What a game!!!!  Cards completely dominated the first half of play.  Wenger is a beast and Fanthorpe is the man!  The Cardinal O and D lines stepped up and really took control of this game early.  I was worried when Wheaton came right down the field and scored to start the 2nd half.  The scoreboard at Wheaton is awesome.  Did it seem like the Wheaton crowd was rather sparse?  NC fans filled the visiting bleachers plus the smaller bleachers on the home side and lined the West end zone.  Great turnout by the Cardinal faithful!  Way to go Cards!

Regarding the crowd.  Where I was sitting there were people sitting in the isles.  It seemed packed to me.

I'm with you, Mugsy. The crowd on the home side looked sparse just before the game. But at game time, the stands were packed.

Great atmosphere tonight. I really enjoyed my spot in the Wheaton stands at the very top of the west side.

And Goulet was in the home stand. ;)

Congratulations to the #2 ranked North Central Cardinals!!!! You guys earned it, now keep it going!

NCC absolutely dominated wheaten on all three aspects of the game. Ittersigan(sp) was obsolete. For the exception of a few break downs in the secondary NC played a nearly perfect game. Shut down the run, applied pressure, created turnovers, and moved the ball up and down the field scoring 40+. Very impressed by the win. Janecek & Treglown came up with huge plays on defense the whole game. Fanthorpe looked crisp and kept his composure regardless of the 6'4 260 d-line hitting him every play.

On the way to the game I was listening to the broadcast on the radio.... not so good... broadcast kept coming in and out, announcers were terrible, announcing players on NC names wrong. One comment they made " a fade route is a jump ball".... was VERY disappointed in the "award winning" north central radio...

Keep it up Cards... all the way to Salam...

I have a feeling it is going to get very, very RED in here.

New NCC posters coming out of the wood work, thumping their chests already.   :-\ >:(

Please...  ???  Ittersagen obsolete?  Name a team in the CCIW who wouldn't take him in a heart beat.

Not sure what game you were looking at, but Fanthorpe was not getting hit every play.  I'll agree Fanthorpe looked crisp, but the pressure on him could have been much, much better.  I believe it was one of the keys to the game (along with virtually everyone else).  The NCC lines controlled the game on both sides of the ball.

I agree Mugsy. I actually think the kicking game was a draw. No real big plays either way. Also, if you look at the stats, the passing game isn't that different. The Turnovers and sacks were the big problem and that was from NCC dominating the LOS on both sides. Ittersagen was the same factor he is in every game...don't throw to his guy. He didn't miss any tackles and the INT he made was pretty awesome.

The cards will need to figure out how to play this way the rest of the season. They are very good but I can tell you this team will need to get healthy and play just as well to keep it respectable against a team like Mt Union.

Something that I did not realize about the Bell game on Saturday:

It was "the first Cardinal victory at Wheaton since North Central won a 27-22 contest in 1982."  Wow!

I remember watching that game in 1982.  My brother was a LB for Wheaton then...

Ittersagen did have one misplay in the first quarter.  He should have had an inteception.  In fact he was in perfect position and I was absolutely amazed he did not pick it off.  It was on a deeper slant where he was right on the inside hip of the WR.  Somehow it went through his hands or the WR stole it from him.

It could have swayed momentum, but only for a bit.  NCC was a better team.

What happened to NPU? I was soooo disappointed with the outcome of their game vs. Millikin.

NPU is just plain worn out. I counted fourteen players standing on the sidelines in street clothes on Saturday afternoon. Attrition is a part of football, but when a team starts out the season with no depth, injuries hit a team that much harder. NPU was essentially playing Millikin even in the middle of the second quarter (NPU 8, MU 7), but then stalwart DT Luke Estes was knocked out of the game with an ankle injury. Immediately the Big Blue began running the ball right up the middle, and the Vikings proved incapable of stopping them. In the blink of an eye Millikin scored three touchdowns, went into halftime with a 28-8 lead, and that was all she wrote.

The Vikings are giving it all they've got, but they're running on fumes at this point. A lot of the better talent on both sides of the ball has now been knocked out of the lineup for the season, with nothing substantial left to replace it, and the loss of Estes -- who was playing at an All-CCIW-caliber level -- is catastrophic. I'm afraid that the final three games against Augustana, Carthage, and Illinois Wesleyan will be very, very ugly, and I cringe to think of what those final scores will look like.

That's a shame.   :( They were playing pretty well.

wow, I bit feisty are we... I was watching the same game as you, "hitting him every play" is just a saying, he obviously wasn't getting hit EVERY play, there were several times after the ball was thrown where he was hit and still made great throws.

Ittersagen... 5 solo, 2 asst... for a pre-season POY in all of D3football. I'd say thats pretty obsolete. 1 punt return for 0 yrds... 3 KR for 60yds.... all pretty average no matter what program you play for. Ittersagen is a great player... just not this past week... truth hurts... sorry
