Any in depth analysis of the Wheaton/Illinois Wesleyan match-up?  I know there was a bit of it earlier, but I saw no conclusions - nor predictions.  Come on boys!

I gave my thoughts. No Titan Nation posters though. Maybe they are protecting their secret weapon?

I hope the Titan Nation recovers quickly from your predicted outcome of what Wheaton hands out on Saturday.  :P

How about the love glove???

If you're going to call a Wheaton CB that, it would probably be more fitting to give that name to Naked Abercrombie & Fitch Boy. ;)

Coach Swider among leaders for Coach of Year award...

http://athletics.wheaton.edu/News/football/2007/10/29/FB-LIBMUT.asp?path=football

I have all the respect in the world for Coach Swider, who is a very nice gentleman and a great coach, but I think Coach Thorne at NCC should win CCIW Coach of the Year if the Cardinals take a share of the conference title, considering how many players he lost from last year.

Fish, just to clarify, you guys are talking about two different awards.

The CCIW coach of the year award, voted by CCIW coaches.  And, the 2007 Liberty Mutual Award is based on the coach that demonstrates the utmost integrity on and off the field voted by fans.

Regarding the Liberty Mutual Award, I think this is the 2 or 3 year in a row Swider has been a top vote nominee.  Eventually, he will win it.

I  know that. I was speaking of CCIW Coach of the Year, but either coach is deserving. Thorne has never won it so that could be a tiny factor. I think it would be quite an accomplishment for NCC to win a share of the CCIW in a supposed rebuilding year for that program. That would say a lot about the coaching over there and the way Thorne has turned things 180 degrees from where they were.

Congratutulations to IWU's Marcus Dunlop for being named to the College Division all-district V academic team...

BLOOMINGTON — Illinois Wesleyan senior running back Marcus Dunlop has been elected to the first team of the college division all-District V academic football squad and will join representatives of seven other districts on the ESPN: The Magazine Academic All-America national ballot.

Dunlop, of Maywood, has a 3.96 grade-point average as a double major in economics and business administration. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi and Omicron Delta Epsilon scholastic honoraries and is president of the campus chapter of the Risk Management and Finance Society.

With 2,511 career yards, Dunlop is in second place all-time at IWU and needs 262 rushing yards to overtake Kurt Swearingen's career total (2,772 yards, 1975-78).

Well, you did say it. And yes, I am tired of hearing about it. Everyone has injuries. If anything, it says a lot about the quality of the Wheaton recruiting.

But, if Wheaton wins on Saturday, I'd give the COY to Swider for being two games better than  any other school. If IWU wins, I'd give it to Norm.

Go back to the predictions just prior to CCIW play. Most people had Wheaton and 7-0, and they should be there. Most people had NCC at 3-4 and they're playing to get to 6-1. Hmmm.

I'm not going to say it... I'm not going to say it because everyone is tired of hearing me go on and on about it.

But what FishHack is not taking into consideration is that what Swider had returning at the beginning of the year compared to what he has available to him right now is dramatically different due to injuries.  Since the first week of the season, to say Swider had more returning wasn't necessarily true...

Yes everyone does have injuries, I never claimed otherwise.  It is the sheer number, severity and who had the injuries that differentiates things a bit.  Team captains, All-Americans, starting QB all lost for most or all of the season.  Usee posted over on the NCAC board that when asked about it, Coach Swider said injuries this year have been the worst in his nearly 30 years of coaching.

I for one did not have NCC at 3-4.  I had them at 6-1.  I am not surprised at all where NCC is at.  Thorne is too good of a coach and their overall talent is too good not to be in contention.  I expect NCC to be in thick of things almost every year now...  Has Thorne done a great job this year?  Absolutely, but I don't view him taking a 3-4 team to a chance to win the CCIW.  Yes they lost some key players, but the cupboard was not bare by any means.

fyi... to validate where I thought NCC would finish, my 2007 prognostications:

Team Overall CCIW
Wheaton 10-0 7-0
NCC 9-1 6-1
Carthage 7-3 4-3
Augustana 6-4 4-3
Elmhurst 6-4 3-4
IWU 3-7 2-5
NPU 3-7 1-6
Millikin 2-8 1-6

Outside of IWU, which virtually no one predicted, not too shabby.

I think the only way IWU wins on Saturday is if something like the following happens to Wheaton.... ;D

Wow, what a hit.  I can't believe that guy held on to the ball.  Kind of reminds me of a play from the 2005 NCC game vs. Carthage.  NCC had a 23-0 lead at halftime, and Carthage came back and actually took the lead, 24-23.  It was the start of the 4th quarter and the offense was sputtering.  Tyke Spencer had gone out of the game (because he hurt his elbow, I believe?) and Senior Tyler Bell came in.  Tyler was about 5' 11" and 150 lbs. soaking wet.  The offense was faced with a crucial 3rd and long.  Tyler ran a dig, caught the ball, and just got OBLITERATED by Brandon Fox.  It was one of the most vicious hits I've seen in person.  He got knocked out cold, but some how held onto the football and picked up the first down.  We ended up scoring that drive and never looked back, but I still think that one play was the most crucial one we had all season.  We ended up winning the game 42-24, but that was the closest 42-24 game I have ever played in.  Despite his efforts, Tyler has absolutely no recollection of the catch (or the entire day and the one that followed).  He jokes about it and says "It was the moment that defined my football career, and I have absolutely no recollection of it!"  Good thing they have game film!
