I've kinda kept quite about the game last Saturday.  For 1 reason I believe that the redmen gave this one away.  I do not mean any disrespect to Elmhurst, because they hung on long enough to let Carthage hang themselves and played well enough to win.  Carthage is all these things that people have been saying, good enough to beat anyone, but killing themselves.  In my humble and very biased opinion, they are a young team that is making young mistakes (I believe 5 frosh starters on D).  I really believe that things will click for them, just don't know when? Hopefully sooner than later!

As for this weekend, they will have their hands full and better bring their A game.  However, this seams to be a trap game for NCC.  I hope they look past Carthage this weekend and the redmen take advantage of it!  I will pick Carthage in the pick ems because I always do!
HEY NORM, I LOST YOUR HAT! GO REDMEN!!!

How about "Don't kill my karma, I'm a North Central grad!"?

Obviously that wouldn't work for USee, but it would for me!

I can speak from experience that, typically, Coach Thorne doesn't allow his teams to look past anyone.  Every opponent from Wheaton to Benedictine are taken equally as serious and practice is not altered from one week to the next.  I know that it's the kids who would be doing the looking past, but I've found as a coach for these last couple of years that the way that the players practice and play usually reflect the coaches'' attitudes throughout the week.
That being said, as I stated before, Carthage flat out scares me with their potential to put up huge points if they simply eliminate mistakes.  NCC's defense does have the ability to shut them down, but will have to be on their game.  Also, I think that NCC will attempt to control the clock with some solid work on the ground with Sulo and Fanthorpe running to keep the ball out of the hands of that offense.
I think that the Carthage O puts on a bit of a firework show, but not mistake free.  The Redmen O leaving a short field or 2 could be the difference in this one.  Cards on top 38-21.

How is Carthage's D-line? Are they big boys built to take on blocks to free the LBs? Or are they small quick guys who try to fill gaps and get upfield for themselves?

That's why I come up here!

They are small on the defensive front.

I don't know about their size, perhaps one of the Carthage faithful would better able to answer that quesion than I would, but I have been told that both the D-line and linebacking corps are comprised of mostly underclassmen with a couple of upperclassmen sprinkled in there.

I don't think you can look at the defense stats and really make any conclusions. None of the teams that NCC has played so far would be considered an offensive machine. But I did expect that the NCC defense would be one of the best in the CCIW. The linebackers and defensive backs are solid. The defensive line came into the year as a question only because they have several young and less experienced players. But, we will know by the 25th how good the NCC defense is.

It could be a long day, in any case, if it becomes a shootout and each team throws up 60 passes. I prefer to see Sulo rush for over 100 and control the clock, and give the Carthage offense fewer opportunities.

If you look at the statistics so far this season, one would think that it is going to be long day for Carthage this Saturday in Naperville.

Well then the +k that you give doesn't hold as much meaning as one would like! Now, if you only gave negative karma, I would be very....something. I don't know what, but I'm sure I'd be something. Grateful? Happy? Willing to do anything for money?

Appreciate the quick answer, you would think this would make it easier for the Cards to run the ball if they want to play clock control.

I, for one, would like to see them do what they have done to get to this point. Play their game and make Carthage match them, don't try to pound the ball and run the clock, if you think you're the better team then dictate the game your way. Does that make sense?
