The D & D Show....
I think Darrel and Dave do a pretty good job for a D3 broadcast team....However, if they would just stop sending Eve to get the D1 scores they would be doing even better.
Too much time is spent reading D1 scores, when it would be much more interesting to Cat supporters if there was more "color" reporting and D3 scores of other teams in the West who we might be facing in the playoffs or other Top 25 D3 scores.....they are all available on the internet!
LEAVE NO DOUBT

Freebird

It would seem odd to me if Whitworth and Linfield played again in the 1st round.  Isn't that what the regular season match up was for?

Foss

Thefreebird, I agree that SJU has a good shot at finishing 10-0 and getting the #2 seed, now that the Concordia game is out of the way (still got the game against undefeated St. Olaf). What will be interesting is if WW runs the table in the WIAC and also goes undefeated (which I think is less likely). But if they do, will the committee give them the #2 seed since no one has went undefeated in the WIAC for a while, or to SJU who has proven itself many times in the playoffs? They're ranked as close as they can be right now (#5 and #6 nationally, and throw #7 Oxy in there to make it even more interesting).

Read Pat's post on why they might match up two NWC teams again (although they spared us last season). There's a chance one might play the SCIAC champ instead, since they're west coast, too.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

#1:  I also agree that they do a good job but that sending Eve out is a waste of time.  First, if we cared that much about the D1 scores, we'd be (or in my case are) watching them on TV or checking them on the internet.  Seems like they should be able to get an internet connection up in the booth so they could at least be up to date!

#2: Intensity--  I have noticed the lack of intensity as well.  Clearly, the cats are winning easily but they need to keep up the intensity so that they've got it when they need it.  It also seems like the team is a little less polished this year.  I recall last year that they seemed to score at will on just about any opponent.  This year, it seems like they have to work more.  Maybe oponents are on to Elliot a little more after last year but it does seem that his numbers are not quite the astronomically crazy numbers that he put up last year.

Just my thoughts, looks like MHB vs. HS is the game of the week!  Mt Union and Ohio Northern could be a good one too (but of course I'll be tuned in to the CATS as they spank UPS---my wife suggested that UPS change their mascot to delivery men and their colors to Brown/Gold to pick up a little corporate sponsorship---might help with a better field/stadium).

Go Cats!

MonroviaCat

If Stats mean anything look for the cats to ROMP on the Loggers this week.

1.  Cats lead NWC in Pass Offense and UPS is last in NWC against the Pass.

2.  UPS leads NWC in Rushing but Cats lead NWC against the run.

3.  Cats are last in NWC against the pass (probably  because teams have to throw every down after the 1rst Quarter just to try to keep up) but UPS is last in the NWC in passing offense.

So, look for the Cats to bring it home easy, but not as high a score cause UPS will likely eat time on the clock.  Cats 35- Loggers 10.
Go Cats!

MC,

I think the 'Cats make it a point to score at least 40 this week.  As you pointed out, the Linfield D is better this year so it's going to be harder for UPS to grind out the clock.  I'm hoping for a lot of UPS 3 and outs.

I think the Cats will score over 40. It's hard not to score that many with Brett and co..... EVE check the scores...... Maybe its a code? Wake up call? ??? ;D  speaking only for myself, I enjoy the guys. I like that Dave can give some insite from an on-campus perspective. I have the game on at my seat in the Catdome.....Way to go CATS 50 in 05.... Mrs. Tuxguy wanted them to go for 2 on the last TD to get to 50 pts for the( 50 in 05). Would have been nice but the Cats have to much class to run up the score.   1 game at a time!!!!

For Linfield, they have something to prove this weekend vs. UPS.  The Loggers held Linfield to their lowest output last season and the Loggers touted that point all off-season.  I'm sure that the 'Cats will want to really drive the point home at homecoming.

Sure, UPS held Linfield to their lowest yardage output of the season and least amount of points during the regular season, but that was not what they touted all off-season. Being the #1 defense in the NWC, which was a goal of theirs before the season, was more important, plus the 2nd winning season in the last 20 years were more touted. Boy, the Loggers sure would like to see some of their defensive performances from last season this season. They've really struggled against the pass this year. It doesn't help when they have a new starting secondary nearly every week plus a banged up front four.

UPS does run a ball controlling offense, but remember last season that it was looking that the game was going into the half with the score 9-8, with the Loggers scoring with a minute left in the half to bring the momentum into the half. But a big kickoff return by Linfield to the 25 or 30 yard line of UPS let Linfield stretch the lead to 17-8 at the half. That was a back breaker for UPS.

UPS was utilizing a 3 man front and 5 DBs last year in their gameplan against Linfield. They were trying to force Linfield to run the ball. But the funny thing was that the only running play that worked for the Cats was the draw play and a broken play scramble by Elliott for the TD in the second half. They were unable to run their stretch/zone play against the 3 man front of UPS. But ultimately Linfield was able to make several big plays to pull away in the second half for the win.

I'm not expecting much for UPS against Linfield. They are in a league by themselves. But I doubt it will be as bad as UPS' last trip to Linfield in 2002. Nothing like watching Russell take the first play from scrimmage to the house for a TD. That was a humiliating loss for UPS. They've came a long way from that loss.

Congrats to the Cats on 50 Consecutive winning seasons! That is quite an accomplishment, rivaled by no one else at the collegiate level. WOW!

Last year's UPS defense was forgettable....sorry but UPS defensive stats were a direct by-product of the keep away offense that the Loggers ran last year.  Not that they were terrible but just not all of that.

!
I tend to agree with you #64. I don't mind hearing the Beavers and Ducks scores but beyond that Darrel can wait till halftime or after the game to give the scores of D1 games. I am not trashing the D&D team as I think they do as well if not better than most schools but I to would rather listen more to the Prof.

Indeed #11,  UPS did a good job of keeping the ball out of Elliot and crew's hands and their defense off the field.

Did anyone know the press box at OSU in namesd after Darrel Aune?

Tuxguy

A classic from the booth of the UO vs. UW game. all of the sudden the guy goes " What was that?" ??? The other guy says "we just had a drunken husky fan walk in & He didn't have a clue where he was."  :P " How in the heck did he get up here? ::)................They kicked him out! :D

UPS' defense may have an advantage with their offense leading the NWC in T.O.P., but they still have to make stops. Last year they made enough stops to be #1 in total defense and points allowed.

If last year's UPS defense was "forgettable", then what's this year's?

I enjoy the D & D Cats broadcast. I've listened to other d-III broadcasts on the net and Aune & Hansen do a comparable job. But like the others, a few less d-I and more d-III scores. The best part is listening "with" the other Cat fans in cyber space. I'll actually be computer side this Saturday.

I also have this feeling the Cats want to hang a least a 40 spot on the Loggers this year and the salty D will be coming up big!!!This is how UPS will be feeling
