DT48 and Foss...I tend to agree with you but what if we take away the fumble/turnover trend...like stop it cold. How would we do then? I really like how the defense came together. I really like Scharer and the receivers were getting pretty decent. Not up to par with 2004-2005 but getting pretty good. Plus we have maybe one of the best upcoming FG kickers in the nation. What if we ad a crafty running back to the mix? How would we be then... ::)

Fellas, I agree with you, if we cut out the turnovers we'd be very competitive.  Heck we were 2-1 with 19 turnovers and were an eyelash from being 3-0 so yea I think we'd be fine.  I do think in my heart of hearts that any one of those three teams would get rolled by the teams you mentioned in the west and I don't think that Whitworth is the 9th best team in the land.  I guess we'll find out soon enough.  :)

dawg gone it

I've seen both Whitworth and Oxy play Redlands.  Whitworth was UR's first game.  UR rotated qb's and it hurt both of them and obvioulsy helped the Rats.  Against Oxy, UR played them pretty even until, once again, turnovers hurt them in the 4 th quarter.

I think Whitworth is bigger and much more physical than Oxy.  I think the Whit offense is more balanced.   However, I think it will be a close game, at home I give Whit a 10 point advantage at Oxy maybe three, and Oxy has a chance to win at home. Just my opinion.

509...I can't take all the "our D lays hat and caused all the fumbles" on here and the SCIAC board...

Fumble 1-QB flat ass dropped the ball trying to switch hands.

Fumble 2- running back who shouldn't have even been on the field                                    gets hit from the side and fumbles.  Hardly a vicious hit                                      and definately not one a running back should cough up the ball on.

Fumble 3-Again running back who shouldn't be playing gets his pocket picked
like he's a third grader who stumbled out to the older kids recess.

Fumble 4-botched handoff...don't think the "big hit footsteps" caused this one...

Fumble 5-While #1 and #2 can be debated, this one cannot.  Pirate hat right on                the ball.  Big time play at the most crucial point of the game.  Big                       time credit on this one...essentially won the ball game for you.

So at best I'd give your D sole credit for two of the five.  The strip was good but a vet back that Linfield had on the bench doesn't get picked like that.  The second one was unacceptable...no running back should cough it up on that routine hit.

Your guys made some big plays when they had to, nice work.  But Tully saying in the Spocompton newspaper that your D is "one of the best in the nation" is a stretch.  I guess we'll see in two weeks, make it three, Oxy doesn't count.  ;)

Hey guess what Downtown, we won so you're just gonna have to deal with it.  What is "he shouldn't have been on the field" supposed to mean?  Oh yeah, he outperformed your other backs the last few games and the coach decided to start him.  The hit on the second fumble was a solid hit and again, an arm attempting to strip the ball got in there and knocked it loose.  And fumble three had the ball stolen from him...score one for the Rat defense.  So what if you have another rb who may have not had it taken from him...the fact is that Whitworth actively tried to take that ball from him and succeeded.  And what about the fumble by your all-american kick returner?  He was lucky that the Whitworth player who leveled him, knocked the ball loose, and fell on it slipped, allowing the ball to squirt out...lets play the woulda, coulda, shoulda game and say whitworth gets the ball there and has another chance to score with the wind at their back with decent weather (it got progressively worse up untill the 4th, then it just stayed bad).  Tully is stretching it...but a +16 turnover margin (i think) is the same as Mt. Union's, and our scoring defense remains best in the west.

Lets even say that we caused only two of the five fumbles, which I don't agree with, we caused both interceptions.  That means whitworth's D, according to Wildcats fans, still forced 4 turnovers against the superior Wildcats.

Downtown, you no longer have the luxary of having a legitamate NFL QB on your team, or one of the best (if not the best) recieving core in the country, or a big time runningback...its a down year, get used to it.

Wow, that got your dander up... :-*

First of all, he didn't outperform anybody the last few games...he was the only one to play, but that's another story.  Obviously not your D's fault he's in the game but just another break you got and again, self inflicted.

Second of all, I'll take a "down year" where we still had four shots from the 15 yard line to win the conference championship despite seven turnovers anyday.  I've got no problem giving credit when credit is due as I've done the last couple of times Linfield has been knocked out of the playoffs by a better team.  This just simply wasn't the case this time around.  Look, we'll get back to winning conference championships next year and we'll hear from you guys again in say, 2036.  So good luck in two weeks and like OC said, don't embarrass the conference against Oxy.  ;)

what happened? who are the rats or should that be pl(who)? where is spo-can anyway?

lets face it, its hard winning year in and year out. you gotta admit, that for a team to go on winning and winning for like 50 years is just downright impossible. never happens.

being the NWC champ and beating the same team for decades is just hard to do.

so congrats to the pirates. i was not there but they most likely played like there was no sunday, and the cats were the goliath their david.

anyway, remember the 1999 ludes, they put the west and most important the NWC on the diii map. at least a little bit anyway. it was a good start. so heres to 2006.....

wildcat fans:

maybe the rats can replace the ludes till sw gets the team back on track. anybody from washington should do.

we must realize we went 1-1 while committing like 13 turnovers. so we have been lucky thus far. i hope that the cats fix this for the next couple of years. i think that for a linfield team to be hampered by rain is not good. if thats the case, rip out the fake junk and give us back the mud. take away the field house and let the kids practice in the mud. i can tell you this, when the field was muddy the cats loved being in the mud and rain. in fact that was the catdome advantage.

bring back the dome, the band, the rubber balls whatever!!!!!

aj missed you at the game, oh well there is always next year.

go cats

hey diii - the cats would make a great playoff choice. give'um a chance.

much love lnd

509Rat---you guys won.  You should take that and run with it instead of trying to justify the win against us disapointed Cat fans who are looking for the positives in the loss and trying to rationalize it for ourselves---don't get dragged into the should of, would of, could of that some us Cat fans are going to be stuck with until next year. ;)

Cat Fans---"we" lost and deserved to lose with the way "we" played (and of course I refer to the turnovers--not the solid D and good ability to move the ball on O).  We can argue all day about which team was better (or 'superior' to use somebody's term) but the bottom line is we were not the better overall team this week AND we don't play the game 9 of 10 times- we play it once (sometimes twice in the rare rematch in the playoff).  Unless the selection committee gives the Cats some extra magic, we're waiting until next year to play the Rats again.  After last year and early this tyear there was was a lot of talk about how the Cats don't rebuild, they reload and I'd say we did.  Now we've just got fine tune our aim.  We've got the Pios this week which gives the Cats a chance to improve on the fundamentals that have not always been there this year.  After that, we'll see but it looks like we'll be starting the reloading process early this year.

Go Cats!   :)

You're right about the PLU game but's it's quite the coincedence that Ragen gets his first start in that game, just laying the ground work for next week where our D-Tackle had as many carries as our other running backs.  So for all intents and purposes, he's the only one that played against Menlo.  Why? I'm sure you've got an idea.  I won't bring this up again.  The situation was just handled poorly and it directly helped cost Linfield a football game.  Are there bigger things to be concerned with, sure.  Just ticks me off.

So...do we have a chance to bounce back this week?   :D

d$

DT48 - i understand where you are coming from, i think we all do.  All cat fans are frustrated with the loss.  You're right, people should stop saying he runs like DRuss cause those kind of comparisions are unfair for any kid and don't give DRuss his deserving credit for the amazing back he was.  Do you think that the other backs we have are better than the starter?  Last time I checked we haven't a back since Jenkins/Tford.  I think the staff has done it's best with the hand they were left with.  Just curious who the "vet back linfield had on the bench" was?
