Perhaps it's an exaggeration that they get no calls, but it is certainly a rarity when any of the close ones go their way.

Refs do not like to be abused.  Watch certain members of our coaching staff some time and see if any referee would ever want to give NCC a break!!  You've seen it firsthand.

Here we go again....but this is fact:
After the '05 Augie game, JT went to the CCIW meeting held at NCC and ripped them about the officiating during that game. Since then, NCC has been the most penalized team in the CCIW. He wishes he had never done that at that meeting because he feels that his actions continue to penalize the players even though they had nothing to do with it.
As I watch and try to e objective, it does seem like NCC is called for ticky-tack stuff, especially after big plays or at crucial times. Conversely,  I've seen NCC jerseys almost get ripped off right in front of the officials and not get a call. It is one thing to let the teams play, but it doesn't appear to be equal.
And yes, coaching staffs' actions, I believe, does affect whether the flag comes out, or stays in the pocket sometimes.

The only thing missing from your description is the shooter in the grassy knoll.....that's the biggest bunch of hogwash I have ever read. It's no wonder NCC went 10-0 with all the refs out to get them.

When did NCC fans turn into such crybabies?

Hey...not so fast...I happen to agree with USEE.  I think the whole referee conspiracy thing is a complete joke.  With that said, if a coaching staff becomes notorious for screaming at the refs you better believe you are not getting the benefit of the doubt.  There is a big difference between a conspiracy and human nature.

I have to agree with reallywashedupcard here....  :)

I always want to thank you for the explanation of conspiracy...I know that the NCC education you received must have prepared you well for the legal education that produced this definition.

Dude, I'm like one year older than you....the reallywashdupcard was a low blow.

it just sounded right....no hard feelings i hope

None., I was just giving you a hard time.   Formerlycompententenoughtobeacard  Besides we spilled blood on the same field...that has to count for something.

Absolutely...no one forgets the locker room victory song, no matter how obscene it was.

Would you have wanted your mother to hear you singing it?

I cant comment on other teams victory songs, but they could have been yes.

For all you NCC fans who travelled to Whitewater last year to watch the Cardinals play you will be comforted with the news that the visiting bleachers at Perkins stadium have been condemned. Don't worry though, I am sure they were fine when you were sitting there.  ;D

How is this high school field that the game has been relocated to?  Pat, I know Franklin is the better seed, I guess my question is- if Franklin's field is not in game day shape,  why wouldn't they play the game at Wheaton, or another college close to Franklin?  Kind of goes along the lines of Carthage a few years ago, where their press box wasn't "ready" and they were denied a home game?  Just curious but I hope the field does not hinder the play on Saturday.

I know Carthage was not able to host because their pressbox did not meet NCAA Playoff standards.  I do not know for sure, but I believe the main thing wrong was no high speed internet hook up.  So if the High school stadium press box has those things they should be fine.

However I doubt that franklin is dumb enough to not look into the rules and if they can play the game there.

Redman:

That's an interesting point.

Carthage wasn't able to host home games because of its press facilities.  A couple years ago Brockport hosted John Carroll in the east region finals at Rochester's stadium because of field conditions.  And this year Franklin is hosting at the local high school.

I'm not sure what determines the alternate hosting site options or if that criteria has changed. I know it's high speed internet availability, though.  Many places don't have that capacity including Franklin High School.

To their credit, Franklin is doing everything they can (even if it costs money) to make the alternate site work for us and the other two radio crews.

Maybe the Division III football playoff handbook sheds some light on how this works now.

Interestingly, the penalty for Carthage was their opponent got to host. I also remember Augustana used to play some playoff games at the local HS during their run in the 80's. Their field was really bad at the end of the year.

It couldn't host because the "press box" sat about three people.

I wonder how many people the Franklin HS press box sits. especially since the 3 radio teams are sitting in the stands. If they don't get seats, who does?

I always said that Elmhurst had a fight polka.   ;D ;)  It doesn't sound much like a traditional fight song, though.

Augie's problem was exasperated because part of their practices took place on their game field, if I'm not mistaken.  I do recall seeing all their blocking sleds and practice equipment in the small area behind the visitor bleachers.

A grass field, long seasons, and poor weather late in the year made for some pretty sloppy conditions in Rock Island.
