I have told the father of the Menlo tight end about the wonderful atmosphere of seeing a game at the Catdome. I also suggested he look you guys up at the tailgater. If he shows, please make him feel welcome and show him and his wife the great Cat hospitality, as you always do. Wish I could be there, but I will get to see the Cats on Nov. 11. Go Cats and claw up some Oaks!!!

I personally would be very surprised if Willamette can beat Whitworth. I just don't see it. And as far as the Linfield running game....it's getting better and more effective.

Dutchfan1....please, we don't want to give Johnnie Red a heart attack!  ;D

My ranking of Linfield's greatest teams (since 1985).   I have been fortunate to see almost all of their games.

7.    2000 - Passing - B+,   Rushing - B+,   Defense - B+   Very good team.

6.    1992 - Passing - B,   Rushing - A,   Defense - B    Bad offensive play calling cost us  in the championship game.

5.    2003 - Passing - A,  Rushing - B-,   Defense - B     One play away from beating  St. John's in MN, the eventual national champion.

4.    2005 - Passing - A,   Rushing - B-.   Defense - B    Missed George Carter's deep threat and Ford and Jenkins.

3.    2002 - Passing - B+,  Rushing - A+,   Defense - A-.    Also, one play away from beating St. John's.

2.    1986 - Passing - A,   Rushing - A-,    Defense - A-    Best balanced offense and good defense.

1.    2004 - Passing - A+,  Rushing - B,   Defense B-     But, defense won the BIG game.  Ranked higher than 1986 only because of winning championship 3,000 miles away.

However, all were great teams.    Any of them might have beaten any other one on a given Saturday.
GO CATS! GO!

The three things Willamette has going for them are 1.  An extra week of rest and preparation.  2.  Lowered expectations (thought I do not think Whitworth will look past them with so much on the line) and 3.  The fact that their running game is not as strong has forced them to balance things out more which makes them a little harder to read---the Rats will have to give a little more respect to the receivers on patterns thain in past years.  That being said, Whitworth should win and it should not be very close if for no other reason than the fact that Willamette has played very poor defense this year.

As for the Cat running attack, true it is not their bread and butter BUT--menlo's offense was able to run some on the Rats (and is not a very strong offense).  Given this, and the fact that the Rats will have to commit to covering the WRs of the Cats---I would think the Cats could open up their running game some more (especially when they break out the Wishbone <as I've been predicting all year> :) ).  But, alas, we get ahead of ourselves again.....I'm too easily distracted by the Rat posters who are getting ready for the show-down a week early.

One Game At A Time Boys (and myself)----Go Cats---Carve the Oaks! :) :) :)
Go Cats!

Interesting observations...although I would move the 1992 team ahead of the 2002 team. The thing that surpised me about delving into tapes of that team was that while being rememebered for Sells and McGarvy (and Good), they did pass the ball a fair amount.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

Gig Harbor Cat

Dee,
This comes under the category of small world.  I was up at a sports bar in Marysville yesterday (Imagine that !!!) on business of course.  and Overheard this young (your age) guy tell the bartender that he attended PLU.  So I asked him if he was at the game last week, looking for a chance to brag on the Cats.  Anyway as it turns out he was a teammate of yours.  I think he said that he wore #10.  We talked about all of the games and players from back in the day and he confirmed to me that Hicks took his teeth out before each game,  some funny stuff.  We ended up having a couple of beers together and several laughes.  .  Also his track coach at PLU is the current track coach at Gig harbor High School (Sko on the board) who is a friend of mine.  Anyway he said he sees you often.  It was fun.

Time for my one post every two weeks.

I was blessed with the opportunity to watch the CATS again this weekend.  Big Worm72 and myself made the short trek to PLU country and watched our CATS play very well.  Our tackling improved compared to the only other game I have seen (UPS), and pass protection looked sharp only giving up one sack against a stunt-happy D.

As always the our fan turn-out for the PLU game was impressive.  It was to see GHC, WC11, DT48, and so many others.

I agree that our running game is improving, but when our O has a 4th and half yard, and we elect to throw, my huge O-line heart sank.  We still have work to do up front.

