In today's Tribune, there is a story listing players in Illinois who will probably be drafted by the NFL.  It is at:
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cs-071117pompeiscout,1,2762876.htmlstory

Coming in at #4 -
4. Andrew Studebacker, DE, Wheaton College. Has an NFL body, measurables and 30 career sacks, but an injury limited him to five games this season. Probably is a 4-3 defensive end, but might be able to play linebacker in a 3-4. Could be drafted in the fifth-round range.

Just out of curiosity, who was the last div III player to get drafted by the NFL in the 5th round or later?  Anybody?

There were two players drafted last year in seventh round. Michael Allan, the tight end from Whitworth was one, and Derek Stanley from UW-Whitewater.
Ryan Hoag from Gustavus Adolphus was the last player taken in 2003.

2006 Michael Allan, Whitworth Chiefs 7-231 (Round-Pick)
2006 Derek Stanley, UW-Whitewater Rams 7-249
2003 Ryan Hoag, Gustavus Adolphus Raiders 7-262
2002 Tony Beckham, UW-Stout Titans 4-115
2002 Michael Coleman, Widener Falcons 7-217
2000 Tim Watson, Rowan Seahawks 6-185
1999 Clint Kriewaldt, UW-Stevens Point Lions 6-177
1996 Ethan Brooks, Williams Falcons 7-229

Congratulations to the Cardinals who proved that until that final whistle blows anything/everything can happen. Way to never give up that hope.
While UWW is a great stalwart and on paper should really have an edge, I don't think this is going to be a runaway.  North Central has showed they have been able to shut down big time offenses over the last 2 years, so I think NC will be able to at least hold their own.  Perkins Stadium is definitely a great venue and I encourage all NC/CCIW fans to make the trip up there.

Just curious... how many CCIW playoff representatives have lost to teams OUTSIDE of the OAC in the past 10 years or so?

The reason I bring this up is with Mt. Union being in the East bracket this year, this is a great opportunity for North Central to bring a CCIW team deep into the playoffs and to possibly make a statement that 8-2 teams from the CCIW are better than most 9-1 teams from other conferences... and perhaps the CCIW should be getting 2 teams to the playoffs on a more consistent basis.

Unfortunately, NCC now has to play the 1 team outside of the OAC that has been just a notch below Mt. Union.  If NCC can knock of Whitewater next week, I think that would guarantee the CCIW of having 2 teams in the playoffs next year and possibly the next... and oh yeah... it would also be a HUGE win for the Cardinals!

In the last decade or so, the only CCIW team to lose to a team outside of the OAC was Millikin - a loss to Wittenberg in 1998 (Wittenberg 13 Millikin 10).  During that span Wheaton lost to MUC 5 times, Augie lost to MUC 3 times, IWU and Carthage lost to MUC once, NCC lost to Capital twice and Millikin lost to ONU.  The only playoff victory against the OAC was Wheaton's 16-12 victory over Baldwin-Wallace in 2003.  So that is 1-13 against the OAC since 1995.  NOTE: Augie did have success against Mount Union in the 80's.

1995
Mount Union 40 Wheaton 14

1996
Mount Union 49 IWU 14

1998
Wittenberg 13 Millikin 10

1999
Mount Union 42 Augie 33

2000
Ohio Northern 47 Millikin 21

2001
Mount Union 32 Augie 7

2002
Mount Union 42 Wheaton 21

2003
Wheaton 16 Baldwin Wallace 12
Mount Union 56 Wheaton 10

2004
Mount Union 27 Wheaton 6
Mount Union 38 Carthage 20

2005
Capital 21 North Central 19
Mount Union 44 Augie 7

2006
Mount Union 35 Wheaton 3
Capital 41 North Central 13

Regarding getting 2 teams into the playoffs... that is a year to year decision based on a lot of factors, including relative play of all teams in the region (not just CCIW).  The CCIW has had 2 teams make the playoffs over the last 5 years.

This year was not very strong year for the CCIW.  That said had NCC not lost to Wash U. AND had Wheaton won 1 of their last 2 games, you would have seen 2 CCIW teams in the playoffs this year.  As it was, it sounds like Wheaton was the last team out (or 2nd to last team out) in Pool C considerations according to Pat & Keith.

Whoa there thunderdog.  Let me begin by stating that NCC is up against a HUGE task in UWW!   The Cards will have to play mistake free football to stay in this game.   The defense needs to play better than they did in the game against Franklin or it could be a long day.  I'm hoping that Sulo is healthy enough to play.   I don't think that NCC winning or losing Saturday has any impact on future playoff fields.  The CCIW is respected enough that two teams should get in if they only have one loss.

hello to all, just wondering what UWW can expect from NCC next game..

White jerseys with red letters. white pants, white helmets with red letters.

a lot of white and some red.

...and oddly enough, that dark brown stuff on the back of their pristine, white jerseys that makes reading those red letters numbers difficult will be the Perk's famous mud the NCC players earn from spending so much time on their backs.  ;)  :D  ;D

Good luck to the NCC team and all their fans making the trip to Whitewater.

yep. I sent coach Thorne an email today and suggested they don't show up for the game. Maybe he will take my advice.
