Sabretooth Tiger

Here is an excerpt from Don Banks on SI.com with his day three "snap judgments" . . .

The no-name who makes a name for himself at the Combine is always an irresistible story angle. One of this year's examples is Whitworth College tight end Michael Allan, who opened some eyes by posting a 4.65 40-yard dash on Saturday, in addition to catching the ball well and jumping well.

Haven't heard of that football powerhouse called Whitworth College, a liberal arts school of 2,200 students? Neither had I. It's a Division III school in Spokane, Wash., and the 6-foot-6, 252-pound Allan was the only Division III player invited to this year's Combine.

"I've gotten used to the fact that nobody knows where Whitworth is," Allan said. "In addition to representing myself I feel like I am representing kind of the whole division because there are a lot of phenomenal athletes out there that didn't get their shot at D-I, so now they're trying to make it.''

I know I'm rooting for the kid. He's a journalism major who wants to pursue a career as a sportswriter if this football gig doesn't work out.

K-Mack

Ooh, sportswriter? Now I really hope football works out for him.

The NFL Network combine coverage is pretty cool if you have someone you care about watching/doing well.

This is from AP or something (I forget where, actually)

QuoteTIME TRIALS: The first three groups of players were clocked in the 40-yard dash Saturday, and not surprisingly a former Miami player was among the fastest.

Tight end Greg Olsen finished in 4.71 seconds, which was matched by tight end Michael Allan of Division III Whitworth College. Gijon Robinson, who played at Division II Missouri Western State, also ran 4.71.

The other two groups were offensive linemen and the top-rated tackle, Joe Thomas who played at Wisconsin, had the third fastest time at 4.92.

Allen Barbre of Missouri Southern State, another Division II school, had the best time of 4.84. Gabe Hall of Texas Tech was second at 4.91 and the only other lineman to crack 5.0 was Southern Cal center Ryan Kalil at 4.96.

(509)Rat,
I passed a little  karma out, or as Camcat likes to call it (Holy Water) to all who have posted lately, even you young man. Yep passing it out like candy I was...... ;D

I'd give WC11 more if I could, but alas, only 1 every 24hrs.

So what does every one think about the Possibility  of Jerry Glanville and Mouse Davis coming to PSU? I can't imagine leaving the warmth of Hawaii, but he is interviewing today in Portland. I think he is what PSU needs, and will only help the program. Time will tell.

Remember this is the off season so don't be afraid to pipe in. I find it interesting myself.

It's been a mellow day in the neighborhood.  ;) ;) ;)

2007 the year of the WILDCATS!

I love D3 Football!!!

The article in the Spokane paper quotes a draft guru as saying that Allan should get drafted anywhere fromt he 5th to 7th round. Prior to the combine he was a low 6 to a high 7 at best.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

Nice article by Brian Meehan in the Oregonian about Lewis & Clark changing their philosophy and recognizing that athletics is a vital part of a liberal arts education.  Sounds like the  new AD has 'opened the door' with the Admissions department and they are interested in restoring some of their traditional competitiveness as in past years.  This is definitely a good thing for the NWC......now  all we need is for Pacific to step up to the plate and field a football team in 2007!

Nice article in the Oregonian yesterday on Lewis & Clark and their commitment to athletics and how it fits into College life. Sounds like they will be around for awhile, now lets get Pacific or someone else to follow the L&C lead.

I'm glad to see that the AD at LC has realized that it is completely possible to maintain academic standards while accepting athletes into your school who may not normally qualify (lets not pretend that Linfield, Whitworth, UPS, PLU, Willamette, etc. don't do this).  Keep in mind that my last statement means kids with 3.0's as opposed to the usual student getting accpeted to LC with a 3.8-4.0 coming out of high school.  For the last couple of years Whitworth had just as high GPA/SAT scores for incoming freshman as any other NWC school yet have won an all sports trophy and numerous conference championships.  Everyone else in the conference has figured out a way to do it and I guess i'm saying its about time LC has stopped using their "high academics" as an excuse to not being able to field athletic teams, in this case football.

I'm going to start a new campaign...

2010 Year of the Boxer
Sorry Linfield fans, I understand that every year is the year of the Wildcat but let's give Pacific some support so that we all can get another in-region game (and we all know how bad you Wildcats need another in-region D III game)

Congrats to Mr. Allen on putting a good showcase for himself and respresenting his school.

NWC posters,

I enjoyed hearing the rants and reviews about Mr. Allen on saturday. I am sure you guys are equally as proud of him as you guys were for Mr. Elliot and Mr. C. Allen from linfield when they were presuing a football career. I really hope that Micheal gets picked up by a team and shows everyone that any person from a d3 school can make it. I just hoped that he could have benched better than 19 reps of the 225. Usually t.e.'s are supposed to hit the 28's or 30's. Anywho, good luck to him

Of course we're pulling for him to do well. It reflects positively on the NWC and all of D3. The Catdome Nation wishes him the best.

Ditto on Pacific bringing back football. We've been hearing about it for years now, and always the response is that it would be too expensive. Maybe some of the new L&C philosophy will rub off on our Forest Grove buddies. That was always an easy road trip.

How 'bout that wildcat RB to be benching 26 reps at 335lbs? Rivals.com listed him as a Division I prospect.

very impressive :o

How did he do on Linfields new test for all incoming skill position players?  I heard you had to hold onto a football while a bunch of guys wearing black helmets try and take it from you for about 30 seconds.  But if he can really bench just over 500 lbs...thats about what 26 reps at 335 equals out too...he shouldn't have any problems in this one.

Ok, but seriously now, any other big recruits other than this Rb for Linfield?

ADvantage Catdome Interview Special!!!

Catdomealumni.com's blog "ADvantage Catdome" just posted up our first installment of the "Red and Purple Interview".  We'll talk to 'Cats of the past and present but also some select players who played against the 'Cats in some games famous in the Linfield community.

Breaking the ice for us is former Central Dutch Center, Reid Evans (1997-2000) who was the player that picked up the ball during what would be later know as the "Miracle in the Mud".  Reid was outstanding in recalling the events of that day in what should be a fun read for any DIII football fan.

Tux,
Make that "Holy Water", I only give out Holly water around Christmas. ;) Thank you for the +K.  I just returned the favor and have sprinkled karma on the last 3 pages of posters. We can all use a little "holiness" can we not?

Reid Evans is the select one of a chosen few who can refer to a certain moment as "____________ in the Mud." For him, it was.

QuoteI heard you had to hold onto a football while a bunch of guys wearing black helmets try and take it from you for about 30 seconds.

(509) Rat....very clever. We can take it. After all, we have no one to blame but ourselves. This is the year we start another run at home against the Pirates. Possibly not as long as the last one but that longest journey begins with a single step.
Congratulations on squeezing out both football and basketball this year. No one can ever take it from you. (Unless some infraction is found within your programs and the league votes against you. Not saying there is ANYTHING but it happened to LINFIELD in my lifetime.)
