I remember a few weeks ago comparing Lenny Radtke to Matt Wenger and one thing I said was that Lenny was better in pass coverage....

After watching the last 4 weeks, it is very apparent how good Wenger is playing the pass after he lead the conference in interceptions and has been all over the place tipping balls left and right.

Wenger is a stud, a great overall linebacker that can do anything, no questions asked.

I think he locked up the Conference defensive player of the year today, and is arguably one of the best linebackers in Division 3.

I agree.

I don't know if anyone one else got a good view of it but Wenger's hit today on the Elmhurst punter was probably the hardest hit that I have ever seen in D3 football.

Any chance that North Central gets moved West?

I know you won't care USee (although you should), but the Wheaton women's soccer team made the Sweet 16 today with a PK win over UW Eau Claire.

The strength with which Wheaton played today was impressive.  I wasn't there, but I'll bet there was a lot of confidence on the sidelines and on the field.  Wow, do I wish that we could bottle that stuff and save it for our next game with the Blue Jays!

Don't think so anymore.  With Wabash and Cortland losing, NCC sits as a clear #1 in the North with MUC going East.   ;D

ok, Carthage threw the ball 73 times today. I thought that was a huge amount and now I see Elmhurst threw it 70 times. WOW. that's a lot of passing.

Wheaton wins 51-24.
They run for 242 yds and pass for 305.
Norris was 12-16 284 yds 4 TD's.
Pokorny 6 catches for 183 yds 2 TD's
Ging 21 carries for 98 yds
Hershey 13 carries for 110
547 total yds offense for Wheaton.

They are kicking themselves in Wheaton for losing to Elmhurst.

Yea not exactly a sterling performance from the Red Men yesterday.  I was hoping we could have stayed within 1 or 2 scores, but we lost several starters to injury and played with a lot of guys deep on the depth chart on both sides of the ball.  We just didn't seem fired up for the game.

Usee failed to mention the Wheaton D held us to just 19 yds rushing so that is why we threw 73 times.  I was quite surprised we were able to put up 465 passing yds.  I don't think Ittersagen had his best day missing several tackles and dropping a sure pick 6.  Not sure the pass interference call against him was legit, it looked like a pretty good play but it might have been a make up for a horrible call against us earlier.  Gingg is as my son put it "a load" he is going to be really really good.

Yesterday was my son's last game and it was a very emotional day.  It is funny because after 2 years at Carthage the announcer never pronounced our last name correctly and he came up with a new pronounciation yesterday that gave us a laugh over our tears.  12 years of football is over and it is time for him to move on to the next chapter in his life.  Its been a lot of fun, we've had lots of wins and losses, lots of ups and downs, but win or lose, we have always been proud of him for his dedication, devotion and hard work that he put in 12 months a year just for the love of the game.  He battled through sprains, fractures, contusions, concussions and torn ligaments and never gave up or gave less than 110%.  I know all of you in the same situation are thinking the same thing about your sons and I congratulate all of you and your sons on their football careers and wish them the most heartfelt success and best wishes as they move on in their lives.

The NCC team should be sending "thank you" cards to Ithaca.  It's a lock now that MUC heads east and NCC hosts the north.

Congrats!  Now make sure you take care of business and win it.

Carthage fan,

Thanks for your post. You have much to be proud of and even more to remember. Your son was a stud and I am sure it was a pleasure to watch him play. It is a reminder to us all what this game is about.

I agree w HSC. NCC has as good a path to Salem as a North team has had since Augie in the 80's. This is an opportunity to show the nation why the CCIW is a strong conference.

If anyone has an interest, don't forget to post your picks in the CCIW pickem for basketball. Games start today.

And don't forget to visit the women's soccer board for riveting discussion of the final 16. Go Thunder.   :P ;D

I understand your point, however ...

North Central doesn't need to send thank yous to anybody. For ten weeks, they took the field and came back with a W. When teams throughout D3 were stumbling on the last weekend, North Central completed the mission to finish 10-0. The earned and deserved a high seed, whether it was going to be a 1 or 2 and regardless of which region it would be.

North Central is the second ranked team in D3, they are the CCIW Champions, they will be making their fourth consecutive appearance in the D3 Playoffs, and they will be hosting a playoff game on Saturday.

All 32 teams in the playoffs are quality teams. There are no easy games, and it takes five wins.

This Saturday, North Central should walk into Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium with a swagger, whoever their opponent is, since they have shown for ten weeks that they are one of the top teams in D3 Football.

Nothing against Ithaca. After all, the Ithaca track coach is an NCC Alum (and a great guy).

After looking at the numbers I actually think Wheaton has very similar numbers to the 2 loss teams that will be considered. Their owp is similar to depauw and wooster and better than montclair. Their oowp is better than all of them by a wide margin. Montclair and depauw win by virtue of wins over regionally ranked opponents. But I think wheaton is a stronger team than wooster on the numbers.

That play was interesting.  Elmhurst was facing a 4th and Long with like 3 min to go in the game.  They faked the punt and converted in the order of a 50 yrd TD pass.  Flag, illegal man downfield.  The very next play which is like 4th and 15 they run another fake punt and also pick up the 1st down...even though Wenger murdered the punter on the play.

Two things stand out to me.

1.  Great call by Lester, he defintely has some cojones.

2.  What the hell is NCC doing not being in a safe return coverage?

The more I have though about yesterday's game, the more nervous I am becoming about the playoffs.  The team I watched yesterday was not the #2 team in the Nation and not the #1 seed in whatever region they are going to host.
