Good game Wildcats, Better hope you get things together or they will be no RAT killing...let the trash talk begin. I'll give my two cents on the Whitworth game tomorrow, but I've got plans for the evening so I got to go.

Oh yeah, Hatchetman...even though I'm glad UPS won only for the sake of Whitworth's strength of schedule, not because I actually like the Loggers...I TOLD YOU SO.  I mean hey, I got one score almost exact for I once, I gotta do a little bragging while I still can.

Those look good to me, Monrovia. Will you be able to make it up for a game this season?

Topcat,

I didn't see the usual jug this week, but I had my normal brews, and Mrs. C was drinking a chocolate martini out of her travel mug. The TG was good, but the game was better, especially the second half.

For those who didn't attend, the HoF banquet was outstanding. There were so many fine introductions of the inductees (Ad is such an exceptional person), and the speeches the inductees gave were both humorous and touching. I think everyone enjoyed it a lot.

A chocolate martini? I thought you guys always stuck to Long Islands for your tailgating festivities. :)

Limit the turnovers...Treat Joel Clark like Terry Tate would and it'll be all good!

He'll be speaking spanish when we're done with him!  ;) :o  "When it's game time...it's pain time!"

Hey Everyone,
It's been a while since my last post but I read the board all the time. I just had to come back and get my two cents out there for this week's game.

Hmm...where have I seen this before???

Oh yeah!!! 2001!

Let's see, in 2001 the Cats started off the year at 1-2 and everyone in Catland was in fear that the streak would come to an end. Then, in our time of need, in stepped a new QB wearing the #15, and with him he brought a win, and another win, and yet another win. Into the big showdown, with an undefeated Whitworth team.

The RATS came into the Catdome with a 6-0 record and sporting some good stats against not so good teams, and another loud mouthed poster by the name of AB. He hooted and hollered and talked about how great the RATS D was, how his brother (the QB) was the greatest player since Jim Brown, and throwing out ridiculous predictions like: Rats 64 - Cats -3.

Even with all of the that, they came and it ended like it almost always seems to end at the CATDOME, especially in this "rivalry" -- A WILDCAT WIN!

So, I am making predicition today, not based on any stats or anything else other than history. Because as we know in Wildcat Nation...history repeats itself. NWC Championships seem to repeat themselves, Winning Seasons seem to repeat themselves, and even National Championships seem to show up every now and then too.

So, I am calling on the ghosts of (the man, the myth, the legend) David Russell, Ty Matthews, Ryan Cruz's three field goals, and of course, Mike Cooney's punt return to win it in the closing minutes. My prediction is the same score as it was on that day: Linfield 23 - Whitworth 16.

Led by our new #15 (not nearly as good as the original but is still getting the job done), we stop turning the ball over and get it done.

CONGRATS ON 51 SEASONS!!!!
Go CATS!!!!

One thing that the coaches at Linfield are known for is fixing their mistakes.  I have no reason to believe the staff will continue to let turnovers be a problem for the cats.  Though with a high flying passing attack and a young QB turnovers do happen.

Defense however has been playing out of their minds.  The philosophy for our D is not to let what happens on offense affect how you play on defense.  If their is a turnover then the D steps in with a 3 and out.  This week will by far be the biggest challenge to date for the O & D.

As for a little insight for this weeks CATS vs RATS game, I see Clark having a more typical 05 game but it still wont be enough to overcome the passing attack of the Cats on turf.  Having seen the last few games up close and personal I would say that the Rats always present a new twist or challenge to their game plan for the Cats.  Some years it only takes a few series to find a weakness while other years it doesnt happen until later in the second half.

For what ever reason year in and year out Linfield has some aspect of their game step up for the Whitworth game.  01 it was the punt return team, other years it has been fly around D, and lately it has been the O's turn.

To me the two keys for this weeks game are special teams and 3rd down conversions.  As for ST Linfield I believe has the edge because of speed and preperation.  3rd down is a little more interesting with both teams sitting at around 40%.  I believe the team that can drive the ball longer and spell their D a little R&R will come out with a W.  With that said my prediction is .....

RATS- 17
CATS- 35

Hope to see you all at the CATDOME on Sat.

Snapper45.....LiveWith9,

Thanks for the insights and comments. From guys who have been in the trench's it's always enjoyable to to hear yours and other Cats take on things!

As long as I've been part of the Linfield community, from a boy on the sidelines in the Mid 60's, to going College, and now attending games and living in the area,
the Wildcats Coach's and Staff have been by far the best at 1) fixing problems before the games, 2) making the correct adjustments at half time and 3) installing that Linfield Classy Winning attitude into every players head.

I believe it has been passed down from Coach to Coach. From Coach Paul Durham to Ad Rutschman, Ed Langsdorf to Jay Locey and now to Linfield Head Coach Joe Smith!
Any problems will be fixed this week and the Cats will come out of Saturday NWC Champions once again!

Pat.....I was saddened to read Keith's around the Nation and see he is going to Texas this week! Is that true? What happened to the trip out west to see the Conference Championship played at the Catdome?  :'(
I'm sure we could get a covered wagon to pick him up at PDX and get him to the game! Plus, I'd get a Coat for him so he didn't have to stand in the cold and rain!   ;D;D

Trivia Q.
When was the last time the 'rats beat the wildcats in FB and where was the game played.

Foss

tuxguy, Nice post on the 'Cat coaching staff over the years.

Hey, I think you're reading last week's Around the Nation - Keith was in Texas for the UW-Whitewater/UMHB game. I doubt he'd go there for two straight games. Plus, I don't think this week's ATN is up yet.

A link to the review of this week's 'Cats/'Rats game: Battle for the NWC championship

And for our friend Olinemom, a quote from Coach Smith on Saturday's game vs. Menlo: "I was pleased with our offensive line – they played probably their best game of the year. We had more emphasis on the running game and we made a commitment to go to Drew Ragan (Jr., Bellevue, Wash.) more often. That took a lot of pressure off the quarterback and receivers."
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Swede,

In 1975 they beat us 21-14 at their house.

Here's some info from a very reliable source, hot off the press:

Jared Thomas isn't listed on Linfield's two-deep, because he is injured...he says he wants to play and is going to try, but still a big question mark...not that this is a big deal in this game, just goes to show how easy it is to obtain injury info even though everyone on this board has their lips sealed.

Also, Whitworth will begin broadcasting both the audio and video of their games beginning this season at home against UPS.  So for those of you who won't get the privelage of witnessing the Cats getting SPADE this weekend, feel free to watch them cut down the loggers the following weekend at the pine bowl...all from the comfort of your own home.
