Son of Tailgater

I am pretty sure I have been away from the boards for a year as I have been getting my career going and really busy but I wanted to get involved back again this year...

Congrats to Andy (I am actually working with his cousin in Bloomington so have been updated frequently on his progress)

Looking forward to another competitve season and will be attending lots of Carthage games this year I'm sure.

Comet14- log in,  go to the page that has all the Regions (West Region, Central Region, etc.) listed.  Under General Football there is the Pick Em's.  There have already been two posters to list their picks for this weekend.

I know you are anxious to start to defend your crown.  :P

Mr. Ypsi

Uh, Mugsy, since Wheaton only has a scrimmage, did you forget about week one of pick-ems?  Since I may not make it to a computer again before Saturday, I already made my picks, but feel unfairly deprived of my chance to blow the bonus question! ;)

Are We doing pick'em's this year?

Yes... I was out of town last week and unexpectedly did not have computer access.  The weeks prior to that were a blur due to a newborn.  Otherwise I would have already posted the picks for the week and annouced the contest to others can join the fun.

I'll post the picks late tonight.

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Around the Region has its first issue. it highlights the NCC/ONU game next weekend as one of the pivotal games in the region this season. I must admit highlighting the Lakeland/mt st joe game on the same weekend over the bethel/wheaton clash is interesting.

There was the Orlando Thunder from the original World League of Football.  They had pretty cool helmets white with what looked like a cloud and thunderbolt on it.
Orlando I can understand as Florida is the lightning capital of the world (more documented lightning strikes in FL than anywhere else in the world)  but Oklahoma City Thunder?   :-\

Looking at the Elmhurst/Benedictine matchup I think it boils down to who's defense is going to be able to stop the other.  Elmhurst has a lot of skilled players returning and in general, their offense will be the Jays strength.  Defensively, EC lost a ton and will need some guys to step up.  I did see Lakeland have some big plays in their scrimmage and know BU has a few solid offensive guns too.  I think this could be a real high scoring affair.

One other question for the Jays-  who's going to be their QB?  Or a better question is Which QB is going to see more starts here in 2008?  Kudyba's the vet, throws a better pass,  but Pedi is the better runner and better agility.

I thought there was a MIAA team using the Thunder mascot.  Trine, formerly Tri-State?

What has me uneasy about the Wheaton/Bethel game other than the fact Bethel starts the season #5 in the polls after a semi-finalist season last year, is that Bethel will have one game under it's belt before they face Wheaton.

As sighted here numerous times last year, prior to Carthages victory over Wheaton at home last year, Wheaton had stacked up quite an impressive record at home over the past 5 years - only Augie had reasonable success.  I think the home field advantage will be somewhat negated by the fact Bethel will have their first game behind them already.  Teams typically have better in game conditioning after the first game and often make less mistakes as a result.

Mugsy, you are correct ... Trine is known as the Thunder, too!
