Sorry to post and then not be around to participate in the discussion.  Just wasn't near a computer all day.  I may respond to some of the points made.

Wondering if you know anything about the game last year, were you there?   ...

Nope, been to only one college game in 22 years, certainly not going to waste a plane ticket on Whitworth-L&C and I doubt many scouts did either.

...

The only sketchy thing happened before the end of the half when joel hit allan for a 34 yd. td, that was to boost stats for the scouts I'd almost guarantee. ...

That would be running up the score.  IMO anything done for the sake of stats would be RUNNING UP THE SCORE.  And besides are the NFL scouts really that bad that another td against a team that had no chance to win is going to help?  I would hope not.  This is the same excuse people use for running up the score in high school, "it'll help my kid,  get a scholarship".

... I still ask...What are you supposed to do when a team can't tackle?  You definately don't take a knee in the 3rd quarter, I think that is even worse.  ...

Pride,

I'll agree with you there.  I believe that whomever is in the game, second, third, fourth string doesn't matter that they should play to the best of their ability and particularly the younger backups should run the plays they would normally run.  The disagreement would lie in when do the backups enter the game.  I fail to see the value in having your first team defense on the field in the second half of that particular game at all.  I couldn't find the stats you spoke of so what was the score at the half?

Many people only think of the offense when they think of running up the score but if the backups are in on defense and the other team is capable of moving the ball some, not giving it to them but them earning it, that will shorten the game, lengthen the field for the offense when they do get the ball back and likely keep the score down.

How is it that only Whitworth and UPS put up 70 on L&C.

I truly dispise the way that the 2005 season was handled...

I thought at the time canceling the season was horrible and in its own way unsportsmanlike and blaming it on the possibility of injuries a cop out.  But if that's what it took to save their program then it was a good move for them and a better move for the rest of us.  We need to get that auto bid for the conference.  We've already seen football disappear at Pacific and Whitman.  I honestly didn't think L&C would restart the program after they quit that year.

... sorry if that makes me a terrible human being.

Well, I don't know about that....... but since you sure know how to hold a grudge, I've calculated that at your current rate of posts (.086 per day) you'll reach 200 in 1884 days.  Be sure to come back on the board then (Dec 7th, 2012) and SMITE me for my comments this week. ;)

I do have a question on posting etiquette, would it be more proper if I had done one long reply, or the many short ones I did?  I mean I wouldn't want to annoy people like when some posters talk about who's buried on what campus.   ;D

Short ones are fine when we are all on the board, when it's just you and me I can read one long post. They do add up your post count though.

As for L&C, from what my friends from L & C say( they are different at Lewis & Clark) they have ( Finally)  committed big $$ to a Nation wide search for players. Only time will tell. It takes time to rebuild when you have fallen like they have. I hate to bring this up, but it wasn't to many years ago that they were on the brink of ending the streak. Thank God...........The Cat's "D" came through on that day up on "P Hill".

More later, the dog needs to go.

Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Quote509,

I was at the game last year and didn't remember Joel playing in the 2nd half...so I checked on line at last years drive summary, and it was jon luke all in the 3rd
Yup, you are right...you finally made a comment after doing some homework, I should have checked the stats before I made a point that came from my terrible memory  :D

QuoteOur 3rd and 4th string RB's started playing in the 2nd quarter
I thought you went to Whitworth...you should know that a 3 back rotation is common...weren't you at the PLU game where Milton Nelson (this years 3rd string tailback) scored a TD in the 1ST QUARTER?  We must have been takin it easy on the Lutes  :D  You know, lettin the young guns get some PT.

(509)Rat

QuoteCome on, Rat. If I'm a high school kid looking at colleges and I want to play football, do I want to go to a school that hasn't won a game in years, or do I want to go to a school with a winning tradition? It's not all about SAT scores. Recruiting is easier when you're successful.

coco,
Appearently you and Joevonte Mayes think nothing alike  ;D  Had HE CHOSEN to go to the better program, Linfield may have a running attack by now  :o    4.6 yards per rush and 16.1 ypc coming out of the backfield...GHC is drooling over the thought...

(509)Rat

But on a serious note...so many things go into a kid picking a college in which he wants to play football.  Maybe he doesn't want to be 1 out of 160...maybe he loves big cities...maybe he hates big cities...maybe he realizes he's not gonna play in the NFL and wants the best opportunity to get himself into medical school...maybe a sweet talking coach [insert UPS coach here] tells him that he will be part of the best recruiting class of the best team in the history of the world...and the kid believes it.  Coco, if your logic panned out LC, UPS, Menlo, etc. wouldn't be able to field teams because every year more and more kids would leave while less and less came in.  Granted it is easier to get a kid to come to your school when you are winning, small markets who haven't necessarily been winning can still do a good enough job at recruiting to pull in some talent...even Whittier is competitive.

I wonder if any of the coaches had some time to search for players when the team went to Chicago to play earlier this year.  :) That was probably a pretty cool trip for the players. The teams seemed to be fairly evenly matched, too.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Of course you are correct, Rat, and I agree with you completely. Kids choose colleges for many reasons. I was using that as an example to PP to refute his argument as to why L&C couldn't recruit kids. He stated that the other conference schools have the same academic standards (not including Menlo here), so they should attract the same number and  caliber of kids. Sure, some kids will want to go to a program where they might get a chance to play sooner. Many others, however, won't want to go to L&C that has a problem program with a history of losing.

As I said, my two cents, dos pesos, elua puka shells.

coco...assuming the 'academic standards' debate is similar, what is your opinion, if any, on the SCAIC inviting Chapman to join like the NWC did Menlo?
