How are the regional rankings done? Do the same peple who give the pool c bids make them and do they use the same criteria?

The same criteria are used, but regional rankings are by regional committes, selection is by a national committee.  Since they are different committee they may weigh the criteria somewhat differently.

Here's the PC version!!

Frequently Asked Question 25. How are the at-large bids determined?
Posted On
Oct 18, 2004 at 12:00 AM  These are the selection (and seeding) criteria for 2007:
The following primary criteria (not in priority order) will be reviewed:
• Win-loss percentage against regional opponents.
• Strength-of-schedule (only contests versus regional competition).
- Opponents' Average Winning Percentage (OWP).
- Opponents' Opponents' Average Winning Percentage (OOWP).
• In-region head-to-head competition.
• In-region results versus common regional opponents.
• In-region results versus regionally ranked teams.
If the evaluation of the primary criteria does not result in a decision by the committee, the following secondary criteria (for ranking and selections) will be evaluated:
• Out-of region head-to-head competition.
• Overall Division III won-loss percentage.
• Results versus common non-Division III opponents.
• Results versus all Division III ranked teams.
• Overall win-loss percentage.
• Results versus all common opponents.
• Overall Division III strength of schedule
• Should a committee find that evaluation of a team's win-loss percentage during the last 25 percent of the season is applicable (i.e., end of season performance), it may adopt such criteria with approval from the championships committee.
Additionally, input is provided by regional advisory committees for consideration by the Division III football committee. In order to be considered for selection for Pools B or C, an institution must play at least 50 percent of its competition against Division III in-region opponents. Coaches' polls and/or any other outside polls or rankings are not used as a selection criterion by the football committee for selection purposes.

So if the season ended today and someone in the regional rankings might not be picked by the national committee?

Not quite.  After the games of the 15th, the regional committees make final rankings (which we, alas, will never see).  The highest-ranked non-AQ team in each region then gets the first 'seat at the table'.  Once the national committee selects one of these four (the North, let's say), that team is replaced by the next highest eligible team in the North.  So if you're not ranked regionally, you can't ever reach the table (BUT, the final rankings consist of more than 10 teams in each region).  There is no set number of pool C teams by region (theoretically all six could be from the North, though it usually balances out fairly evenly).

At least that is the process in bball; pretty sure fball is the same.

I was looking through the cciw game notes for the week and I would not be surprised at all if Wright is the CCIW DPOY or at least the co... leads the conference in Tackles, Sacks, and TFL. That is VERY impressive.

Take a look at who is tied for the conference lead in sacks AND interceptions and is second in tackles and 3rd in TFL and you see that Wenger and ONLY Wenger is clearly the DPOY!

I'm just saying do not be surprised if there is a co-dpoy.... remember a few years ago when radtke was a lock and the auggie db was honored instead.... also in all fairness Wright is not 2nd and 3rd in some categories but 1st in everyone.

I have never seen the kid play so I'm only going off of statistics, I'll be keeping a close eye on him next week. Should be a good showdown for both teams and the deciding factor on who is the best LB in the conference.

I was at the NC game this past week, had to see a #2 ranked team play, I would take Wenger over Wright. Wenger just seems to have something extra. Wright looked more athletic to me, but Wenger just has "IT". Cant quite put my finger on it. He seems more heady, and he hits like a Mack truck. Just one mans opinion

Seriously... the marquee with huge scrolling text is quite annoying as you are trying to ready a post.  Particularly when several posts in a row have it.  Personally I don't mind a marquee, as posters like CardinalAlum have had one for over a year.  But when it overpowers the actual content of a post... >:(

Right up there with typing in all caps, all the time.

In regards to Pool C there is a thread on the 'general football' board that discusses the possibilities but Mr Ypsi did a good job of explaning the procedure. It is the same for fball as for bball. Basically, if you aren't the highest rated pool C in your region your chances of making the post season are very slim. That means Otterbein is the likely Pool C from North if all the favorites win out. NCC would be a candidate if they drop 1 of the next 2. And Trine could be in the picture if they get beat by Yo-Adrian this weekend. Augie and elmhurst are toast for Pool C without divine intervention.

As for the arguement on DPOY--there is one scenario that may result in a co-dpoy. If elmhurst beats NCC and Wright is a big factor it could happen. Short of that you can go to the bank there will be 1 DPOY and it will be Wenger. They are going to vote for the best player on the best team with the best defense. You can guarantee that with 99% certainty looking back through time. If NCC drops a game or 2 down the stretch then there is a chance for someone else. I have also seen both Wright and Wenger and watched them closely in both contests. Wright does not fight off straight ahead blocks very well but does a great job against pass blockers off the edge. He is also very fast like wenger and great instincts. I think Wenger is playing at another level right now and and Wright is the best of the rest. Wright is better now than Wenger was as a sophomore last year, which is a scary thought for the rest of the league.

3 CCIW players received player of the week for D3football.com this week.

D'Angelo - Elmhurst
Wenger - NCC
Pucylowski -NCC

The conference has been well represented this year.  I think that has alot to do with SID's turning in more nominations?
