Do feel what?  A 1999 debacle 22-16 which halted Wheaton's big year and doused their playoff hopes?  :P ;D

I don't know who this "Mount Union" team is, but they can't be better than North Central.
You win! You always do!

Mugsy,

You were right. Jaybird played the 1999 card right on cue. I owe you 1$

Hey we haven't had a whole lot to be happy about with regards to Elmhurst/Wheaton in awhile, so yes being on that 22-16 team really is one of my greater EC football memories.  We rang the Langhorst bell so often (course we had some adult apple juice in us) campus security escorted us back to our dorms.

I didn't realize that it had been since 1982 that NC beat Wheaton in Wheaton.  Gosh, 1982  E.T. was big at the show, Phantom of the Opera was the top Musical, the Cardinals defeated the Brewers in the World Series, and Augie was just starting their Nat'l Title years.

JB is changing the subject. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Last week after the game, when NCC was on the field celebrating with the bell, I honestly started thinking that if this was Elmhurst JB would be ringing that damn victory bell - with or without adult apple juice.

Which one's the punchline, R04IMD? "Where is the john?" or "Where is the love?" They both work!

Quote from: REDMAN04 IS MY DADDY! on October 29, 2008, 04:31:43 AMOn the defensive side, there is also only one player from North Park to have ever won the award, Fed Battaglia in 1981.

Also known to his friends as "Fred". ;)

too funny... thanks for this.

Only a couple more weeks until you get your profile name back...   :P

Ha, nice.  Speaking of which, where is Redman04?  I want to make another bet...

A final comment.  I wasn't implying that NCC was running up the score.  I was asking if there is bad blood between the programs.  I'm new to this rivalry and was trying to understand in context the play calling that was occurring.  It seemed a little one sided for passing until the last drive.  That seemed to me to be the riskier approach to ensuring a win.  NCC was successful and played better ball.  Thanks for the discussion.

I am relatively new to this clash with NCC and Wheaton, so I wondered if the coaching staff carry the rivalry as far as the fans.  I was very surprised to watch the play calling, particularly in the late 3rd and entire 4th quarter from NCC.  It seemed there was a desire to run up the score instead of shortening the game and winning comfortably.

I'm not sure how you determined that North Central was running up the score.

The score was 23-0 at halftime. Wheaton scored quickly at the start of the 3rd quarter. NCC came back up a score, and added another touchdown after  a Wheaton turnover to take a 37-7 lead.

Next, Wheaton scored two quick TDs to get within 16 points - that's two scores. If NCC does nothing, Wheaton could have made it a one score lead.

On the last TD drive, NCC began at their 36 yard line with 9:17 to play. The drive consisted on 12 plays  and consumed 6 minutes and 29 seconds - 10 running plays and 2 passing plays. The TD pass was on a 4th and 8 from the Wheaton 25 (the other pass on the drive was incomplete). They weren't exactly throwing the ball all over the field.

Not to mention what happened the past two seasons... I'm convinced Wheaton is always a threat to come back.

Regional Rankings-- Is there a reason why the UW schools are back in the west? Are they going to stay there? I'd like to see the CCIW schools stay away from Mt. Union early.... maybe a NC Wheaten rematch...

As long as you don't picture the same two old guys sharing a newspaper blanket in a cameo appearance in "Coming to America"...   :-[

From my perspective... I would not categorize it as "bad blood."  It is a very, very intense rivalry - all the more so now that it has had CCIW title implications.  It is definitely a game that is always circled on the calendar, regardless of respective records of the team.  While extremely intense, I've never felt it to be full of animosity or utter distain - which usually leads to foul play and extra hits after the whistle, etc...  There has always been a sense of respect.

Most of the banter here during bell week is good natured - unless I'm completely misreading things.

I don't know... perhaps someone from the Naperville school, which has only won 4 of the last 22 meetings has a different perspective?   ::) :P
