Elmhurst new HC - Todd Nichols or Tim Lester? Decision supposedly due by next Monday.

Hoping I'm wrong, but I'm guessing Lester.... >:(

Todd Nichols gets my vote.  Coach Lester should stay at NCC.  Didn't he just get there??

Any coincidence in the "COLD BEER RINGTONE" advertisement on the top of the post page with all the "beer babble" on the last couple pages?  Probably not, but it is quite a funny coincidence!!!

Todd Nichols and Tim Lester would both be great candidates for HC, IMO- moreso because they have been involved with the EC system before.
I like Lester because one thing he told me in the booth is that he hates "routine" and being to easy to read.  He likes the "fun n' gun" approach and not afraid to mix up the norm.
Nichols I like more for what he does off the field with regards to strength and conditioning, off season work, and getting the shape/makeup of the team in the right direction.
Again, either candidate would be great.

No, it's probably not a coincidence. The google ads read the content of the page before serving up ads.

And please note that those Google ads come from the Ypsi suburb of Ann Arbor. :D

Don't actually know if the design is there, but the selling is.

All right, Sager, oops I mean Regas the Barbarian, you rolled a 6 and a 2.  You have just defeated the King Orc of the 3rd Underworld!

That is pretty cool. Maybe if we start talking about Norm Eash there will be an ad for football coach at IWU?

In that case why did'nt google have an ad for John Sedeska?? ;)

John Sedeska don't need no stinkin' ad! :D

I'm wondering, if usee and Mugsy start hyping their team more, will Google put up a 'Wheaties' ad? ;D

OK, enough beer talk.....wait, did I just say that?   ???

Seriously, I am wondering what the thoughts are for the CCIW this year.

Reading all about Wheaton and North Central, ranked in top 25 pre-season, preseason All-American candidates and seems like they are the top runners...again.

New HC coming into Elmhurst (what's the latest?)

Augie goes to the Spread.

Lots of things are different at Carthage.  Sedeska and Peebles are new.  O'Boyle, DeBaker and Shenault ( Franko had 1 year of eligibility left) are gone.  Some position changes, new turf.

North Park has some changes, IWU?  Millikin?

Lets talk some football......Carthage reports in 49 days!

North Park has new D coordinator Jim Blake who moved over from the oline.  He had been a DC at several small colleges previously.  Definitely not boasting but NPU does have a fairly high number of starters coming back.  They were close a few times last fall hopefully they can edge some of those close ones out in 2008.  Wood has to have a big year at QB.

Speaking of QBs it will be interesting to see how Elmurst's 3 way battle for the starting spot goes.

I also understand Len Vandenboss defected to wheaton's staff (previously npu db coach). He has coached at wheaton and NCC previously.

Quote from: lakeshore on July 03, 2008, 07:12:56 PMNorth Park has new D coordinator Jim Blake who moved over from the oline.  He had been a DC at several small colleges previously.  Definitely not boasting but NPU does have a fairly high number of starters coming back.

The problem is that two of NPU's three All-CCIW players aren't coming back to school in the fall. Well, that's one problem. The other is that there will only be three seniors on the 2008 Vikings squad. It's awfully hard to win without seniors.

The good news is that the raw numbers are up -- there will be about 80 players in camp this year, as opposed to about 60 last year. And Scott Pethtel feels that his depth is better, although it's still not where it ought to be. His desire is to get about three-deep at every position in terms of CCIW-competent players; this year he'll be about two-deep. That's an improvement over last season, where he had just about enough decent players to fill out the starting lineup and nothing else, and as soon as the inevitable injury attrition began piling up it was bail-out-the-leaking-rowboat time. And, thanks to Helwig's weight room and a year-round lifting program that was not in place under Pethtel's predecessor, this team will be markedly stronger than NPU teams of years past.

It's still going to be a seriously uphill battle for the Park to win a CCIW game this year. It'll likely require an opponent falling apart as much as NPU playing really well on a particular Saturday in order for the Vikes to break that odious losing streak. But my expectations are that they'll improve from week to week both as individual players and as units; that blowouts will be kept to a minimum, if not discarded entirely (because the coaching staff isn't going to allow anyone to just shrug his shoulders and carry on with his business if NPU gets one of those traditional 57-0 pastings at the hands of Augustana); and that the Vikes will better the 1-2 nonconference record that they've logged during Pethtel's first two years at the helm.

This will be another mulligan year for the Park. But by next year, the expectation is that NPU ought to be at the point where it's going toe-to-toe with most CCIW opponents.

Yes, he was the coach to be named later in the deal that brought Wheaton grad Troy Edwards over to NPU to coach the women's soccer team last year.
