If wheaton wins out and finishes at 9-1 it is alost a certainty they will make the playoffs. They are not an AQ candidate at this point (barring an ncc letdown) but are a solid pool C choice if they winout.

Agreed.

Wheaton should feel pretty good about their chances.  Especially since this conference has been very unpredictable come the end of the season over the past few years.

What goes around comes around, eh?  So Wheaton loses the last 2 games last year to lose the CCIW championship... this year it is NCC turn?   ;D

Unfortunately I don't see that happening...  NCC is in a much better position than Wheaton was in last year with 3 weeks to go.

NCC O-line and Wenger featured as part of the CCIW team of the week-

North Central College's football team's victory at Wheaton College on Saturday has yielded individual honors from D3football.com, as this week's 'Team of the Week' featured Cardinals at a pair of positions.

The North Central offensive line, consisting of starters Zach Baldacci (Jr., Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), Jeremy Shaub (So., Lockport, Ill./Lockport), Mike Larson (Sr., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way Central), Kyle Antos (So., Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South), and Josh Delancy (Jr., Stuart, Fla./Jensen Beach), was so honored for the second time this season, as was linebacker Matt Wenger (Jr., Davis, Ill./Dakota).

The Cardinals' offensive line paved the way for a total of 451 yards gained in the 44-21 victory over the Thunder, and did not allow a quarterback sack. North Central was limited to negative yardage on just four plays the entire game.

Wenger, meanwhile, led the Cardinals in tackles for the seventh straight game, amassing nine total stops (five solo). He also turned in 3.5 tackles for loss, including two quarterback sacks, and forced a fumble which led to the first North Central score of the evening.

A final comment.  I wasn't implying that NCC was running up the score.  I was asking if there is bad blood between the programs.  I'm new to this rivalry and was trying to understand in context the play calling that was occurring.  It seemed a little one sided for passing until the last drive.  That seemed to me to be the riskier approach to ensuring a win.  NCC was successful and played better ball.  Thanks for the discussion.

I don't know... perhaps someone from the Naperville school, which has only won 4 of the last 22 meetings has a different perspective?   ::) :P

sorry I couldn't really focus on what I was reading, I've had this ringing in my ear since saturday  :P

Oh boy... now Blitz Creed is fitting in just fine with the redbird world.  Just what we need, another smart alec.    ::)

I remember the days when it was just Cardalum and I.....ahhh......memories.

If you North Central guys don't mind me asking, what is a "blitz creed", anyway? I went to seminary, and I don't remember studying any creeds that involve linebackers rushing the quarterback. Given NCC's religious affiliation, perhaps it's a United Methodist thing that they want to conceal from outsiders, like Mormons and their magic underwear. ;)

Now Greg I could be wrong but I believe this theory comes from the frist book of Ramones, where he said:

That's "blitzkrieg", not "blitz creed". But quoting one of my favorite songs ("Blitzkrieg Bop" by the Ramones, for all of you unbelievers out there) and naming yourself after one of my favorite beers (Goose Island Matilda, anyone?) puts you right up at the top of my "This Guy Is Cool" list, my friend.

Well, I am not sure what Elmhurst has to do to pull out a victory ( yes I know, " score more points than the other team") but I do know to have achance they need 0 turnovers and not many more penalties than that to have a chance to win. That being said. Stranger things have happened                                                                                                                                    Go Bluejays

I think Elmhurst's defense has been very disruptive at times this season. If they can do that to Wheaton's offense and force them into turnovers that result in points, they will have a good chance. They need to put the pressure on the Wheaton Offense, however, because if Wheaton gets out to a lead, it will be very hard for Elmhurst to play catch up against this defense IMO.

The last 5 years Elmhurst has been able to compete (hang in there- not necessarily win)  against virtually every team EXCEPT Wheaton.  We just haven't played well against Swider & Co. especially at their place.

As Usee points out,  Elmhurst's D-Line and Linebackers have to be the lifelink and give the offense opportunities.

Wheaton will be w/o one of their key senior defensemen Sat. and for rest of season.   Sounds a little familiar to last year.

Except they are not missing 7-10 other starters as well, like last year...

Mention of a game 60 years ago...

One of the featured groups to be announced at halftime is the Eastern team that 60 years ago went 7-3 and played in the postseason Corn Bowl game.

The accomplishments included the sweep through Illinois, beating Western, Northern Illinois State and Southern.

After a 38-0 rout over Southern Illinois to end the regular season, the Panthers lost 6-0 to Illinois Wesleyan in the Corn Bowl.

"Wesleyan played a better schedule than they play now," said Ed Buchanan, a backup noseguard for the 1948 team. "They were a good team but we played them the week after Thanksgiving and it was cold as blazes. That's no excuse. They played in it too. But it was mostly a defensive game."

Q,

you forgot to mention how that game will spur the Titans on to victory in Naperville this weekend! JBird would have been proud if you did.

I do believe there needs to be some discussion on a statute of limitations on mentioning past wins.......

The Titans may need more than memories of the ole Corn Bowl tomorrow in Naperville.
