Gig - Not quite sure what your problem is. I can't find anything that should have engendered that much passion one way or the other.

If I am the second coming of someone it is unbenowonst to me.  PC, why do you say I have been on this board for longer than a few months?  I'm as confused as repete.

Retagent- when you are so used to winning everything in your conference and then find out your team isn't that good this year by losing to a team at home who hasn't ever won there...it rubs your fur the wrong way.

Wow, when I first read this I assumed you were referring to SJU losing to Bethel this year and I was going to absolutely destroy you.  And then I realized you were talking about Linfield.

Fair enough.  Carry on.

Whitworth - Congrats on a fine season.   I look forward to visiting Spokane next year when Linfield (hopefully) gets even.

St. John's - Congrats also on a big win and good luck against UWW.

St. John's win yesterday once again showed how they still dominate the NWC teams.   They continually beat our best.    If my memory is right, only PLU has beaten them---once.

Maybe next year Linfield can take it to them!

Great description of the pirates season. However, they have lost to St John's at home before. The year was 1975. Johnnies won 7-3.

That's true, Doc. Unfortunately, everyone in the league has failed to live up to the NWC playoff standard set by Pacific Lutheran.

PLU 8-2
Rest of NWC: 11-8

Pat, Linfield is 9-4, Willamette 0-2, Whitworth 1-1 (before their loss to SJU, which was when this was being discussed), which would be 10-7. Where did you get 11-8?

Congratulations Whitworth Pirates!

Congratulations Whitworth on winning the tough NWC and moving on to the second round of the Division III playoffs.

As Johnnie fans we were greeted by Whitworth representatives upon arrival at your campus and were escorted to the reserved SJU section.  Thank you!

Coach Tully and his players were well prepared and fun to watch.  It was obvious Joel Clark was laboring for the significant portion of the game but performed well and even gutted out a few rushes.

I wish we would have had more time to meet your fans and mingle a bit but as it was we spent the rest of our evening at Chili's and the Spokane airport until our 11:00pm departure.  It was also a pleasure to see your city and enjoy the Pacific NW surroundings.

Congratulations and thanks once again for your hospitality!   :)

RandP, its tough to tell when you are being sarcastic, but if you had trouble readings those earlier posts (I know, I know, a lot of big words were exchanged), then you would know that comment was directed to GHC.  But I guess it does sum up the Whitworth season.  But I don't think we found out that Whitworth wasn't that good, but rather how much more fundamentally sound SJU was.

Congrats Pirates on a great season.  I had a long, fun-filled day yesterday in Spokane.  The Pirates were a good team.  Once the J's found a few plays that worked real well they just kept running them over and over again.  I was expecting to see more adjustments made by the Pirates but that was not the case.

Whitworth had a great season and what a way to celebrate their 100th year!  Good luck next year.
Go Johnnies!!!

By doing the math from our numbers on the front page. But apparently I cut a finger off each hand when I was counting.

Congratulations to Whitworth on a great 100th season.  My feeling is the playoff experience of the Johnnies played a big part in the outcome of the game.

Thanks to all the Whitworth people for the great hospitality.  I spoke to a lot of people from Whitworth and they were all very welcoming and great to talk to.  Especially the chain gang and the ball girl on the SJU side of the field.  (Is "ball girl" PC?  I'm not sure what other term to use. ???)

You have a beautiful venue.  Hoping we have the opportunity to show you our place in the future and return the hospitality that was given us.

Thanks for Respresenting the west Rats.

I hope that some day Oxy schedules teams such as you guys and the rats sometime in the future.

btw, Cat lovers, the L.A. Times did  a quick mention on how you guys still own the all-divisions record of winning seasons. Thats awesome. Keep up the great work as we all hope that the tigers and Cats met again sometime soon.

With their back to the wall in a must win situation, UC Davis beat an undefeated University of San Diego team on Saturday to keep their winning season streak alive at 37 years. A far distant second to the Cats!

Whitworth guys (or Steve Flegel):

Do you know if there is a big athletic event taking place on your campus this weekend? The reason I'm asking is because it was confirmed on the Wisconsin board that if you had won on Saturday and UW-La Crosse had beat UW-Whitewater (which they almost did), your boys would have had to travel to Wisconsin this week even though you were seeded higher than UW-La Crosse. The reason is because you did not bid to host a home game past the 2nd round before the season started. I find it very hard to understand why that would be, especially knowing the kind of team you would be having this season. Was there already a big event planned for this Saturday and/or a number of important people in the athletic department planning on being gone then? These are the only reasons I can think of as to why a team would ever not bid to have a home playoff game.

Uhh, no offense, but you and I know that isn't true.

Wasn't there a guy that went by theharv or something like that?
