Let's not forget Jaybird that you were pretty certain that Journell was happy in Elmhurst and was trying to build a program.

It's hard to be objective when you're as close to the program as jaybird is. From the inside, everything looks good and the kool-aid tastes great. :)

Just a side note in all of the coaching drama...Elmhurst and NCC players keep your heads held high because ultimately it is you guys that either win the game or lose the game!   Come together as a team!

What's the word on any controlled schrimmages foe CCIW teams this year. Is it to early for those to be scheduled?

Why wouldn't NC go to Wienke, who has been instrumental in helping NC get a solid defense for the past few years?  Not taking Wienke would not make sense to me at all.

Well...let's just call it a personality clash.  Weinke is a great coach with as much passion as any coach I have ever seen.  His defenses were statistically better than Lesters.  Stay turned for today's episode of...."As the Cardinal Turns"   ;D

And it wouldnt make sense to most of us either, but its very much a possibility.  Like CardinalAlum stated NCC has had a number of "personality clashes" in the past year. Is it me or would you think one of us would have heard Wienke named already if NCC wasnt thinking about other possibilities?

Comet14-

Im wondering the same, especially for NCC who didnt play one a couple years back and lost to a certain CUW the first game of the season.

NCC.2008

I was just wondering how pissed does everyone think Lester is after recruiting most of the 73 incoming players for NCC, just to have to have them beat up on the Blue Jays for the next 4 years?

79jaybird

probably no different than any other coach (at any level) getting upset that a person he/she recruited ends up going to play for a different team.  It's a new beginning for Lester and I think he has a clean slate to work with.
I always liked to have scrimmage that way you could work out the kinks, get past the nervous "quibbles" and work on the mistakes you saw in video (after) from the scrimmage.  Elmhurst has scrimmaged Ripon, CUC, UW-Oshkosh, and Lake Forest in the past.

Wheaton has been scrimmaging Wabash virtually every year now for the past decade... maybe more.  I don't believe this year would be any different.

That said... much of this may have been due to the coaching friendship/relationship between Coach Swider and Coach Creighton.  Now that Coach Creighton has moved on from Wabash, I don't know if this will continue or not.  I know Swider & Creighton had established a good understanding and agreement on the format and structure of the scrimmage to the point where both teams really benefited.   In fact I believe some sections of the scrimmage were scripted by both coaches to test specific schemes/players.  With a new coaching staff at Wabash, I don't know whether or not this will continue forward in future years.

There has been a lot of action over the last few days involving NC and the Elmhurst Bluejays.  EC gets a great head coach with experience in the CCIW.  NC gets a mess to be cleaned up with a few months till the opening kickoff of the 2008 season.   Talk about getting the raw end of the deal.
Fortunately, we are returning the OPOY Fanthorpe, Wenger and a very good supporting cast on both sides of the ball.    I guess adapting to change is what makes a good team great.

Here is a link to a post-game interview with former CUW wide receiver Ric Levy.  The highlight includes some video of former CUW running back Manny Mills as well as a few recently graduate UW-Whitewater players.

Looking at the limbo with EC/NC/NPU...
What limbo at NP?  They added an O-line coach recently, but that hardly qualifies.

Yeah, what Mr. B said. What limbo with NPU? Scott Pethtel is starting his third year, and he's not going anywhere. And the continuity of his staff has been fairly average by D3 football standards.

Good point.  Several CCIW teams have been blessed with a long tenured coach and long stable staffs, but that isn't necessarily the norm within D3, especially with the assistant coaching side of things.
