What about the Colorado Buffaloes??

That is "Ralphie" the buffalo, or is it actually a bison?

Speaking of mascots, any of the Carthage faithful hearing any rumors of a mascot change in Kenosha?

Boy, I hope not. Torchy is the funniest-looking live mascot in college sports, even funnier than the goofy mascots of Syracuse, Ohio State, and Nebraska. When a Carthage alumnus friend of mine pointed out at a Carthage basketball game that Torchy "looks like a giant walking turnip," I laughed so hard that I almost passed out. Heck, he really does look like a giant walking turnip.

Evergreen State, an NAIA school in Olympia, WA is nicknamed the Geoducks (Pronounced Gooey-ducks). A Geoduck is a giant clam. Check out this mascot.

That ain't right.

If IWU ever officially changes their name to the Green Weenies, this is the perfect mascot for them.  ;D

Dream on!  (And count your blessings that you are among the select few I'll accept that slur from without smiting! ;D)

But, if they ever change, I've always thought the "Beer Nuts" would be cool (a semi-major emplpyer back in my day - are they still headquartered in B'town?)! ;)

I have to admit that that Geoduck does give Torchy a run for the money in the goofy-looking live mascot department. Then again, considering that it's Evergreen State, I'm surprised that the mascot isn't some dude in Birkenstocks and tie-dye playing hacky-sack or devil sticks during the game.

Well there's
BeVo-  Texas  Longhorn
Ralph E   Colorado Buffalo
Georgia has that Bulldog (name?)
Air Force  has the Falcon on one of the Cadets perch at every home game.

I actually debated between 4 and 7... I think NIU has a huskie out there too.

LSU used to have live Tiger
Not all the below are the actual mascot, but I think are or have been on the field:
Georgia's "Uga"  bulldog
Army "General Scott" mule
Navy "Bill"  goat
USC "Traveller" horse
Texas A&M "Reveille" collie
Baylor "Joy and Lady" bears
Yale "Handsome Dan" bulldog
Tennessee 'Smokey" hound
Arkansas "Tusk" boar
Colorado State "Cam" ram
Florida State "Renegade" horse

Isn't google a wonderful thing?  HA!

Just a sidenote to the list...West Point actually has three mules take the field for each football game and at least one of them is present for every other outdoor sporting event - Raider (formerly known as Joker) is the Senior Mule, second is Ranger II (aka George), and the General Scott (aka Scotty) you mentioned is last and the newest member of the Army line-up.  He was named for Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Williard Scott, former USMA Superintendent who was a quite fond supporter of the mule team, going as far as to sit in the saddle for part of the Army/Navy games during his final tour at West Point.

Greg, well, duh!, on the Shirk Center! :-[  Being a Michigander for going on four decades now, I completely forgot who Shirk was.

Well, that clinches it - no more 'Green Weenies'.  Those who cannot muster Titans are only allowed our new alternate i.d. - the "Beer Nuts". ;D

I know IWU has the Hoopers Club, but aren't they limited to members of the Sigma Chi house?  I always thought it would be an idea worth exploring to get Beer Nuts to sponsor a campus wide Hoopers type club.  Green t-shirts with the Beer Nuts logo or something.  Slogan on the back - "We're nuts for the Titans."  Might be EXTREMELY cheesy, but it would certainly be remembered I think, no?  Not that this has anything to do with football and really belongs on the basketball board, but since the topic of mascots was brought up.

Mountain Dew sponsors the Hope basketball student section -- that's why they're called the Dew Crew -- but I'm unaware of any large donations that PepsiCo (which owns Mountain Dew) has made to Hope College either for endowment or capital improvements purposes. However, the Hope folks would know more about that than I do.

If Charcoal Delights would like to sponsor NPU's Carlson Crazies, I'd be all for that. I don't even think that the restaurant's management would interfere with the bizarre-costume tradition of the Crazies.

Greg, I have to admit, seeing the Dew Crew at the Final Four in '96, they kind of served as the inspiration for the Beer Nuts idea.  I think the uniformity of it all looks impressive.

greg and devildog:
PepsiCo made some significant donations/contributions to Alma College in the mid-90's for facilities improvements, such as scoreboards in the basketball athletic center, scoreboards for the football stadium, and others as well as concession stands.  Of course, Alma had to sell Pepsi product! ;)  I believe that PepsiCo had similar arrangements with some other schools, although, like you, I am not currently aware that PepsiCo made any arrangements for endowments or actual facilities improvements.  The latter wasn't necessary since DeVos and the alumni huge multi-million $ fundraising campaign too care of that.  Since MtDew is under PepsiCo, they may have some arrangement with the college for the concession stands, however, I do not know (although I should :-[ ;D).  Perhaps one of our other Hope posters such as sac would know.  Sac?  Can you answser this??

I will say, however, that yes, the Dew Crew is an impressive sight - just as good as the Duke or Ozzone sections at MSU.

PepsiCo has a similar deal with North Park; the scoreboards in the gym and the athletic field at NPU are all courtesy of Pepsi, which has an exclusive deal to sell its products in on-campus vending machines.

The corporation hasn't given any large sums of money to the school, however. The corporation did at some point give a significant chunk of money to Augustana, because that school's rec center is named after Pepsi.

looks like wheaton is changing offensive line coach again. The new guy is gone after just one season. after losing most of their qb's to injuries and giving up 36 sacks I can't say I disagree.

C'mon CardinalAlum, throw us a bone.  Just a position, that's all I ask....  ;)

Transfers are funny thing.  I believe it was around this time last year that Kyle Kniss was annointed the successor to his brother.  I'll bet that Cardinal fans are glad that Fanthorpe had something to say about that.  At the same time, Ulrich from Wheaton helped the Thunder get to the playoffs in 2006 (subbing in for starter Chupp) and prior to the injury was looking to do the same things.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out should the transfer occur.

Personally, I hope the annual scrimmage between Wheaton and the Little Giants continues.  I think it is a good measuring stick before the season begins.
