I have been talking for a couple of months about a D-1 transfer for the Cardinals and I am told he is officially in the fold.  Welcome University of Illinois transfer and former Montini all-stater, Mike Mucha to the beloved Cardinals.  Here is his bio from the Illinois website.  Not sure where they will play him, but you can never have enough quality athletes and he is a great one!   :) :) :) :) :)

Welcome aboard, Mike Mucha!

It,s official! On Elmhurst websight Journell is in deed stepping down as the Bluejays head coach to take the D- coordinator position @ U.W. Stevens-point. The search for his replacement is underway. I know my son was upset because Journell was one of the main reasons he chose Elmhurst to play football.

He left because John Sedeska is now coaching in the CCIW... All other coaches will soon do the same!  :D

Because John Sedeska recently had the idea to sell his urine as a canned beverage. We know this beverage as Red Bull.   ;D

Major step back for the Bluejay program!   Why would Journell leave to become the D-coordinator of another D-3 school?  Was he promised the head coaching job at some point? (No pun intended)  Still seems pretty strange for him to hurt the Elmhurst program like that.  I thought this kind of thing only happened at Benedictine!! ;D

Again,  I wouldn't put a lot of weight into this rumor about Journell.  I talk with him on Fridays prior to every Bluejay fb game, and he loves the campus, the UCC and what that church stands for, plus (as far as I know) his family is happy where they are currently at.  I would be SHOCKED if this rumor pans out to be true.

Uhh....you were saying??  :P ;)

That's really surprising.  According to the article, he did have a long tenure at UW-River Falls.  Perhaps he just wanted to get back into the WIAC.  It does seem like strange timing.

Redman, do you see that line behind you?  It's called the gross factor, and you just crossed it.  :)

What does this meen for the rest of the coaching staff? Does a new head coach generally bring in his own coaches or is it to late in the game for that? Is there time from now untill the start of the season to put in a new syastem if a new coach chooses? One more question, Does D3 allow any more contact days in any situation where a coach leaves. Not maybe in this case but closer to the season maybe?

Coach Journell spoke glowingly of his days at UW-River Falls twice with me in the past year. Not at all surprised by this.

It may well pay better. It could be pension-related, if his UW service from River Falls gets added in with new service.

It depends on the new coach.  If they stay in-house, there might not be that much change to start.  If they go outside, you might expect they would bring their own full time guys.  The part time coaches usually end up staying as they are harder to find at this level.  It might be tough to put in a new system, but it is inevitable regardless.   They might start out pretty basic and put things in as each week goes by.  With it being June already, maybe they pick one of the present staff to be the interim coach this year.  This would give the program the least amount of turmoil and they will have more time in the off-season to find a coach.  Not many coaches are available at this time of the year.

Has the position that journell accepted been open for some time or did the previous coach leave or get reassigned?

79jaybird

Well I am shocked  :o

Why wait until THIS LONG (2 mos. away) to make your decision?  This puts EC is a real bind because how many (proven winner type) coaches are available this late into the off-season?
Hopefully EC hires a new coach ASAP and can get him up to speed with the program.  I hate to see this with any school or team, because the players are the ones who really suffer.   >:(

Pat,  Coach Journell did mention to me many times (also) that he loved the WIAC, however he also (many times) mentioned how much he loved coaching and liked both Elmhurst College and the city of Elmhurst, IL.  This is why I'm puzzled at why he left.

I doubt that Elmhurst will have a problem finding a new coach.  There will be lots of interest in this position.
