals for Wheaton. I was there too and wheaton plays mostly a cover 2 defense. Ittersagen was the cover 2 corner on Durr's side the entire game.  They lined up Ittersagen on whichever side Durr was on. So its true they rarely played man to man coverage but its also true they rarely double teamed him and never triple teamed him. They played a zone and if durr was running vertical or any outside route pete had him in that zone. Durr had 2 catches for 9 yards while pete was in the game.

Were those stats in the boxscore? :) (2 catches for 9 yards while pete was in the game)?   You keep very good tabs on the potential All-Amercan DB #12.

All-conf Shooins from NC   are Wenger and Sulo.
Fanthorpe continues to make a case for himself.  I havent seen enough of the other games to comment, but I would say ittersagen is a unanimous choice from the two games I saw and what is written on here.

Are there any shoo-ins for all conference players
Here are some I think have a high % of making it
Sulo NC
Scardullo EC
Maple EC possibly
Wenger NC
Dunlop IWU
Ciesel IWU
Kormelink MU

Hard to pick them this year because are many great players.
I agree with all of the above, but missing two
Ittersagen WC
and
Donovan Moore, CC
1st team DB and Punter

actually, yes they are in the boxscore. And I should correct myself--Durr actually caught 3 balls for 16 yds (another catch for 7 yds was nullified by penalty. The boxscore is pretty clear who made the tackle and/or who was in coverage. here is Durr's activity from the game (I think its pretty obvious when Ittersagen left the game from this--starts at end of game and works back):

Redmen04 Yes definitely Ittersagen and you can also include K Matt Denny.
Punting wise you might see Elmhurst's Geoff Steele get a few votes.  He has done a nice job punting for us all season long.

Coach Swider among leaders for Coach of Year award...

http://athletics.wheaton.edu/News/football/2007/10/29/FB-LIBMUT.asp?path=football

I have all the respect in the world for Coach Swider, who is a very nice gentleman and a great coach, but I think Coach Thorne at NCC should win CCIW Coach of the Year if the Cardinals take a share of the conference title, considering how many players he lost from last year.

Fish,

I am not sure where the logic is with this? If NCC beats Carthage and Wheaton beats IWU they will share the conference crown but Swider will own the head to head matchup. How does that argue Thorne over Swider for COY?

I agree if IWU wins saturday Eash should be a lock and If carthage beats NCC Rucks should be strongly considered.

However, Eash's team just got blasted by NCC. I think the loss to Carthage was a slap in the face to Wheaton, and they'll be ready. I agree Rucks could be a candidate if Carthage beats NCC. My logic for Thorne is to look what he had coming back and look what Swider had coming back. Wheaton had far superior talent on paper. However, the Thunder came within two minutes of losing to NCC and then dropped a game to Carthage. Thorne's team lost two games in the final minutes both times - in a "rebuilding year" for the program.

I'm not going to say it... I'm not going to say it because everyone is tired of hearing me go on and on about it.

But what FishHack is not taking into consideration is that what Swider had returning at the beginning of the year compared to what he has available to him right now is dramatically different due to injuries.  Since the first week of the season, to say Swider had more returning wasn't necessarily true...

I don't think that holds any water with the voters. Swider beat Thorne. no asterisks Mr. Shula.  ;)

79jaybird

Yes, but to Coach Swider's credit he has had to coach and win with a depleted roster (minus key starters) due to injuries all season long. I think they only played 2, possibly 3 CCIW games with a full strength roster.  My vote would go to Swider.

Any in depth analysis of the Wheaton/Illinois Wesleyan match-up?  I know there was a bit of it earlier, but I saw no conclusions - nor predictions.  Come on boys!

I gave my thoughts. No Titan Nation posters though. Maybe they are protecting their secret weapon?
