For the North Central fans who can't make it to Olivet for the game tomorrow night, I will have livestats for the game ... The link is www.olivetcollege.edu/athletics/livestats/mfootball/

Also, I talked to your radio crew and they make the trip.

If you are coming to the game, have a safe trip to Michigan ... If you want to get a bite to eat before the game, I would recommend stopping somewhere before you get to Olivet.

I'm sure the local Chamber of Commerce thanks you for your support! ;D  Is it really THAT bad?

At that time of day,  there are two pizza places and one restaurant in Olivet open. The restaurant has good food, but the locals usually pack it in on Saturday nights. The only fast food is a Subway inside the BP gas station.

Gotcha - were I a Chicagoan, I suppose Marshall or Battle Creek would be preferred! ;)

If you're staying for awhile The Gavel  in Charlotte, MI  (just up the road from Olivet) is a good place, more sit down style as opposed to fast food.

Vikings finish the game on top, 35-10. The Eagles managed a TD very late.  The game breaker was when an Eagle interception-for-a-TD was called back because of a late hit on the Viking QB.

NPU had its way with Benedictine today. After BU kicked a field goal on its second possession, the Vikings reeled off 35 unanswered points and were in total control of both sides of the line of scrimmage when Scott Pethtel called off the dogs and pulled the last of his starters with ten minutes left in the ballgame. The Bennies scored a meaningless touchdown against the North Park backups with six minutes left to complete the scoring.

NPU held BU to about 250 yards of offense, with junior LB Lucas DeJong, freshman DT Luke Estes, and freshman LB Rod Ojong playing particularly strong games. The Vikings took the ball away from the Eagles six times, four times on fumbles (one of which came on special teams) and twice on interceptions. On offense, senior Jacob Mueller ran for 101 yards and 2 TDs on 27 carries, and sophomore Rakim Jones added 45 yards on seven carries. Junior QB Shelby Wood (9-15, 126, 2 TDs, 1 INT) had perhaps his best day ever in a Vikings uni, as just about every pass he threw was on the money; the incompletions were almost all drops, and the pick was the only bad pass he threw all day. The O-line did a great job, giving Wood plenty of time on pass plays and opening up lots of holes for Mueller and Jones. That was the most gratifying aspect of the day, as the relative lack of strength of the O-line has always been the biggest obstacle to North Park having any success on the football field. It's great to see them dominate the line of scrimmage.

NPU also pulled off the most picture-perfect trick play that I've seen in years. Starting a drive on the North Park 33 after the Benedictine FG, Wood threw a right-on-the-button bomb on first down to freshman WR Sam Corchiaro that was dropped in mid-stride at about the BU 30, five yards beyond the defender (Corchiaro would later atone for the drop by catching a 38-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter). Nevertheless, the Vikings drove the ball with a couple of good Mueller runs that put the Vikings at the BU 31. At that point the Vikings executed a double-reverse pass, with lefty freshman WR Jeremy Dybdahl heaving a throw while rolling left that landed squarely in the arms of sophomore wideout Sam Lialos (the first of two Lialos TD receptions). It may have been the best play I've ever seen a North Park football team execute. Faint praise, I know, but it's still worth mentioning.

Benedictine? Well, the Eagles have a very good punter ...

NPU won't get to savor this Homecoming win for very long. The Vikings have to face Wheaton out in DuPage County next Saturday afternoon.

Of course, the bad news is that North Park's win will probably result in the Vikings getting knocked out of the next AFCA poll. ;)

Their QB, Hitt, proved very elusive throughout the game.  I wonder how many yards he racked up on the ground.

Hitt did run for 93 yards on 14 carries. He's got a nice burst that allowed him to get around containment when he rolled out, but his arm is terribly scattershot. His throws were well off-target all day, as his 12-33 line and his two picks indicate.
