If I had to rank the Mount QB's during the run of titles, it'd go like this:
1.  Bill Borchert
2.  Jim Ballard
3.  Greg Micheli
4.  Gary Smeck
5.  Rob Adamson
6.  Mike Jorris
7.  Zach Bruney

Wouldn't every team like the problem of having to rank a list like that?   :o
Wheaton Football: CCIW Champs: 1950, 1953-1959, 1995, 2000, 2002-2004, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2019

usee

Also, If you include Borchert's post season performances his career totals would be over 14,000 yds and 190 TD's. (and yes 63 TD's on 1 INT is better than 31 and 2--although they are both sick numbers).

I haven't done the math but I can't imagine Micheli will beat Borchert's career passer rating if you include playoffs.

Doing my pick em's this week and the Wheaton/Franklin match up seems to be my biggest challenge.  In doing research and looking for any edge I can to help me decide, I have a question.  Does the Thunder's stadium have grass or field turf.  Thanks for the info in advance.

Nice article on the Wheaton football team with the missionary work they do every during their spring break that is found on the home page.

Just wanted to give them Kudos for a job well done.

For all the Wheaton fans coming down to Franklin on Saturday, have a safe trip and I am sure you will be in store for an exciting game.

footballfan413,

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your question, but the game is being played at Franklin Community High School's stadium. Looks like it has field turf.

I'm guessing footballfan413 is looking to understand what type of field Wheaton plays on at home to gauge how moving from Franklin's grass to the high school's turf might affect the game?  Regardless of the reason behind the question... Wheaton plays on "state-of-the-art artificial grass from FieldTurf".

I know that but it looks like Franklin has played on grass all year which is why the field is not NCAA appoved and so Franklin will now be playing on field turf, not something they are use to.  Playing on field turf can effect the timing of a passing game if an offense is not use to it.  So, I wanted to know if the Thunder will have the same situation.  If their home field has field turf than the transition may not affect them the way it will Franklin.  Like I said, just looking for any little edge to push me one way or the other.

Thanks, Mugsy.  You nailed it for me.  So what is your opinion about how that will affect the game.  Both teams seem to rely heavily on the passing game and looks like Wheaton will have a small advantage regarding being use to playing on field turf.

If you are looking at the turf to determine a winner I think you are WAY overanalysing this game.  ;D

Wheaton plays it's home games on "field turf" just like the franklin county HS field. They played at Wabash on natural grass and had their best output of the season. Franklin played at NCC on artificial grass and it didn't seem to bother them. I think Otterbein still has natural grass.

Picking Franklin is the easy pick. Go out on a limb and support the Thunder!!

I'd bet there are at least 4-5 posters (and more on CCIW Chat) who saw Anderson play (he was one year behind me).  Since the game was so different back then, he barely appears in CCIW records, and I can't find any write-ups or game summaries from his era.  He led the league in passing his sophomore and junior years (but not his senior year, when he just had to settle for POY - which apparently was not conferred in his earlier years).  Since I didn't realize at the time that I was watching "FUTURE NFL MVP KEN ANDERSON" ;), I really am not sure whether he was all that unusually excellent as a college player (IWU beat Augie both his freshman and senior years).  Anyone have a better memory, or has found better stats?

I never saw Anderson play at Augie, but here are his, by today's standards, modest career totals:

Year    Att.  Cmp.  Pct.  Yds.  (W-L)
1967    155    77  49.7  1143   (4-5)
1968    239   136  56.9  2117   (6-3)
1969    199    98  49.2  1432   (7-2)
1970    234   113  48.3  1439   (3-6)
-----------------------------
Career  827   424  51.3  6131  (20-16)

Sorry, I don't have interception and TD totals. Obviously Paul Brown must've known a little about football to take Anderson in the third round. He was the sixth QB taken in the 1971 draft, behind Jim Plunkett, Archie Manning, Dan Pastorini, Lynn Dickey and Leo Hart (?).

DanSand,

Thanks for posting these. Where did you find them? I looked and couldn't come up with anything. Paul Brown is Einstein for picking Anderson w these stats!

I don't know about you guys but I am pulling for Cortland State to win Saturday. Wheaton fans want to see a new opponent every now and then.  8) ::)

ProPower,

thanks for the clarification. I was thinking of the right place, wrong name. If you go to google maps, you will see the school was still under construction and not visible on their satellite view other than the construction zone.

Oh ya, no doubt but sometimes it is looking at the little details that give you an edge.  Won the WIAC pick em's last year and tied for 2nd this year, (after leading before the final week,) so my methods have some validity although I have been accused of being anal at times.   ;)  Know that Franklin is the favorite but can't seem to get past the strength of conference issue.  D3 ranks the CCIW 5th and the HCAC 20th and being a WIAC fan, I understand how that matters.  Also, they have had two common opponents and that was a split decision.  I want to pick the Thunder, just trying to build my case.   ;) ;D
