If a northbound Metra train leaves Ogilvie Transportation Center in downtown Chicago traveling at forty miles per hour, while at the same time John Sedeska leaves the Kenosha train station 55 miles north of downtown Chicago and runs southward down the tracks at sixty miles per hour, how long will it take before John Sedeska derails the Metra train?

Answer: NEVER..... The Metra train senses John Sedeska is coming and jumps off the rails in fear!  ;D

If those guys pan out, good for them.  We all know the difficulties the Vikings have had in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

Wheaton has listed their recruits on their website.  Looks like a very good class with lots of talent size and speed.

Wow... only 5 players for Illinois (including only 1 from Wheaton North), 10 from Texas... maybe rename Wheaton, "North Texas"

I'm well aware that Wheaton has pulled from Texas for many years now.  In fact, much of this dates back to 1993 when Wheaton brought in standout WR Wes Mooring.  It was Wes's father, Jon? Mooring, (former NFL player with the Jets), who really helped develop this pipeline over the last 15 years.

The reason I bring this up is... has the Illinois # been this low for a while now?  I want to say Wheaton usually pulls 10ish from Illinois with 2 or 3 from Wheaton North.  And the only DVC player is a Kicker from Wheaton North?  I know the rest of the CCIW will be have many DVC players on their rosters... I find it hard to believe not 1 position player had an interest in playing for Wheaton.  Any thoughts?

Percentage-wise the number of Illinois recruits typically runs in the 15-25% of recruits.  The number from Illinois and the local area is a bit lower this year.  Obviously it varys a bit from year to year... but this year is pretty typical in terms of geographic breakdown.

Just for reference... if you look at the 2007 roster:

From Wheaton North: 10
From WW-South: 4
From Waubonsie Valley: 1
From Illinois: 20 of 91 players
Wheaton Football: CCIW Champs: 1950, 1953-1959, 1995, 2000, 2002-2004, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2019

Here is some footage of Andy Studebaker and a pretty nice interview with him regarding his progress at the end of the clip.  Select the May 29th mini-camp on the right hand side of the page. http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/multimedia/index.asp?mm_file_id=5376&play_clip=y

Can you speak on the talent, size and speed of any of those guys?

I think the point is that you made a subjective observation about talent, and speed and an objective observation about size. All of which is fine but the list you linked here had no information other than names, high schools and hometowns.

Even your answer here only answers the size question (are cciw opponents going to be worried about a 5'10" freshman lb?) and a partial on talent with no specifics.

history here has shown that providing more detail is usually better than none when stating your case subjectively.

Another reason why Wheaton's Illinois turnout might be lower is the recent uprising of North Central and Elmhurst.  In the 90's and early 2000's many HS recruits felt NC & EC were too close to home and "not worth playing for" because their programs were struggling to get wins.
Nowadays, I know NC and EC's rosters are full of DVC, MSL, CSL, etc.  power HS conferences so there is less to pick from.

You have Elmhurst, North Central, Benedictine, Wheaton, and Aurora (5) schools recruiting and picking talent from 1 county (DuPage), it's pretty competitive.

Hey all,
It's been quite a while (Fall).

Any news on North Central's recruiting class? I've checked back a few pages, I don't know if my eyes can take more staring at a computer screen...8 hrs a day at work is a strain.

I hope all is well with everyone affiliated with this board (as well as their families). I'm going to make a concerted effort to get back into the D3sports.com forum world...I know you all have missed me dearly.

Boy did I miss you Goulet....  Here is the link for NC's recruits for 2008-2009  Hope you are doing well

Much abliged, FC.

I would have loved to be around more often, but I have been busy doing such things as....well....I really don't have a legitimate excuse!

...
The talent in Texas is very predictable in the UIL (University Interscholastic League).  In the 5A and 4A schools (The Colony HS in Lewisville, WE Boswell HS in Saginaw TX and Abilene Cooper HS, Abilene TX), the talent is very good.  The great majority of 5A and 4A schools play quality ball and those players have had plenty of reps versus quality foes.

The private schools in Texas have not taken off because of the historical support for public schools and interscholastic athletics, especially football.  IMHO, as I lived it, high school football integrated Texas public schools in the 1960's and early 1970's.  The six guys out of Covenant Christian Academy and the guy from Fredericksburg played at a much less competitive level than the usual "Texas recruit".  (I am not imputing that they have not learned great technique.  There is no state that has better interscholastic football coaching across the board than in Texas.  I just am not "falling all over myself" that they are Texas football players, unless you guys in the CCIW are willing to concede the superiority of Texas football players in general.    ;)    ;D   Six starters off the Grapevine HS or Colleyville Heritage HS or Southlake Carroll HS teams from the same area would have been more impressive and more ostensibly impactful.)

I think that they are a good addition, and they may help open a pipeline to Wheaton for its own sake.  A Wheaton education is a good one.  I am interested to see how they perform.

I have no opinions regarding a state-by-state analysis of high school football players, Ralph, except to note that certain states (Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida, especially) seem to crank out a disproportionate number of college and pro players every year, and that for some reason Florida seems to annually be a source of speed guys. (Perhaps you learn to step lively there when you have to constantly walk through all that swampland. :D) And we all know about the legacy of great quarterbacks who hail from western Pennsylvania.

Having said all that, if actress Minka Kelly on Friday Night Lights is a legitimately representative simulation of the real thing, then I am willing to concede the superiority of Texas cheerleaders in general. ;)
