And if modern times goes back to the '98 playoffs, the Johnnies are 6-1 against NWC's finest (3-1 PLU, 2-0 Linfield, 1-0 Whit).

"NWC's finest"...Whitworth isn't on that list.  The funny thing is they still beat Oxy... :D

Yes 509, Lucey has been the stud of the o-line but apparently some things changed this season.  Don't know if teams were just scheming him more and attacking with different fronts, but I'm not going to believe that politics played a role.  I guess it could have, but I don't see that as very feasible.  He has always gotten his props in the past.

I've heard of game planning and scheming aganst QBs, RBs, WRs, or even TEs. But never O-Linemen. How do you do that?

"...an offensive line that helped the Linfield attack average nearly 400 yards per game in total offense this season."

The Wildcats had an awesome o-line again this year. Anyone of them could have been named to the Aztec Bowl roster. But I'm bias. My son, Sean Horning, has played right guard (#75) on the o-line for Linfield the last 5 years (redshirt freshman in 2002). He did not want me to mention him on this board while he was playing, but since he is leaving Linfield in December I wanted to let everyone know how proud I am of him. Linfield College has been a part of our family's life for the past five years and it has been an honor to attend the games and be counted as a member of the Linfield Family. His sister, her husband, and their little baby made the trip twice this year to watch him play. His Uncle flew out from Indiana for a game also.

I'd like to thank the Coaches , staff, and members of the Linfield football team for a fantastic experience. LONG LIVE THE CATDOME!

Please indulge a proud father a little more: http://www.linfield.edu/sports/release.php?id=1756

Thank you,

Congratulations RedandPurple,

You have raised a fine young man, and should be proud of him!
He got to play with some of the best athletes I've ever seen at Linfield the last 4 years. What a special group!
He will be missed, but as many have done before him, I'm sure he has primed the next in line for his spot.

I too have one graduating this spring. He will continue his Coaching ( that other football game, soccer) near by at  Yamhill-Carlton High School, and teach in Carlton. They grow up fast don't they!

I hope you will continue to post and follow the Cats in the coming years, as you were, and still are, officially part of the Wildcat family.
Take Care!

Thanks! You're right , the time flies by too quickly. We have nothing but good memories. Linfield is a special place with very special people. It was a privilege to be a part of it. Congratulations on your son's graduation and his coaching job.

I'm listening to the radio replay of the Linfield/PLU game as I type this. I'll keep posting and my wife and I will listen to the games over the internet next season. Linfield has and will continue to have a strong team. Plenty of good players ready for next year.

Hope to see you all at the Homecoming games!

You had me fooled, R&P. I had no idea you had a son on the team all this time. I've always been partial to the O-line myself, and your boy is a good one. He'll be missed, but he'll always be a Wildcat, and you will, too.

Olinemom is a particular fan of your son. That's why she made the bracelets with #75 on them, and OldCatProf delivered them to you.

I wish Sean well in his coaching career. Please do come back for homecoming, and as DOC says, keep those AZ players coming up to Linfield.

Thank you for your kind words about our son. He is and shall always be a WILDCAT! Same with my wife and I.
Yes, olinemom has been great. The bracelets were very cool. My wife and I wore them at every game.
She also sent him some brownies last year. He even shared them with the other guys. The O-line Rules!

The linemen might not have been excited about getting up there to have to face Kleppe :D And if modern times goes back to the '98 playoffs, the Johnnies are 6-1 against NWC's finest (3-1 PLU, 2-0 Linfield, 1-0 Whit).

Yes, St. John's has dominated the NWC.   Most games were close and could have gone either way; but, the fact remains --- St. John's won those close ones.   Period.  85.71 win % against the NWC.

And, whether or not Whitworth was the best of the NWC this year, also is a moot point.  They fairly and squarely beat us all.  They were the NWC champions.   Period.  Congrats to the Pirates.  Losing only to St. John's is nothing to be embarrassed about.

The NWC champion needs to step it up just a notch to beat St. John's.  I, for one,  expect that to happen.  Hopefully in 2007.

Well....in 2004 we didn't play them because they didn't even make the playoffs and in 2005 they got knocked out by Whitewater 34-7 before we had another chance to play them..... :'( ....maybe some day.

BTW...from what I saw the other day, it seemed to me that Whitewater was much better in 2005 than they are this year.

Olinemom

Just trying to keep up with my reading.  A brick wall jumped up and bit my face last week, but I'm stioll kicking and hoping that these games this weekend will be great.  The video feed the last 2 weeks from WW have been fantastic.  I had no problem, no freezing or anything.  Now that I've said that outloud, I'll probably have all kinds of trouble this Saturday.  I'm frankly worried about this game.  Wesley is really a tough team this year.  wW  must do better than they have done the last 2 weeks.  They need to bring their A game.
But this is the NWC board.  I can't wait for Linfield football next year.  I will miss being able to cheer for Sean but he's going to be a great teacher!!  Of that I am positive!!  He has great role models for that!  The OLINE got better this year and will continue to do a great job.  I'm psyched!!  Now what I need to do is to save my pennies to make a visit.  The Catdone looks really neat and I know it rocks!!  I've heard the cheering when Mrs. Coco calls me during games to tell me the scores!  And downtown48 has the right phrase underneath his picture, at least to my mind.
Well, it's time to print out my test for tomorrow's class.Think positive thoughts if you have time.  My kids are going to need it tomorrow morning.  Christmas begins on Wednesday in France.  Not bad, getting gifts from 12/6 though 1/6.  I could get used to that!!!
Brownies for Film Day--Now there's a Slogan I can live with!!!:)  Go EAGLES!

Olinemom:
Where to should I start? Thanks for your support of D3 football, the NWC, Linfield, and Sean. The brownies and the bracelets you made and sent were very thoughtful. Thank you for the emails. Enjoy your Christmas break. Our's begins on the 19th. Can't complain about the time off we get!

Merry Chrsitmas to all! Best wishes for the New Year.

R&P,

I've got to give you credit, like coco, I had no Idea you were a players parent.
My Top Hat is tipped for you. Many, like on the SCIAC board where the father of Redlands new Fr. QB made it so obvious.

A little story:
This was my sons first year as Head boys Soccer coach at near by Y-C high School. I made all the home games and taped them from the spectator side of the field. 2 reasons, 1) I wanted to hear what people were saying, and 2) it didn't give me away as his dad. After many games, finally one parent asked which son was mine. I said the tall one, she looked at me, and I said, Oh, I mean the Coach. She smiled and said we just love him. he's so good with the kids and knows the game so well. I told her that's why I didn't introduce myself in the beginning, I wanted to see how he was treated. Co-Coach of the year summed up the season.

Take care all, and have a Happy Holiday Season.

Great story about your son. And congrats to him and you for all he has accomplished. It's wonderful to watch our boys become men isn't it?
