Here is the Pantagraph's article on IWU vs Wheaton...

Coach Swider lists Andy Studebaker as "doubtful."  Didn't Andy have surgery Thursday?  A little gamesmanship, or did he not have surgery?

Yes, Studebaker had surgery, and he is definitely out.

If only we could have seen this Wheaton team finish the season intact....

No kidding.  You gotta feel for Coach Swider and the entire program.  Possibly the best team he's ever had and definitely the most injury-plagued team.  Unfortunately, things didn't get any better this week either.  Four more significant injuries on offense.  About half of the pre-season slated starters will take the field today for the Thunder.  Less than half on the offensive side of the ball.

No excuses come 1:00 though.  Hopefully Wheaton can still take care of business in Bloomington and at least salvage a CCIW Championship and maybe a playoff win or two.  That would be quite an impressive feat given all they've had to endure.

Sounds like he is definately "doubtful"   ;)

Interesting note from the daily dose:

No. 10 Wheaton at Illinois Wesleyan. This game, along with the game Keith chose, can impact two conference automatic bids, in this case the CCIW and the MIAA. Hope and Olivet, two of the three teams tied for first in the MIAA, played Wheaton and Illinois Wesleyan respectively and their opponents' records are the tiebreaker that it appears will settle the automatic bid. Oh, and Wheaton can win the CCIW automatic bid with a victory, so that's important too. IWU can win the automatic bid if it wins and North Central loses at Carthage.

So Hope and Olivet also put their hopes on the line in Btown.

USEE, any final thoughts before 1pm?  I missed the banter earlier in the week.

It will be a battle to score points in btown. The team that finds a way to get some points early will have the advantage.

Here is the audio from the Norm Eash Show on WJBC a couple days ago...obviously the primary focus was on the IWU/Wheaton game.

Word I heard was that Studebaker had surgery... so he's done for the year.  In other news it sounds like Wheaton could be without 3-4 more starters (all on offensive side of the ball).  Not good news when you are going up against the likes of the Titan defense.  As Wheaton lines up against IWU they could be without 6 players who were All-CCIW last year.  Just keeps getting better...   :-[

As ThunderStones said... no excuses.  Time to get it done.  You know Swider won't let Wheaton feel sorry for themselves.  He'll have them ready to go and they will give it all they have with whoever lines up.

Carthage was a pick to surprise in 2004.

Plus, Carthage got the automatic bid in 2004 -- there was no slipping in.

Umm... the link you sent me said you picked them for a suprise. Thanks for supporting my point. As for Carthage slipping in 2004, they did. After going 3-7 the year before no one could have predicted the Redmen to do anything in 2004. So for that fact they did fly under the radar and slipped in under everybody. The even won 2 playoff games and finished 5th in the nation! Therefore, thank you for supporting my point as Carthage slipping into the playoffs Pat  ;)

Guess I should have read all the posts... this wasn't news as ThunderStones covered it all.  Sorry.

It doesn't prove your point. They weren't under the radar if someone picked them to win games. They didn't slip into the playoffs as they wrapped up the automatic bid a week before Selection Sunday.

Otherwise, .... yeah, you're right. If you have anything left. :)

Congratutulations to IWU's Marcus Dunlop for being named to the College Division all-district V academic team...

BLOOMINGTON — Illinois Wesleyan senior running back Marcus Dunlop has been elected to the first team of the college division all-District V academic football squad and will join representatives of seven other districts on the ESPN: The Magazine Academic All-America national ballot.

Dunlop, of Maywood, has a 3.96 grade-point average as a double major in economics and business administration. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi and Omicron Delta Epsilon scholastic honoraries and is president of the campus chapter of the Risk Management and Finance Society.

With 2,511 career yards, Dunlop is in second place all-time at IWU and needs 262 rushing yards to overtake Kurt Swearingen's career total (2,772 yards, 1975-78).

Incidentally, there were other CCIW players to make this team:

2nd Team
WR Chris Fossum (Wheaton)
OL Blaine Westermeyr (Augustana)
DL Demetrios Vrettos (Elmhurst)
P Andy Klink (Augustana)

Congrats to all.  A huge honor and accomplishment!
