The school where Mugsy received his Master's degree...... :P

lol.

Seven years of school down the drain... :-\

I still find it amusing that I receive letters from NCC soliciting money for the athletic program, particularly the football program.  They have given me the opportunity to become a supporter of the program on a variety of levels - $100, $250, $500, $1000 or $5000.  I get all of the recaps and season previews, yet I never attended a single event (athletic or otherwise) other than class.

Guess they don't know of my allegiance to Wheaton as a player and coach.  Gotta hand it to them... they are persistant.

Add to it that we receive letters requesting support to North Park since my wife is an alum and we are getting hit up from 3 of 8 CCIW schools for monitary support.

I've never been subjected to fundraising solicitations from another CCIW school, but I've been witness to the next best worst thing. As the chairman of my church I have the authority to rummage through the church's mail. I have thus become aware over the past year and a half that the church is on the Wheaton mailing list to receive the school's alumni magazine. Since it comes addressed to the church without any individual's name on it, the church's office manager (NPU '00) and I (NPC '83) have speculated at length as to what infidel could've taken it upon him- or herself to introduce such insidious literature within our walls. We've wondered if it was our former pastor, a Wheaton grad, but since he never mentioned his Wheaton ties to anyone in the church unless prompted -- and his three children all went elsewhere to college -- I kinda doubt that it was him.

(Since he's now the pastor of Dennis Prikkel's church up in Mount Prospect, I wonder if Dennis has taken to wearing a "Kiss My Wheaton" button on his lapel on Sunday mornings.)

At any rate, while I was upset when I first noticed the Wheaton alumni magazine sitting brazenly in our church mailbox with the church's name on the address label, I have since decided to have some fun with it. The office manager and the new pastor (NPC '90, NPTS '08) and I are open to any suggestions as to what form of ritual destruction -- whether running it page-by-page through our Fellowes paper shredder, setting the church's grill in the middle of the parking lot and putting the magazine to the torch while all of the church's NPU alumni bask in the warming glow generated by the flames, or dropping it in a nursery crib and letting some teething baby gum the thing beyond all recognition -- we should employ to eliminate this dastardly attempt at Wheatie propagandistic infiltration of our congregation.

we've got two wheaton grads pastoring our church - double your ....

Is one of them Paul Thompson by chance?  He was the punter\kicker at Wheaton during a few years that I was playing at Wheaton.  He is a few years older than I.  Great person.

I talk to or see him several times a year as my brother-in-law is a good friend of his, plus I have relatives at the Covenant Church in Mt. Prospect.

We ALL have our crosses to bear....

Off topic -

DGP & son thoroughly enjoyed their experience at last night's Cubs game (other than the score).  Slimmo was able to score a couple of tickets (at face value) and though we had to sit in the upper deck boondocks WAY down the leftfield line, we had great views of the field and the only post-obstruction was in centerfield.

A real festive atmosphere - and after the game it was like a street festival with all the streets around the ballpark closed - the cops/fans ratio was about 1 cop for every 2 fans (at least it seemed like there were that many).

Also there are thousands of fans who go down to Wrigleyville who don't have tickets or any intention of trying to get in the game - they just go for the circuses.  Truly amazing.

Well, you can't blame Keith for thinking that way.  Elmhurst has played Augie first game of the CCIW season the last 3 years now.  Each time Elmhurst has been 3-0 heading into the game.  Until Elmhurst gets "over the hump" and starts winning some of these close games vs. the Augie's, Wheatons, (recently North Centrals etc.)  the pessimists will always pick the winning streaker.
In the 80's and 90's Elmhurst could not get much going consistently against Augie.  I would say in the last 4-5 years Elmhurst has been right there with AC and just has fell short a couple of times.  I do think tomorrow's game is going to be close.

13-3? 17-7?

14-4  :P ::)

I didn't think it really mattered that much.  While at work I don't have time to fully qualify every single post.

I believe Augie is about 10 point better than Elmhurst.  Since Augie has a strong defense and is still trying to define their identity on offense, I believe this will be a lower scoring game.

I was thinking something in the order of 20-10.

No, I just know there's a difference between a 13-3 game and a 40-30 game. :)

Gee, I didn't think a view would generate this much point predict.  :P  My point here was that in the 80's and 90's Augie was 25-40 points better than Elmhurst and the scores were pretty lopsided.
Lately, Elmhurst been in the fight and just hasn't been able to seal the deal. Fair enough Augie might be 7-10 points better at the moment,  but I like those odds going into a game at home.  7-10 points IMO, is the difference on execution and turnovers.
Funny that you mention the Augie D because that is really what I am going to be watching tomorrow (as a major factor),  which is uncharacteristic of Augie because in past years the Vikings' offense was what was unstoppable on the Wing-T.

I know I am in the Minority on this but I actually think Elmhurst will win this game. I think there offense is better than last year, O-line, running back, recievers, and better QB play. I also think that with Augie's phillosophy change on offense that it gives there opponents more possesions. I also believe that our defense is better up front. The jury is still out on the safety play. Just my slightly blue tinted view ;D ;D

do they still have ties?  ;D  (I've got a silk one from Thailand).

Shirley you jest.

I wish the Bluejays well - its about time that Augustana returned to those thrilling years of the fifties when they were the dog meat of the old CCI (but unfortunately, even back then), two touchdowns better than Elmhurst.

Pat:

Just surfing the boards here, so my apologies for jumping in the middle of this particular discussion (of which, I have no vested interest/opinion with regard to the outcome of the particular game being discussed ;D :D).  Anyway, I was just curious as to your opinions regarding the score margins you mention.  To be sure, there can be a difference between a 13-3 game and a 40-30 game, although I would offer that is not always true.  Obviously, it all depends on how a particular game's action has taken place.  Any of these could represent a blow-out or a very close game or a "mop-up" at the end of the game (you know, when one team has blown out the other the entire game and the losing team scores on the winning team's reserves near the end to make it "appear close").  Just some additional thoughts to throw in here. ;D
