Trying to figure out how it "feels" that Linfield is the only team with a chance for a bid???  Don't know if that is because other schools aren't posting or because you really think that Linfield has the only chance for a bid...please explain

IMO...I think that Willamette, PLU, Whitworth, and Linfield still have a chance for one of the Pool B bids.  If just depends on the remaining games.  Willamette, PLU, and Whitworth all should have an easy week to work on some things while the 'Cats are going to be wrestling a bear in Ashland.

Not a whole lot to say when you are going into a week that just hurts your strength of schedule and you just hope everyone stays healthy.  What a defensive stat killer this game is for the starters who will be playing about a quarter and a half.  Hope we are travelling some freshman and sophomores to get them ready for the future, bc last time i checked we are graduating a few kids on the defensive side of the ball.  Setting the line at 56.5

I wonder if USC (+41) felt the same way before the Stanford game?  :)
Go Cats! Make it 62 in '17!

Had a feeling that someone would bring that up...Knowing the staff and kids that are playing at Whitworth, I still think that there is a little bitterness from 2005 (note the 70-3 trouncing last year), though I am sure you were joking, a little different circumstances in my opinion.

I don't know all the ins and outs of the Pool B and Pool C rules but here's my take, FWIW.

If Whitworth wins out that would certainly take Linfield out of the picture and how does Whitworth get a bid over Redlands.  Redlands loss to OXY may have cost Whitworth their opportunity.  I won't disagree that at the end of the year Whitworth MAY be the better team but will that be enough.  I believe Whitworth has improved and will continue to improve at key spots on offense.

If Linfield wins out their record and their reputation (deservadly (sp?) earned), will probably get them over the loss to Willamette.  Whitworth would have losses to Redlands and Linfield.  PLU losses to Whitworth and Linfield.

If PLU wins out that knocks out Linfield and Willamette, and how do we get in over Whitworth, who lost to Redlands.

If Willamette runs the table (where is Bahomeths Dad by the way?) they are sitting there with a loss to Gustavus.

Why are you bitter about 2005, and how does that justify running up the score?

Wondering if you know anything about the game last year, were you there?   When you can't tackle a running back (10 Rb's for 276 yards), hold on to the ball (6 turnovers, 2 for touchdowns in the first half), most of our passes were screens, starters didn't play longer than the first half, I hardly count it as running up the score.  Please check your references before you make accusations like that.

If you are going to blame anyone for the 70-3 score, blame LC for having a terrible team.  They can field a decent basketball team, why does their football team suck a**, don't pull the academic standards line either.

How many decent recruits does it take to field a basketball team versus a football team? It takes a lot longer to turn a football program around. Whitworth's rise into the upper level of the NWC took quite a while. It took several years just to get back to .500 under Tulley; even with strong support from the administration and favorable admissions standards. (Sorry if you don't want to hear it, but it is easier to get a player admitted into Whitworth than L&C.)

Speedy -

There's a few threads on Pool C and Pool B in the General Football area...as well as some playoff FAQs on the site.

If Whitworth wins out...they won't be judged 'against' Redlands for a spot. Nor would a 7-3 Willamette be judged head-to-head versus Gustavus. We (NWC collectively) are in some danger of hanging too many losses on each other to be considered. But if any of the four 'win out' from this point, they'll be in for sure (well, I guess not automatic, but you can count on it).

FWIW, as d-train said, it takes a while to build a football program. Having been on the sideline shooting the L & C - Menlo game, I heard a great deal. What I heard and saw leads me to believe that the Pios are headed in the right direction. They played hard right to the last snap. I didn't hear a negative comment from a single coach or player despite the score. The coaches were constatntly teaching and the players listening, trying and encouraging each other. There are more players than last year and they are scoring some points. The defense is undersized and right now overmatched. There were Northern CA high school kids there from who are thinking of going to L & C.

Pirate Pride

I truly dispise the way that the 2005 season was handled...Don't know if the monetary resources weren't there for recruiting...but LC is IN Portland I'm pretty sure...Our team has had a high number of kids from Spokane throughout the years...even with high admittance standards, that is a pretty large pool to pick from.  Maybe my own bitterness comes from 2005, but I still hope they get beat by 70

If Tully has been coaching for 13 years at Whitworth...they went 5-5 in '97, so if several means about 3 years...then I guess it does take awhile.

Yeah, but Tully didn't have to start with a team that was dismantled when the season was cancelled and most of the guys left.  Look at Lewis and Clarks team--they are very young and are in the 2nd year of a program.  It' s nice to know that you want them to get destroyed and demoralized.  That will really help the rebuilding process and the strength of the conference as a whole.  Sorry you're bitter than your season was shortened by one game in 2005.  I'm sure the guys from Lewis and Clark who lost half a season feel really sorry for you and I'm glad you want your team, which has played with class and at a high level for a few years now, to take it out on kids that a)  had nothing to do with the decision to cancel those games and b) were probably not even on the team when those games were cancelled.  Get over it man.   :'(
