Congratulations to Dominick Sulo for being a finalist for the Gagliardi award.

Congrats, Dom!  Don't forget to vote for him!

Does anyone find it strange that Mt. Union RB Nate Kmic was not a finalist in POY, he rushed for double of what Sulo did (not taking anything away from Sulo)? I think its disappointing that a player of that caliber that breaks all these NCAA records doesn't get rewarded his senior year.

Also, Sulo in the West region... might help him when it comes down to the 4 regional finalist.

There can only be 1 nominee from each school. Mt Union had to choose between Micheli and Kmic.

HScoach

And while Kmic has good grades in business administration and does plenty around the community, Micheli is an academic all-american with a double major in physics and math.

I agree that it seems out of place with Kmic not being a finalist, but Micheli's grades made the difference on which player got the nomination.  I would have loved to been a fly on the wall during those discussions at Mount when it was being decided which guy got it.   I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

I voted for Sulo.

FYI- there are the IHSA HS State Playoff games this weekend.  Many of the siblings of the CCIW players will be in action this weekend.  And, possibly future CCIWsters.

I saw Grant last Saturday leaving the tent at NCC where they had a pregame barbecue/tailgate. I soon realized why he had left so early. There was still plenty of food but they had run out of beer!

I don't see Maine South or ESL losing this weekend.

Is there anyone of note on any of the teams competing this weekend (other than ESL, I would guess) who one may expect ends up at a CCIW school?

This weekend's game in Naperville should have a lot of scoring. I posted most of my thoughts on the HCAC board but in short I would expect this to be a high scoring affair with NCC winning by 10+. Rupp will be the best qb NCC has faced and he has 4+ recievers he distributes to regularly. NCC's pretty vanilla cover 2 will be easy target practice for Rupp and co. I do think NCC will get some stops througout the course of the game and limit the damage Rupp is able to do.

The bigger question is what will Franklin do to stop NCC and co. IF Trine scored 30 points on Franklin and Wheaton just shut out Trine, what will NCC's offens do to Franklin? That's the key to the game. I don' t expect Franklin to be able to run the ball and if NCC can eat the clock and score at will with long drives, Franklin won't have a chance. Franklin has 1 DE that is the defensive player of the year, 11.5 sacks and 14+ TFL. they will need to contain him but other than that it will be a shootout.

NCC wins 51-28

I'm predicting a 48-35 NCC win. Rupp will have a big game, but NCC's D will get enough stops to win without much drama.

Interesting (at least I thought so) topic brought up over on the OAC board about Mt. Union's non-conference opponents and who some people would like to see them play...possible teams that could MAYBE give them a competetive game.

Anyone know if there has been discussions as to who it will be in 2010/11?  I am guessing that won't come together until sometime next year, but I was just curious.

I vote for SJU (heard they really aren't interested), Wabash, Wesley, or maybe NCC (I LOVE Chicago).

As I posted over there, I would love to see NCC play MUC in a home-at-home, just to see how they NCC stacks up to the best of the best....and also to get a look at the juggernaut that is MUC.

Be careful what you wish for. You may get a chance to see exactly how NCC stacks up. Having been to Alliance 5x, I have a pretty good idea how the movie ends.

Overheard someone, (NCC player's parent), say that their quarterback broke his wrist during practice?  I thot
there was a similar injury earlier in year to Fanthorpe.   Maybe it was rehashing old news or if he reaggravated it.    That sure would be a shame if he can't battle it out with Rupp on Sat.

I would highly doubt the validity of this given the timing. Most teams don't practice on Monday and Tuesday practice hasn't happened yet so don't know when this may have happened. Sounds like bad info.

I was actually thinking that as I was texting a few people to try and get info, so here's hoping that it is bad info.

My niece has a class with him and said there was no cast on his arm during their exam this morning. Also, here brother is in the recruiting process and told me IWU will be getting field turf for next year.

I believe this is Finals week at NCC - they are on a quarters system. So, if your niece had a class with Fanthorpe, it was likely a final exam.

In any case, Aaron has had quite a year. He still managed to be All Conference and OPOY even with all the real and imaginary injuries and illnesses. I think that he's scheduled for an organ transplant next week. The players have to be laughing at all the crazy stories that surround their QB.

GRIZ_BACKER

Having been to all the FC games this year (including last week), I can offer this:  The Trine game/score is a bit misleading.  FC did not play well that day.  FC had five turnovers (a muffed kick-off and a muffed punt coupled with a fumble on their own ten) along with several 3rd and long situation where they let Trine continue drives.

FC struggled in the first few games on defense. No argument here.  Also in the Trine game they lost their top linebacker for the season (last seconds of the first half). Subsequently, FC has been trending better on defense.  Last week they were solid against a good running team and a good running QB. Otterbein was a solid team.

That all said, NCC has and advantage due to return trip to playoffs, solid run/QB, and playing at home. etc.  However FC was not given much chance last week.  62 against a solid OAC squad speaks for itself.  Overall I agree with you but if FC can find a way to slow the QB run and keep NCC honest on the run, I like FC's chances.  Should be fun.  We are driving up in the am and expect a shoot-out.  Last week's game was a blast.

NCC is actually on Trimesters.

Good to hear that he's only victim of an imaginary injury!
