Not to mention what happened the past two seasons... I'm convinced Wheaton is always a threat to come back.

orsky, in case you are wondering what is meant by the above.  In the 2 previous NCC/Wheaton games (prior to last Saturday), NCC significantly outplayed Wheaton in the first half, only to have Wheaton turn the tables even more so in the second half to pull out a win.  That is why despite leading 23-0 on Saturday, there was still some trepidation by NCC faithful and why Coach Thorne did not ease off the gas at all.  I don't think NCC was running up the score at all.  I believe Coach Thorne wanted to maintain the agressive play calling to avoid any possibility of let down.

It was for this reason that I was exceptionally worried when Wheaton took the ball right down the field at the start of the second half.

They're always ranked in the West. But since the NCAA playoff field isn't a guaranteed eight teams from each region, sometimes teams end up in brackets other than the ones with most of their regional foes.

I've never felt it to be full of animosity or utter distain - which usually leads to foul play and extra hits after the whistle, etc...

Nah, that is saved for Green Weenie week!!   8)

A final comment.  I wasn't implying that NCC was running up the score.  I was asking if there is bad blood between the programs.  I'm new to this rivalry and was trying to understand in context the play calling that was occurring.  It seemed a little one sided for passing until the last drive.  That seemed to me to be the riskier approach to ensuring a win.  NCC was successful and played better ball.  Thanks for the discussion.

I don't know... perhaps someone from the Naperville school, which has only won 4 of the last 22 meetings has a different perspective?   ::) :P

sorry I couldn't really focus on what I was reading, I've had this ringing in my ear since saturday  :P

As soon as they scored in that opening drive in the second half, the guys around me where the same way... "here we go again"

Looks like Robert Goulet has adopted the motto for the U.S. Third Army in WWII that General Patton in turn adopted from Frederick the Great, L'audace, l'audace, toujours l'audace! ("Audacity, audacity, always audacity!").

Walking past the Naperville school team room at half time I heard a coach who wasn't too pleased with his offense not scoring touchdowns on those turnovers.
I expected high fives and good natured banter not silence and an irate coach.
Tells me they were not content with their play.

I expect Adrian to move up in the region and Trine to disappear in two weeks.
Don't expect Otterbin, Wabash or  CWR to drop either.  What are the chances if Wheaton moves up to 6th  for them to grab an at large bid if the red bird school wins out?

Otterbin, Wabash and CWR all seem to be solid teams who have at least done well and have played well against good opponents and crushed the "cupcakes".
Trine seems to have struggled against same opponents that Adrian and Albion have handled.  Trine has yet to play Adrian at Adrian and Albion at home.
Otterbin of course has yet to play MU and Wabash and CWR should win out.  That's why I don't see them leaving the rankings.
