Linfield Video of the week: 2007 Defensive Preview

***This is our last Regular Video of the season.  Please check out our blog during the football season.***

D O.C.

Guys! Guys! The d3 contingent did not stumble onto their trip to McMinnville. More than likely they contacted Kelly Bird a working week before the announcement here. Keith has Northwest ties. Gordon Mann trail blazed. Every moment has been mapped for them to even think about making it, probably even factoring in airport delays. No way are they going to hoist a few in some back room with DomeHeads. What if (shudder) HSU hands it to us again like previously? The truth will have to be reported.
A ride to and from the airport might be in order (I got to do it for Bill Russell once).
Reporting the game from Ad's skybox might be interesting (assuming there will be a broadcast).  ::)
Having a modicum of gear presentable would be a nice touch.
Still, I share your excitement in that it will be a historic moment for both institutions (for all of us posters, of course). I would bet this significant news has sold a few more airline tickets from Abilene.

Those graphics keep getting better, WC11! Expect a couple of representatives of the Editors Guild Local 700 to show up on your doorstep with an offer to join their union...that you can't refuse.

I and a few other Cats would love to hear your take on why you predicted that the Cats will win the West Region.
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

Frankly, it was on a whim. I didn't think that anyone in the West (Whitewater, St. John's, Central, La Crosse) has an overwhelming amount of talent that sets them head and shoulders above any other team.

The wife has surprised me by decorating our guest bedroom, it is now Wildcat Country. I am also collecting stuff from all D3  schools in the country.
I now have a sweater from Gustdavis a banner from PLU and a Postcard as well as a magnate from Willamette.

A magnate from Willamette? Are you holding him for ransom? :) (Had to do it before copy editor KMack got it.)

By the way, five and a half hours in an airplane is NOT my cup of tea. You guys should be happy. :)

Shoot, a small price to pay for out of the NoVa sprawl to better d3 ball and nicer country. I'm guessing that cris could tell a few tales about long flights out of Ulan Bator ... ;) Perhap if more Linfield posters bought the preview you could quit your day job and make a weekend out of it ....

Linfield fans have supported Kickoff nicely over the years. Not as well as Mount Union or St. John's, but consistently in the Top 10.

As of this morning, Linfield fans had purchased 14 Kickoffs. The rest of the NWC has purchased 12.

Hi Pat,

Glad to hear you are coming to the Northwest.

Can you help me with the NWC predictions?  The numbers don't add up.  You have:

Linfield   6-0
Whitworth  5-1
PLU  5-1

That couldn't possibly happen when they all play each other.

Just curious.

No, indeed, you're right. The person who wrote the NWC capsules apparently didn't take actual reality into account when making predictions.

PLU should be 4-2, I think. In fact, I see that's what it is on the team capsule itself.

Orca Jr.

11, wow.  Great job on the new videos.  The defensive preview got me really fired up and I took a second look at my schedule to make sure I find a way to make all the home games at least.  I would have to think the only question mark on the defensive side of the ball is the D-Line, but it looks like some guys are going to be more than ready to step up.  I'm really fired up right now, time to rock and roll.
There's nothing like being a wildcat.  Some say they understand, but until you've lived it, you have no idea.

Thanks Orca and others about the postive feedback on the vids.

I feel pretty good at the defensive end position.  If Summers and Denney stay healthy they will have a very productive year and we have a good vet (Foglesong) mixed in with some young kids with "upside".

We'll see what happens at Defensive Tackle position.

(509)Rat

Speaking of Defensive tackles...Whitworth got a new one into camp this weekend.  He took the long road to get here, from ASU, to Grambling, to a few years off, to JuCo, to Whitworth.  He's 28 and somehow still has eligibility left (at least two years).  Good sized kid (Justin Rundle like for those of you familiar with Whitworth) from what I've heard.  Thats it from over here in Spokane, the defense seems ready to play and the offense...well, not so much.  They've got the talent just not the experience/chemistry.

Bubs1856

28 years old...I suppose we can say he is "experienced."  We had a guy like that once show up to camp at Linfield...anyone in my era remember "Fullback."  Good to see your optimism (509), but if your going to hang your hat on a guy that has 2 years left at 28, you may have some serious issues in stopping even a mediocre offense.

Ahh...Rich the "Fullback" (his license plates even said FULBAK...classic), he was right up there with Big Country, our resident tow truck driver who turned out as well...gotta love D3 Football.

HA!  I called him the "Foolback".  That guy still couldn't top Jeremiah "The Model" who would roll out to practice with his pager tucked in his pants.   Guy looked like Razor Ramon in the uni but was the definition of "Look like Tarzan...Play like Jane" and he was duller than a bag of hammers.

One of my favorites practice stories was that we were about 3 weeks into the season and Coach Langsdorf had it with the guy.  He looked at "The Model" and said "Jeremiah, can you tell me what you do in ANY play we run?  I mean ANY play we run?"  The lummox just responded back "Dunno coach."  I thought Ed was going to have a stroke right there.  FIVE STAR CLASSIC MOMENT!
