From the LINFIELD ATHLETICS website....

QUOTING COACH JOE SMITH

Quote"The pass protection by the offensive line was the best we have had all season. Jake Lucey and James Holan both played their best games of the season."

Well, there you go Onlinemom, somebody's in your corner!

And that's a good someone to be in my corner, don't you think.  Brought your karma up to a nice whole number!!!

Excuse me for infiltrating your board,

I am Saxon 73, who graduated from Alfred University in New Yok State (nowhere near New York City) and I just wanted to personaly thank the Linfield community for their expression of concern and empathy for our injured player Julio Fuentes.  He has regained feeling in his arms and legs to some extent, so that is an improvement.

Your expression of concerm resonates throughout upstate New York and the various small colleges in the NorthEast.

So I want to thank you for your adult, mature and humanistic feelings.

I would like to establish a dialouge with someone to enhance the D3 communications so MT Union doesn't win so much.

I'd like to have a team out west I can root for.

I did live in L.A. from 1973 - 1976 but then returned to UPSTATE NY

Best  wishes,

Saxon 73

That is great news about Julio, Saxon 73.  Thanks for sharing that with this board.  I have found the Linfield people to be great!!  Their team is always in the mix near the end of the season.  But everything pales when it comes to life-threatening injuries like was suffered in the Thiel-Alfred game.  I truly hope that Julio continues to make improvement!!

Good to see
RET Travis Masters, Jr., Linfield
in d3football.com TEAM OF THE WEEK 6.

That's well-deserved recognition for Masters.

Hey, Topcat, is Doris Sybouts the mother or wife of Tom Sybouts, the kicker we had several years ago? That guy was really enthusiastic. He'd jump up and down after every kick he made.

Saxon 73, welcome to the NWC board, and Julian has our continuing good wishes. Please keep us posted on his progress.

It's pretty quiet for the start of Lute Week.
Two words:  THE STREAK

Gig Harbor Cat

Updated Parkland forcast for downtown Parkland-Sparks metro area.  Limited sunbreaks due to heavy infiltration of purple frisbees over sparks stadium.  Sunbreaks are due to reflection of light off of yellow shorts on the west side of stadium.
Also announced that the Rolling Stones will be playing at Sparks and they are listed as a 14 point favorite over the Lutes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now that would be a great double header.  Two farewell tours for the price of one.  The Stones and THE STREAK.  If the Lutes upset Linfield that winning streak is in serious jeopardy.

Wish I could make it down for the game.

I am not sure that IF (big IF) plu beats Linfield that the streak is in all that much jeopardy- they would have to win 2 of 3 versus whitworth (a toss-up for sure), Lewis and Clark, and Menlo. I have a feeling that this team can beat L&C and Menlo. Call me crazy, but I do not see us losing to the pios if the streak is on the line.

Wish I could be there this weekend, but there are rumors of a dome appearance brewing....
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

Oops, you are right.  I read the standings backwards, Linfield is 3-2 not 2-3.  I was thinking a Lutes upset win (and I did say upset) would put the Cats at 2-4 having to win out to keep the streak alive.  Now that I've got that straight I'll revise my statement.  If the Lutes send the Cats slinking back to McMinnville with a loss there is virtually no chance, in my mind, that Linfield doesn't win at least 2 of the last three and keep THE STREAK going. :)

SBB,

You were a Lute in the early to mid 80's, right? You must have been in some great battles against the 'Cats?

Going through the last few days of banter and thought I'd add a point about Trevor Scharer.   Tuxguy posted his stats for the year (good job!), but in a conversation yesterday with another member of the stat gang, Scharer's QB rating is 188 since becoming the starter three games ago.....Brett Elliott territory!   Posters here are actually underselling Scharer....which rarely happens on this board.

Another stat note.....Linfield is the most penalized team in the NWC.   I'll disagree with Tuxguy about the penalties (after all, I'll bet there weren't more than a handful of people at the game who understood the substitution infraction penalty Linfield had, which  I understand D&D said was delay of game for those of you who rely on the internet broadcast)....I thought most if all were deserved from the stuff I saw (I have to follow the ball in the box and not see stuff happening behind the play).  That area needs some work.

Simple mistake! Because I do expect a tough battle versus the Lutes, I am sure glad we do sit at 3-2 and not 2-3. Whitworth with the playoffs on the line sounds a lot more fun than whitworth with the streak on the line.

SBB,

You were a Lute in the early to mid 80's, right? You must have been in some great battles against the 'Cats?

d-train, That is correct.  It really came down most years to us or them getting into the playoffs.  At the time, in NAIA D2, only 8 teams made the playoffs, so one loss put you on the bubble, and two you were gone for sure (we snuck in at 7-2 in '83).  As a d-lineman all week long we'd practice to stop their traps and the quarterback bootleg.  But sure enough, some point in the game, there would go their QB (Schmidlin?) on a bootleg around our end who crashed in too far.

GHC's comment about the Stones really brought back the memories.  If memory serves me right (and often it doesn't  :) ) I went to the Stones 1981 "farewell" tour at the Kingdome the week of the Linfield game.

As this season started I figured we'd be in for another rough day this weekend, but as we progress the Lutes look better and better and Linfield as some weakness (pass coverage?).  Now I'm thinking it'll be a good game.  Either that or we've been playing weaker teams lately and aren't any better??  The turnovers are unbelievable.

d-train

Yeah, the Lute turnover count over the past 3 years or so has been totally out of control. I just don't get it.

We should be able to give 'em a decent test this weekend, but it also sounds like they're coming together as well.

When I played, Linfield was just one of several primary rivals. The strength of Central Wash. (co-champs with Jon Kitna in '95), Western Wash. (runners-up in '96), and Willamette (runners-up in '97) watered down the PLU-Linfield thing a little bit. The return to the NWC, the move to D-3, and the title runs since have brought the rivalry back into focus.
