Yes, interesting article, 11.  A quick look at the Whitworth stats reveals an interesting trend in Allan's stats, maybe?

v Linfield   2 catches for 58 yards
v Azuza Pacific   3 for 59
v Oxy  1 for 14

Does it seem that in the big games they don't use their big guy?  Against the peanuts he was killin' em.  Dunno.

Maybe it's in the rat water.  With the way that 509 is trying to drive away every potential ally on these boards (What's your problem, 48? A little rudeness and your all in a huff? ;)), one could argue that the Rats don't like doing things the smart way.

....I've cheered Linfield on to 4 National Titles....Moonbeam. And come on, confess...you were dressed in a girls outfit, parading around like a moron cheering for Crown.  ;D

Only if you admit you have a picture of JohnnieRed next to your bed that you kiss every night before you go to sleep :-*

PS. NAIA (Non-Athletic Idiot Association) titles don't count... except for the wons SJU won and 2004 doesn't count because you didn't have to play SJU or Mount Union.

WC11,

Once again you come through with an interesting link!  Your internet prowess is second only to your love of bashing TDT.  Keep up the good work ;D

What can we expect from the Pirate defense?  Odd or even front?  Are their d-linemen big boys or do they rely on speed?  Are they a blitzing team?  How's the secondary?

Enough already enough, about all of this NFL prospect crap.  I talked to a buddy of mine that is a regional scout for the Bills.  he is based out of Gig Harbor.  Interesting, he attended the Linfield --  Rat game.  The week before I asked him if he was looking at the so called prospect TE from the Rats.  He said that his name does not appear on any of his hit lists(note that the lists are pretty consistant between all of the scouting community, they come from a bought and paid for service that all NFL systems rely on)  Anyway he was at the game because his granddaughter is a Frosh at Linfield and plays in the pep band.  Anyway after seeing your NFL prospect play, well lets just say(dont hold your breath on draft day bubba)

You already proved Oxy was who we thought they were now I suspect St. John's will show everybody you are what we thought you were...good luck...nevermind, I don't mean that.  :o

Duffman,
My take on the Rats, is that if they pull it off, its because of their D.  Their front is a bit overrated.  I think their big ++ is their LB group.   They are quick to the ball,  read well, and always look to strip the ball.  The DB's are solid, a vet defense overall(salty).
I hear that SJU is strong this year with their passing game,  don't overlook the W factor.  The weather this weekend could be the factor to make this a pick-em game.  I remember watching games there and freezing my ass off, sitting in the stands and watching the next wave of weather coming right at you.  If you are there you will know what I mean.  Actually I hope you hit a good day over there.  A game like this should be played and won because of performance factors not weather and conditions.

GHC....Thank your buddy for me....the pep band was the best it's been in several years!

KR.....unfortunately Mount Union and SJU weren't able to advance far enough that year.  :-*

It's too bad all the Linfield Posters have been shut up.....oh wait....  We're all still here.  Meanwhile, I've counted, I think, 1 RAT poster in the last day or two.  I could be wrong, but do we have Rats jumping from a sinking ship?  Hmmm.....I guess that was obnoxious.  I'd better shut up before somebody makes me :)

Have a Great Thanksgiving Everybody!  I don't plan on tuning in to this weeks game so I'll wish both teams good luck and will read about it after the fact!

WC 11,

Good post from the Whitworth newspaper.....maybe Tully's logic was to "save" their supposed "NFL Prospect" for the Johnnie game and not have him on film.....don't know but the bottom line is if they don't use him to his fullest potential on Saturday it could be a very long long day for the Rats on Saturday!

You will see primarily a 3-4, 4-3, and a 3-3-5 (Whit's nickel package).  The two d-tackles are big (6-4, 266 and 6-4, 250) ...not the fastest guys on the field but they aren't like a UW-Stout players who has trouble breathing after a few quick steps.  One d-end is a big boy who can move really well (6-6, 252) and the other starter is the smallest of the four but probably the fastest and the smartest (he's still 6-2, 230).  All in all the d-line has a good combo of size and speed, but as GHC was saying they definately aren't the best part of the Whitworth D.  The LB core is the best they've had at Whitworth for a long time.  They aren't overly big, but they make good reads and fly around the field.  The secondary is better than they looked against Oxy.  Whitworth will run a lot of cover 2, maybe more cover 3 this week because of SJU's tendency to chuck the ball as far down field as they can every few plays, and not enough IMO cover 0/cover 1 (man-to-man).  They blitz a lot and move around a bunch at the line of scrimmage, but this week will be a little different.  Because the QB for SJU does a lot of calling and checking plays at the line of scrimmage, whitworth will show a basic cover 2 shell all game and bring a little less pressure than they did against Oxy (5-7 guys almost every play).  The thinking here is to show this QB who has the playbook....uh, i mean whatever you Johnnies have...at his disposal on every play.  Whitworth doesn't want him to check down pre-snap when he sees a blitzing linebacker, he'll now have to do it on the fly mid play (which is a little tougher).  I think thats about it...if I left something out that you are still curious about Duffman let me know.
