Hey guys, went to the ncaa.org website trying to locate a bracket for the upcoming basketball tourney. Instead, I found not one, but TWO things much more interesting.

First, under the "Top Story", a picture of a couple of 'Cats with their claws stuck in a Crusader while bringing him down during the '04 title game:

Remember how cool this day was?

Second, an article discussing the DIII Football Committee's efforts to create a more equitable system in the playoffs for higher seeded teams (something which has been discussed quite a bit on the boards over the last few years). They would like to do away with the geographic-proximity principle come playoff time. Also mentioned, "The committee, which met January 30-February 2, wants to create a more equitable policy in which two teams that have earned the right to host because of their seed play at home rather than face another high seed on the road early in the championship." Thought it was an interesting article:

Division III Football Recommends Changes to Bracket Process

Thanks, Ralph. Hopefully this can be the first step in DIII someday avoiding the two Texas teams almost always facing each other in the 1st round, as well as other screwy early round matchups.

OxyBob, There's no need for you to be confused. Where did I state this had anything to do with Linfield's playoff games since 2000? I'm well aware of who (and where) the 'Cats have played their postseason games since that time. It does, however, have a lot to do with what some other DIII teams have had thrown their way, which still interests me.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Here is a picture and write up in German with some comments from Brett Elliot, "The strong arm of Rhine Fire", on the Rhein Fire website.
Here you go

Here is a rough translation of the German:

Duesseldorf/Tampa (March 3,2007) - One of the first new NFL players, Elliott  arrived in Tampa, FL  on Saturday evening. He was welcomed by Rick Lantz. The Rhine Fire Head coach to his new opportunity: "Elliott has a strong arm and is our man for the long deep passes." Elliott comes from the San Diego Chargers, where he prepared during the 2006 NFL season . In 2004 Elliott from Linfield College was considered one of the best college players in the USA, because his undefeated team won the division III championship and in the season threw 61 Touchdown passes - more than any college or NFL Quarterback in the history of US football, an achievement, which would like to confirm Elliott now with Rhine Fire. "I want to put to rest the prejudice that I played only against less talented opponents suggesting that I cannot be successful at this higher level."  "NFL Europe is close to to the American NFL." I want to show Duesseldorf that I can succeed also on this level." Elliott further: "I do not believe that I am surprised in Europe. I want to be as successful with Rhine Fire as possible. Beyond that I hope to travel. I would like to see much of Germany." Before Elliott with Rhine Fire lands on 5 April in Duesseldorf, hard work for the Quarterback and his team mates lie ahead.  On Monday (March ,4.) Rhine Fire Camp in Tampa opened it's gates opens and then continues with three weeks training with two practices per day and then 4 pre-season games before heading to Duesseldorf.

The Elliott saga continues.....

Tux,  You can't get away with  dropping that  bomb....."Some "good" things are coming according to  an inside source".......without further explanation....'fess up.....The only  thing I  can imagine is that  Glanville told his Division IAA players at PSU they  may  as well go down the  road to Linfield if they want to  play on a winning team because he  needs to recruit Division I players if he  is going to put 20,000 + in the stadium and schedule OSU and Oregon!

Great stuff as usual 11. I wish I could have seen Heberberger live. Looked like he was as slippery as a greased pig and had some wheels to go with it. And the lateral quickness, whoa. I also liked the block on the big run at about the 3:30 point in the video, wow!

WC64,

Just having some off season fun!! I have heard some good things, but as you know MUM's the word in here . Besides, It makes it more fun. Now don't get mad, but it could be a BIG BOMB, so keep dreaming as I do for another D III Championship!!!!

Haberberger, was the real deal, not many could pull off the moves he did. A nice young man as well as a great running back.

WC11, you just continue to amaze...the clips are classics. Thanks!!!

2007 THE YEAR OF THE WILDCATS!!!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Thanks, Tux, I was just teasing you.......I know you're far too wise to let those Bearkitties, Rats and Lutes, hanging around this site, show the 2008 Cat staffing plan secrets......Like you, I suspect  there may be themakings of another exceptional Wildcat team in the making  a few weeks from now when Spring workouts commence.

I saw Carl play....only once....at Whittier....career ending injury.

That must have been awful.
He's such a good kid and was a hell of a runner.

The whittier injury was made all the worse by the fact it came in the game following the great win at plu where haberberger had 230 (give or take) yards rushing.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

Hello from So. Cal.  Neither the Redlands or Whitworth 2007 schedules are up yet.  Does anyone know if they play again this year?  If they do, I would assume it is in the great northwest!  Thanks for the info if you have it.

Snoop -

According to the Whitworth media guide, the teams are opening against each other next year again, this time in Spokane.  It only showed next year's schedule, so I don't know anything beyond next year.

Nice video on Carl 11,
Major flashback on the first shot in Ratland.  Don Higgins and I were sitting somewhere near the top in seats 11 and 12, of course,(we did that for 5 years)  when The Cats broke that run for a score.  It was on the far side and we both looked at each other and said Who was that!!!  Someone from behind us yelled what we thought was Have A Burger !!!!!  So not knowing better, cause we didn't have a program we yelled our ass off all day for some kid named Have a Burger, I remember every one of the runs in that clip.  Carl was a stud, I know he went down to an ACL but in my book you can put an AA after his name any time.
