I voted for Sulo.
New Tradition- you the same and hope you eat lots of turkey!
FYI- there are the IHSA HS State Playoff games this weekend.  Many of the siblings of the CCIW players will be in action this weekend.  And, possibly future CCIWsters.

NCC grad that I played with is the head coach of the Concord-Triopia team that is in the 1A state championship game!!  Good luck to them!  I am making the quick trip down to Champaign and back for that.

Interesting (at least I thought so) topic brought up over on the OAC board about Mt. Union's non-conference opponents and who some people would like to see them play...possible teams that could MAYBE give them a competetive game.

Anyone know if there has been discussions as to who it will be in 2010/11?  I am guessing that won't come together until sometime next year, but I was just curious.

I vote for SJU (heard they really aren't interested), Wabash, Wesley, or maybe NCC (I LOVE Chicago).

As I posted over there, I would love to see NCC play MUC in a home-at-home, just to see how they NCC stacks up to the best of the best....and also to get a look at the juggernaut that is MUC.

Be careful what you wish for. You may get a chance to see exactly how NCC stacks up. Having been to Alliance 5x, I have a pretty good idea how the movie ends.

It's fine if the movie ends that way, but you never know how far you have to climb to reach the top until you actually see the mountain face to face!
You win! You always do!

I hate those movies with the tragic endings!!   :)

Leave it to the NCAA to screw up the pairings.  NCC being the number 2 ranked team in the nation should not ( assuming they keep winning) meet Mount Union until the finals.  Keeping in mind NCC started the season ranked 15 look for them to keep on winnning all the way to Salem

Overheard someone, (NCC player's parent), say that their quarterback broke his wrist during practice?  I thot
there was a similar injury earlier in year to Fanthorpe.   Maybe it was rehashing old news or if he reaggravated it.    That sure would be a shame if he can't battle it out with Rupp on Sat.

I would highly doubt the validity of this given the timing. Most teams don't practice on Monday and Tuesday practice hasn't happened yet so don't know when this may have happened. Sounds like bad info.

I was actually thinking that as I was texting a few people to try and get info, so here's hoping that it is bad info.
My niece has a class with him and said there was no cast on his arm during their exam this morning. Also, here brother is in the recruiting process and told me IWU will be getting field turf for next year.

I believe this is Finals week at NCC - they are on a quarters system. So, if your niece had a class with Fanthorpe, it was likely a final exam.

In any case, Aaron has had quite a year. He still managed to be All Conference and OPOY even with all the real and imaginary injuries and illnesses. I think that he's scheduled for an organ transplant next week. The players have to be laughing at all the crazy stories that surround their QB.

NCC is actually on Trimesters.

Good to hear that he's only victim of an imaginary injury!

My father's cousin's sister's daughter's former roommate saw Rupp on Franklin's campus and said that he is walking around campus wearing Nike's....he normally wears Addidas.  I'll keep everyone posted if any other breaking news stories come down the grapevine.

Welcome to the board TCrawf. Nice little splash you made. Just to clarify, the NCAA does not (and isn't allowed to) look at rankings when determining seeds for the playoffs. So NCC's #2 ranking in D3Football.com is nice, but its meaningless when it comes to the NCAA's playoff brackets.  ::)

Welcome, but be careful driving tonight in that condition!! ;D  There is WAY too much football left to be played to even mention the S word!  I agree with USee that this is a huge task for the beloved Cards.  I'm sure Franklin wants to come in here and do exactly what we did to them last year on their home field!  One week at a time!  Here's to one more week!!  Happy Thanksgiving to all of the regulars on here, visitors, lurkers, players, coaches and most importantly, Bob Meyer!! ::) :P  Can't forget Norm!  Wait, yes I can!! :D

So Cardinal Alum:  what is the prediction from the NCC perspective?

I am thinking (if I have to take the score to vegas):  NCC 45 FC 35  (hard fought but NCC is playoff tested). I was at the game last year and I think NCC is ready for what FC brings to the table.

I would hate to have to be the one to break it to skunks_sidekick that Naperville is a 45-minute drive from downtown Chicago ... and that's normal driving time, not rush hour. Sorta takes some of the fun out of a road trip to see your team play NCC if hanging out in the big city is a key part of your weekend itinerary.

nothing is wrong with fanthropes wrist, he had separated his shoulder against elmhurst but that is all but healed and (if you saw the game) did not bother last week when he took it to TM.

As I posted over there, I would love to see NCC play MUC in a home-at-home, just to see how they NCC stacks up to the best of the best....and also to get a look at the juggernaut that is MUC.

It is a treat to go to Alliance to play MUC.  When Wabash beat Witt in the 2nd rd in '02, a TON of us Wallies made the trip.  We knew it was going to be very difficult to hang with MUC, but like you said, we were all excited to get to Alliance.

It was a cold sunny bright day in Alliance for the quarters between the Little Giants and the Raiders.  The home stands were covered, and I kept thinking I was looking at a horse track.

As the game got underway, it was obvious that Wabash (which had not been to the playoffs since their runner-up performance in 1977) had the jitters.

But we had a very good QB in Jake Knott, who had broken just about every throwing record in the books at Wabash.  During Wabash's first series, Jake perfectly led a crossing receiver.  The defender was left about 5 yards behind him when the receiver cut across the field.  As the ball streaked to the outstretched hands of the receiver, the MUC defender made up those 5 yards in about a second, laid out and grabbed the INT in mid air.

My buddy next to me and I shared a look and shook our heads.  We knew that we were in for a looooooong day.

But it was fun.  We were cheering the whole game, even though MUC rolled to a 45-17 win or something like that.  I remember that Wabash did better vs. MUC score wise than any other team in the playoffs that year.

I also remember noticing a SEAGULL flying over the bright green field against the crisp cold blue sky.  At first, I was perplexed.  SEAGULLS?!?!  But then I realized that I was a long way from Indianapolis (where I live) and I was a LOT closer to Lake Erie that I was the day before.  vbg.

What kills me is that three years later, Wabash hosted Capital as the One Seed in teh North.  MUC, due to a loss early in the season, was the Two Seed.  Beat Capital, and MUC comes to Crawfordsville to play the Little Giants in what would have been their first playoff road game in forever.

Alas, Wabash fell 15-11 that day.  What could have been.

So just have a good D3 attitude of having fun and fair play should you get the opportunity to go to Alliance.  And make sure you go.

We had a great time.  I don't think the MUC fans still know quite what to make of us.  We DO travel VERY WELL, and have the BEST TAILGATE action in the midwest.

If we and you both win this Sat....

you'll see.

I like to think that the state final in 7A was played this past Saturday in Glen Ellyn.  ESL will roll over Geneva like a steamroller.
Glenbard West hung with them the whole game even though they lost their #1 running back in 2nd quartter.
I would look for GW's Cook or Venson, #1 and 2 running backs to do well on next level.  Esp. in DIII.
ESL's front line averages 6 4 and over 280 and they run a spread offense.  They also have a great wide receiver/cornerback who is going to Illinois next year.  He scored 2 touchdowns w/over 100 yards receiving and is actually better on defense.
Maybe GW would have done better in 8A as they already beat Hinsdale Central in regular season. :)