Nov 4th may be a game I can't miss.
GO CATS!!

Tuxguy,
Thanks for the phone updates on Saturday about the game. The whole family appreciated them.

OK...now let me get this straight...this is the Linfield vs PLU game and some of you football menza Linfield fans aren't even going to the game? Sunriver?.....Get  a life. All I hear is all this love for the team and you guys can't even make the games? D-Train...you're not even going? Don't you guys know it's all about the game...this game, not some old crap you want to think about and look back on....all some of you morons talk about what you're going to drink and eat before and during the game. I bet you don't see half the game. Give me a break...I don't need ice tea to enjoy the game. Get off your ass and go to the game and support the team, don't just come on here and pose as a fan. If you are within 5 hours of the game you should be there unless you are dead.

And thank you, Mudball, for your kind support of a fellow 'Cat fan. As Tuxguy said, we all have our priorities, and if my family wants to take my wife to Sunriver for an extra long weekend to celebrate her birthday the only time our son can get the time off school, we don't need to ask your permission.

If we want to socialize before the games with friends, we don't need to ask your permission for that either.

I played at Linfield before several of you posters were born, and I don't need to have my loyalty questioned. My butt has been in the same seat for over 30 years, and I'm there at the kickoff, whether I've had a beer before the game or not. My wife has deeper Linfield roots that any poster here and you can phone THAT in.

I'm not a "menza" fan, or even a Mensa member, but I'm not a moron either.  I have always been an avid Linfield supporter, both financially and with my presence at the games.

Again, as Tuxguy said, I have a life, and I enjoy it just fine.

Well said, Mr Coco.  I've seen the beautiful pictures of the deer and the surrounding countryside of Sunriver that Mrs. Coco sent me.  Gorgeous!   All the pics she has sent of Oregon are pretty!  (Happy Birthday Mrs. Coco.  I am working on something for you but I am not telling yet what it is).  I got text messages from Gig Harbor to keep me informed about the game this past Sat.  which was wonderful since I couldn't be near a computer either. When it was 7-3 PLU I was concerned, but that didn't last long.   I know you all will enjoy the game this weekend against Menlo.  I expect the guys to take care of business and win another game on Saturday.  Go O-LIne.  Let Scharer shine.  Let's take it to the endzone early and often .  I am for our defense doing the same thing.  Force the other team to make mistakes and capitalize on them.  :) ;) ;D
Cats 44-Menlo 17 Just my 2 brownies worth . . .

A tad off topic and looking ahead, will any of you NWC and Sunriver fans be in Sunriver for the Christmas holidays?  I have it on good authority that there will be at least one Oxy football fan in the region staying in the neighborhood and available for a cold (warm?) drink after a day of skiing at Mt. Bachelor . . .  ;)

Good luck Cats and Rats this weekend, looking forward to the match of the unbeatens.

Just catching up, need to have something cleared up for me.

coco,
Is dutchfan1, the famous nursegoodbody? :o If so, she needs to come back and see us!!

cawcdad,
Give your friend my number if he and friends want to meet up with us. You know at the Tailgate we will treat them with good old Wildcat Hospitality. What happens on the field will be a different type of Cat Hospitality. Oak chips might be flying.  ;D
Let me know!

Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

coco

Tux,

No, but they've both been out here. I don't think you've met Dutchfan1. She's a little cutie from Central, and visited here a few years ago, when we only tailgated at the playoff games. She and Bluenote are friends.

NurseGoodbody (so named by Desertcat) is from Minnesota, and she posts as NurseCat, but she hasn't posted lately. She's the one you know.

He still has the twins.    ;D ;D

Well....Catdomealumni.com just suffered our first casualty in the Google acquisition of YouTube.

They just submarined the 2002 SOU clip off of YouTube because of I'm using an NFL Films clip as the soundtrack to the 2002 SOU clip.  I guess I'm violating copyright law.

Since many of Catdomealumni.com's clips use NFL Films music as our soundtrack it looks like it's time to find a new video file host for the site in the upcoming months.

YouTube....it was fun while it lasted.........
